Claiborne village was a late comer to Claiborne Township. Originally it was

platted on 10 3/4 acres with 39 lots on March 14, 1881. It was a thriving

little village boasting 15 families, train station, Dr. office, 2 General stores,

sawmill, shoe store, black smith shop, hotel, millinery shop, brick school and the

Methodist Protestant church.

Historical Marker I - Treaty Line Rd & Hoover Moffitt Rd , West Mansfield

( A bit of a drive to the north end of the county)

Raymond was originally called Newton when it was platted out on August 25, 1838 for David Paul. The Post Office was established in Newton about 1842. The Post Master was John Raymond. Newton was dropped and was named after John. Later, officially was called Raymond. This was the second village planned on the location! Originally, Kingsville was surveyed for Samuel King on September 26th, 1834 as found in the county records. The town never developed and was lost in history until the land was platted out as Newton 4 years later.
