Manure
No Manure
Animal ManureApplied to Growing Crops
Swine manure was applied as top dress nitrogen on wheat in late winter of 2006 & 2007 in replicated plots and yields compared to UREA.
Swine manure was applied as side dress nitrogen to corn in June of 2005 & 2006 in replicated plots and yields compared to 28% UAN.
Target rate 3,500 gal/ ac

Corn Plot Objectives
Determine if manure applied as side dress nitrogen during the growing season provides adequate nutrients to maintain yield
Determine if application equipment is available to accurately side dress corn with liquid manure.
Corn Treatments Using an Aeroway Toolbar
Treatment 1 – incorporation of liquid swine nursery manure
Treatment 2 – 99% liquid swine manure plus 1% 28% UAN (17 gallons of 28% UAN added to the 2400 gallon tank of swine nursery manure)
Treatment 3 – 28% UAN injection of liquid nitrogen
3,500 gal/ac swine manure

Summary
Swine manure has matched or exceeded wheat and corn yields compared to traditional inorganic fertilizers
Equipment is available to accurately apply manure to growing crops
More research is needed to find more efficient manure application methods and also seek to reduce potential compaction
