    1 General System Description

It is assumed that the 8000C/M fire alarm control panel and the associated system equipment have

been installed in accordance with the manufacturer instructions and guidance given in

    BS5839 Part 1.

The System 8000C/M is suitable for installation in commercial and industrial facilities. The modular

design of products allows the fire detection and alarm system to be expanded to meet future

customer needs. The application of intelligent fire detectors connect to the panels analog loop

provide an early and reliable warning of fire.

An analog loop can have up to 127 devices and each device can be assigned to up to 127 zones, with an overall loop cable length of up to one kilometre. An analog loop is a two-wire circuit that is

monitored at both ends. The 8000C/M fire alarm control panel automatically registers the wiring of

the loop and determines the logical addresses of the individual devices on the analog loop.

A range of devices can be connected to an analog loop circuit, such as fire detectors, technical

alarm modules (TAL) and transponders. The transponders are loop devices with programmable

inputs and outputs, for activating and monitoring external equipment such as display panels, alarm

devices, door closer unit and other equipment.

The network module allows up to 31 fire alarm control panels (8000C/M) to be connected in a

network. At any fire alarm control panel in the network it is possible to view indications of fire

events of the entire networked system and operate essential controls under emergency conditions

and operate other control functions, such as disablement of zone. Events such as fire, fault,

disablement and others events are transmitted to all fire alarm control panels in the network.

These Operating Instructions are intended to aid users of the 8000C/M fire alarm control panel and

should be read in conjunction with the instructions provided by your specialised installer. All the

documentation associated with the fire alarm system should be kept together near the fire alarm

control panel. If you have any questions, please consult your specialised installer.

The operation of the fire alarm control panel may only be carried out by authorised and trained

persons observing safety precautions and, if necessary, in collaboration with the other

    organisations (e.g. fire department).

    1.1 User Responsibility

It is recommended that the persons responsible for the fire alarm system should become familiar

with: how to operate the controls.

    and interpret the indications given.

DailyBS 5839:Part 1:1988, states that the system should be inspected daily to ensurethat a normal indication is given at the control and indicating equipment and:

that any previously indicated fault and disablement condition has received appropriateattention.

all the system events are entered into the Log Book for future reference.

that the use of the area(s) inspected has not changed since the system was designed.

and no unsafe practices that could lead to fire are being undertaken.

Weekly A different Fire detector or Manual Call Point of the system should be tested to ensure the

system is capable of operating under alarm condition.

The operation of the alarm sounders should be checked to also remind those occupying the

premises that there is a fire alarm system with a particular sound.

The test should be performed at a regular time to avoid confusion between a test and agenuine fire alarm.

    Quarterly

At quarterly intervals the system should be inspected and a trained maintenance engineershould carry out any work necessary.

Contact your servicing organisation for help with service and maintenance work.

    5.1.2 Sensor functions (loop)

This function allows sensing elements of the multi-sensor fire device on a loop to be switched off(disabled). For example it is possible to switch off (disable) all O sensing element(Optical = photoelectric sensor) or all I sensing element (I = ionisation smoke sensors) or in OHI

multi-sensor fire devices the OI sensing element installed on an analog loop.

Disabling sensing elements is only possible for OH and OHI multi-sensor fire devices. Thesesensing elements are only fitted on two or three different type of sensors.

If all the OI sensing elements are required to be switched off (disabled) on the loop then selectO Se so off For OHI multi-sensor detectors on a loop the OI sensing elements are switched off(disabled). The third element remains active, which is the heat sensor element. Disabling the heat-sensing element (H sensors) is not possible.

Fig. 44: Sensor functions related to analog loop (cdm359)

H detector Heat detector with a heat sensing element (thermal sensor)

I detector Ionisation smoke sensing element (Ionisation sensor)

OH detector Multi-sensor fire detectors with two sensing elements(OH= Optical and heat sensor)

OHI detector Multi-sensor fire detectors with three sensing elements(OHI= Optical-, heat- and ionisation sensors)

Switching off sensors is only possible for OH and OHI multi-sensor fire detectors. Ifmulti-sensor fire detectors and standard detectors (detectors with a single sensor) areinstalled together in an analog loop, only the sensor in multi-sensor detectors areswitched off.

Enter the number of the desired function (1 = O sensor off, 2 = OI sensor off, 3 = I sensor off, 4= all sensors on) or make the selection using the scroll keys and press Enter key.

The switching off (disabling) of sensors is only possible for OH and OHI multi-sensorfire detectors. Note only the selected sensing element is switched off (disabled).

    Switching on/off not permitted

The switching on/off of the detector sensing elements on an analog loop is indicated on the displayof the fire alarm control panel.

If sensors have already been switched off on an analog loop and there are no further sensors toswitch off, then the display will show a message "Switch on/Disablement not permitted". This will bethe case for example if I sensors have been switched off and there are no I sensors left to switchoff or a zone disablement has been detected.

In an analog loop, it is generally possible to execute a disconnection function, e.g. disabledetectors or call points, when no further lower-order disable functions have been carried out. That

is when individual detectors within a zone have been disabled, this zone cannot be additionallydisabled, as the disabled functions for this zone has been carried out. However, it is possible toswitch off other zones of this analog loop in which sensors/detectors have not been disabled.

In order to change the existing sensor switching status, all switched off (disabled) detector sensorsmust first be switched on, using the command `All sensors on. After all detector sensorshave beenswitched on, a further switching off (disablement) can be performed.

    5.1.3 Sensor functions (zone/detector)

This function allows individual devices or entire zones to be switched off on an analog loop.

By entering the zone and/or detector number(s) and by making the required `switch off/on theappropriate device(s) are switched.

If a zone number is entered (device number = 0) and the desired sensor switch-off is performed onall the multi-sensor detectors in this zone. All sensors must first be switched on in the zone beforedesired sensors can be switched off.(See also above Sensor function loop)

Fig. 45: Sensor function related to zones/detectors (cdm360)

Switching off sensors is only applicable for OH and OHI multi-sensor fire detectors. Ifmulti-sensor fire detectors and single function detectors are installed on an analogloop, then only the detectors having multi-sensors are switched off.

If a switch-off has already been performed, e.g. the sensors of a zone have beenswitched off, the zone or the entire analog loop cannot be subsequently switched off. Itis possible to switch off other zones of this analog loop in which detectors or sensorshave not been switched off.
