1. The Somnox Sleep Robot mobile application

Why do I need to use an app?You don’t need the application to turn on the Sleep Robot or stream music. The app is needed to adjust your Sleep Robot’s settings, which will be uploaded once you have paired your mobile device.

Breathing rateAdjust the breathing rate to your preference: you can either set it faster or slower in order to let it match with your breathing rate.

AudioSelect your favourite sleep-inducing music or sound.

DurationThe Sleep Robot does automatically turn off after the duration you have set. You can set different durations for the breathing movement and audio.

Download the appYour new sleep buddy, the Somnox Sleep Robot, can be personalized by use of the mobile application. Download the Somnox Sleep Robot mobile application in the App Store or Google Play Store to set up the Sleep Robot. Go to the webpages below to download the Somnox Sleep Robot App.

2. First time use

Create an accountOnce you have donwloaded the application, you can sign up and create an account. Sign up by e-mail or through your existing Facebook- or Google account.

Add your personal detailsYou will be asked to add your add personal details in order to tailor your Sleep Robot. By sharing details about your age, gender and health, we can improve the breathing settings over time.

PrivacyYour personal details will only be used to tailor your Sleep Robot and research and development purposes. Your data will be processed anonymously and will not be shared with third parties.

Pair your breathing rateThe Somnox Sleep Robot mobile application helps you to set a comfortable breathing rate to your sleep companion. In order to provide you with the best recommendations, you will be asked to ‘pair’ your breathing rate.

1. Sit back and take a moment to relax2. Breathe along with the animation3. Move the slider to a faster or slower rate until you have found a breathing rate that matches yours.4. Confirm the breathing rate to save. You can adjust the breathing rate at anytime.

3. Pairing the application with your Sleep Robot

Connect at first time usePair your sleep companion with your mobile device in order to manage your settings. You will be guided in this process when creating an account.

Allow the app to turn on Bluetooth, or enable Bluetooth on your mobile device manually.

Turn the Sleep Robot on by pressing the power button. Make sure the battery is sufficiently charged.

Keep your Sleep Robot close to your mobile device.

Is my Sleep Robot connected to my device?Once you have connected to your Sleep Robot, it will automatically connect to the same Sleep Robot when you open the app again.

Adjustments in settings will automatically be sent to your sleep companion.

Disconnect and/or re-connectTo connect to another Sleep Robot, follow these instructions:

1. Go to the connection menu and disconnect your Sleep Robot2. Tap on the connection icon to start searching for the Sleep Robot3. Select the Sleep Robot when it has been discovered by your mobile device

Your phone and Sleep Robot are connected when this sign appears in the top right corner.

If the connection has failed, this sign will appear in the home screen.

When clicking on the icon, you will be guided in setting up the connection

4. Settings overview

HomeFrom the home screen, one can easily navigate to the breathing- and audio settings. The overview shows current settings that have been applied to the Sleep Robot, as well as an indication of being paired and synced with the Sleep Robot (top right corner).

5. Breathing settings

Does the Sleep Robot adjust to my breathing rate?The Sleep Robot does not automatically adjust to your breathing rate yet. Within the app, you will find recommended settings, which are tailored for different reasons of use (whether you want to take a nap, get into deep sleep or calm down) and adjusted to your personal details.

Respiratory rate is affected by many factors, such as emotions, physical health and posture. Your mood affects your breathing rate as well (when you are stressed, your breath will probably be more shallow and faster), which makes your breathing rate different each day. Have a relaxing moment before you go to bed or use the Relax-mode to calm down.

Set breathing programmeIn the breathing settings, you can choose between three scenarios of use. For each programme, the breathing movement is tailored to you when you have paired your breathing rate (page XX).

Tailored for a nap of 15-30 minutes. It is recommended to plan your nap in the early afternoon.

The breathing rhythm will slow down to a sleep-inducing rhythm.

Made for a relaxing moment during the day or before going to bed.

More information about the three programmes can be read in the breathing settings’ information.

Set the durationThe Sleep Robot will automatically turn off after the duration that you have set. You can adjust the duration via the slider in the Breathing settings.

Why isn’t it possible to let it breathe the whole night?The battery of the Sleep Robot does not allow continuous use for hours. The maximum duration is 2 hours.

If you wake up during the night, you can simply turn the Sleep Robot on again by pressing the power button.

Does it turn off when I’m asleep?It’s not yet possible to measure when you are awake or asleep.

The breathing previewYou can get an impression of the (adjusted) breathing rhythm by following the movement of the breathing preview. Breathe along with the bubble to get an impression of the rate at start or end.

Adjust the speed to get an indication of differences between fast and slow breathing frequencies.

Adjust the breathing rateWithin the breathing settings menu, click on ‘customize this programme’.

Use the sliders to adjust the breathing rate. The first slider determines how fast the Sleep Robot will start breathing. The second slider determines to which rate the Sleep Robot will slow down to.

Please note that you cannot set the end rate faster than the rate it starts at , since that would break the working principle of the Sleep Robot on your body.

Reset the breathing rates to the recommended values for each breathing programme.

6. Audio settings - overview

Soothing sounds or relaxing musicThere are tons of music genres and everyone has a different preference. Since everyone’s preference is so different, we cannot provide standard audio settings along with the breathing settings. Therefore, we’ve integrated playlists with music and sounds that, based on research, are relaxing and soothing to your ears and mind. The music we provide, designed together with our partner Manglemoose, contains meditation music, ambient sounds and cognitive shuffling.

Audio on/offWhen disabling the audio, your Sleep Robot will not play any sound during the breathing programme.

Set the durationThe Sleep Robot will automatically turn off after the duration that you have set. You can adjust the duration via the slider in the Audio settings.

Why isn’t it possible to let it play music the whole night?The battery of the Sleep Robot does not allow continuous use for hours. The maximum duration is 2 hours.If you wake up during the night, you can simply turn on the Sleep Robot again.

Select your preferred playlist.Select the preferred playlist by the selection button.

To see details or adjust the playlist, click on the playlist itself.

Create or delete a playlistYou can add a playlist by selecting ‘new playlist’ in the playlist overview. Make a selection of tracks and add a title. You can customize the playlist by adding a playlist cover colour and icon.

Any playlist can be deleted via the in the top right corner of the playlist overview.

When selecting one of the playlists, you can rename the playlist, add or remove tracks or change the order of tracks.

Play a sampleClick on the play-button to play a sample of the track.

Important: • Your mobile device and Sleep Robot have to be

connected.• Your Sleep Robot must be turned on• Turn up the volume on your Sleep Robot

Select playlistClick this button to select this playlist and play the music on your Sleep Robot.

Add tracks to the playlistAdd tracks from your Sleep Robot’s audio library to the specific playlist.

Adding personal musicIt is not yet possible to stream or add music from your phone or computer to the Sleep Robot.

Edit a playlistClick on the edit-icon to edit your playlist.

• Edit the order of tracks: hold the drag-icon and drag the track to the desired position

• Delete tracks by selecting the trash bin • Add songs from your library
