The following window is displayed:

9. Enter your license keys, one key for the software and one for each purchased

dictionary, available on this DVD.

These license keys are printed on the license certificate provided with the program and dictionaries. Please note that there is one license certificate for the software and one certificate for each purchased dictionary. To now install all the dictionar-ies available on the DVD, you will have to enter the license key for each dictionary that is shown on each license certificate in the fields shown here.

NOTE! A license key consists of an alphabetic combination of 8 capital letters. This is a unique combination and is only valid in combination with the DVD Serial Num-ber. Each DVD has its own individual serial number. Check to make sure that the number stated by the DVD Serial Number is the same as the number on the li-cense certificate. If you own license certificates for other DVD’s, install these later on from each individual DVD.

Click Next when the correct license key has been entered.

10. Confirm the file path for the folder in which WordFinder is to be installed or browse to another folder. Click Browse if you wish to install the program in another folder. Continue by clicking Next.

11. Select a menu language for WordFinder. You can easily alter the language set-tings later by selecting Tools|Program settings|Language. Click Next to con-tinue once you have made your settings.

A confirmation of the dictionaries installed is provided when WordFinder starts for the first time.

Installing a network version of WordFinder To install WordFinder in a network, you either have to purchase the multi-user version for 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100 users or sign up for one of our subscription agree-ments.

Note! Important details prior to installation of a network version of WordFinder.

• Only persons with administration rights, i.e. full user rights with access to the network folder, in which WordFinder is installed, can carry out the installation correctly.

• If you are upgrading an older version of WordFinder, make sure that network users are not currently using the network version of the program.

• If you are installing a network version of WordFinder, you require full access to the WFL.DAT file, which is located in the network folder, where Word-Finder has been installed. If this is not the case, the integrated function for monitoring the number of simultaneous users will not operate as intended, leading to the display of warning messages. If this file is erased by mistake, it can be automatically recreated.

• You can move the WFL.DAT file to a specific folder, which has been assigned full user rights. You then have to enter another file path for this folder in the WFSYSTEM.INI. file, which is stored in the folder where WordFinder was in-stalled. When the file is open, modify the file path in the Multiuser box.

• In the WFSYSTEM.INI file, it is also possible to modify the file path to the user dictionary folder. Enter the correct file path in the Userdictpath field. Modify the file path to the folder, where company notes are saved, in the Companynote field.

Administrator installation of WordFinder Administrator installation must take place from a client computer and not from the server, to make sure the file paths are correct. Users share the WordFinder pro-gram that has been installed in the network. The first step is to carry out an ad-ministration installation of WordFinder for network use, followed by the installa-tion of the software on workstations on the network.

1. To carry out a secure installation, make sure that all Windows applications are closed.

Page 10: Manual for WordFinder 10 Professional, PC

2. Make sure that you are logged into the network and have opened the folder in which WordFinder is to be installed.

3. Insert the WordFinder DVD in the DVD-ROM drive. The installation process starts automatically. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

4. Read contents in the first installation dialog window and continue by clicking Next.

5. Click Yes in the License Agreement window to continue the installation. If you do not accept the license agreement, click No to cancel the installation.

6. Enter company details etc. in the Registration Card window. Click Next.

7. Enter the license keys for both the software and any purchased dictionaries that are included on this DVD.

These license keys are printed on the license certificate provided with the program and dictionaries. There is one license certificate for the software and one certificate for each individual dictionary.

NOTE! Each DVD has its own individual serial number. Check to make sure that the number stated by the DVD Serial Number is the same as the number on the li-cense certificate. If you own license certificates for other DVD’s, install these later on from each individual DVD.

8. Click Next when the correct license keys have been entered to initiate installa-tion of WordFinder.

9. Enter the file path for the folder in which WordFinder is installed or accept the folder shown.

10. Start WordFinder and confirm the file paths to your dictionaries by selecting Tools|Dictionary Management|Dictionary file paths. Take this opportunity to define suitable hotkey commands. Continue by closing the program.

11. The WORDFIND.INI file was created by the installation process. It has to be moved to the network folder in which WordFinder is installed. The file can be found in the WordFinder folder via the file path:

C:\Documents and Settings\%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\WordFinder Software\WordFinder.

12. Copy WORDFIND.INI from the WINDOWS folder on the workstation to the network folder in which WordFinder is installed.

When the installation is complete, the WordFinder program group is displayed un-der Program in the Start menu.

Client installation of WordFinder Prior to the installation of WordFinder on a workstation, you must make sure that the program is first installed on the network server. Make sure that you are logged into the network and connected to the client in which WordFinder is to be in-stalled.

NOTE! If WordFinder has been previously installed, there is an INI file in

C:\Documents and Settings\%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\WordFinder Software\WordFinder.

Erase the old WORDFIND.INI file before carrying out the installation on the cli-ent.

Note! It is important that all users have full access rights to the WFL.DAT file that is lo-cated in the network folder, where the WordFinder program files are installed. Please refer to the section Important details prior to installation of a network version of WordFinder above.

Install the program on all workstations by running the INSTALL.EXE from the network folder. The installation program creates program icons and installs the necessary workstation program files. All dictionaries are now configured for the workstation. Continue by following the instructions shown on the screen to com-plete the workstation installation procedure.

Uninstall WordFinder If you would like to uninstall WordFinder, please use the Add/Remove pro-grams function in the Control Panel. Select Automatic to activate the uninstall program, which removes those files that were installed when the WordFinder pro-gram was installed. The uninstall program also takes into consideration any pro-gram files that are in use by other applications.

Search in opposite language direction There is, at times, a requirement to carry out a search in a corresponding language in a bilingual dictionary in an attempt to define various intonations in a language.

1. Enter the word you wish to search for in the Search field and press Enter.

WordFinder searches through the headword index to display words, translations, synonyms and phrases in the entry window. You can easily translate any word in the hitlist found in the corresponding dictionary.

2. Place the cursor on the relevant word in the entry window and press the Con-tinue search in opposite language direction button in the toolbar to trans-late it. By right clicking on a word, you can also carry out a search for its trans-lation.

Spelling assistant For Swedish, English, Spanish, Danish and Norwegian, you can get help in spelling certain words. This feature is designed to help you find the correct word even if the entry is not spelled correctly.

In the spelling aid window, you will find suggestions for words that sound the same as the search word and that are in the dictionary. You open and close the spelling aid window by clicking on the triangle at the bottom corner of the article window.

When the spelling assistant window is open, it may look like this:

In the index window, the marking may have different hues depending on whether or not the search word matches it 100%. If you enter a word that is not in the dic-tionary, the next word in the dictionary is presented. This word is highlighted with a light purple colour to indicate that it is not a 100% match. If there is a 100% match, the colour is dark purple.

This is how it looks when a match is not 100%:

Search among Pinyin/Cn characters (Simplified Chi-nese characters) In WF10 you can work with dictionaries of Pinyin/Cn characters. When you have such a dictionary you can choose to display either Pinyin or Cn characters in the index window, or both at the same time.

When this type of dictionary is activated, the search index window is displayed where you can make this choice. This is how it may look:

You can close and open this window by clicking on the triangle.

How to use the search index window:

At Search index, select whether you wish to search among Pinyin or Cn charac-ters. Check boxes appear during Display. If you want both character forms dis-played in the index window, both boxes should be checked. If you only want one of them displayed, check its box and make sure the other box is not checked.

Some information about how the search function works Accents for the first and third tones are not available on Swedish or English key-boards. You cannot, for example, have two accents on the same letter.

Since it is difficult with a normal keyboard to enter pinyin words with "tone marks", the program checks via an internal table whether what has been entered can be Pinyin (ma, zhi, jing, yo, etc.) If so, the search is switched first to the Chi-nese-English direction and results in a wildcard search of, for example, ma* where all pinyin (ma regardless of "tone marks") hits are displayed in the index list. The program also automatically switches to pinyin-sorting.

You should always divide each pinyin with a space, for example mǎmǎhūhū is written ma ma hu hu.

If you instead search for map (which is not included in the internal pinyin table), it is interpreted as an English word and then the program automatically switches to the English-Chinese direction.

Of course, you can search directly for pinyin words with "tone marks" or Cn char-acters if you enter them in the search field via hotkeys or the scrapbook. In both cases, the program automatically switches to the Chinese direction and to the re-spective sorting (pinyin or Cn characters). This search is done in the usual way without the wildcard technique.

Limitations When you work with dictionaries containing Pinyin/Cn characters or Japanese characters, there are some limitations in Word Finder. The following features are not available when using dictionaries with Chinese or Japanese:

• User dictionaries

• Remote dictionaries

• Notes

• Glossary test

• Copy special

• Easy Reader.

Configure WordFinder Under Tools|Program settings|Configuration, you can modify WordFinder to suit your working environment. This section covers features relating to the con-figuration of the software, as well as menu language and password options. At the close of the chapter, you will find a description of how you can insert your own logo.

Configuration The Configuration dialog window contains 4 tabs offering different options.

Start up/Activation Activation (Hotkey) Here you can define which keyboard combination should be used to activate (dis-play) WordFinder. The default key combination (Hotkey) is Left Ctrl+Left Shift (displayed as CTRL+SHIFT above).

The keyboard combination must consist of either the Alt or Ctrl key followed by one or two user-defined keys. Examples of correct hotkeys are Alt+Shift+F2 and Ctrl+W, while Shift+F3 is incorrect.

To change a current activation key combination, place the cursor in the Hotkey field and then press the key combination you want.

NOTE! You cannot enter the different parts of your key combination separately e.g. Alt followed by F10. You must first press the Alt key, and without releasing it, then press the F10 key.

If you would like to activate WordFinder from the taskbar, select the Activate from taskbar option.

Start up When WordFinder is loading, you will see the following WordFinder splash screen:

Uncheck Show start screen if you do not want to display the WordFinder splash screen when the program starts.

You can decide to start the program in minimised mode, making it available in the background as an icon in the taskbar. If this is the case, check the Start minimised option. The program appears as the WordFinder icon in the taskbar.

You can activate WordFinder by either clicking on the WordFinder icon in the taskbar or by keying in the hotkey combination.

Functions This tab contains the following options:

Search/paste The first option here allows you to include a space after each pasted word or phrase. You can also set WordFinder to carry out searches after each key press (In-cremental search). It is also possible to deactivate the clipboard in Word 2000.

Text size in percent of standard size. Variable adjustment of text size in WordFinder.

Effects This tab contains the following:

© 2009 WordFinder Software Configure WordFinder 27

Page 29: Manual for WordFinder 10 Professional, PC

It is possible, in a pleasant fashion, to fade in and out both the WordFinder pro-gram window and the Writing Assistance dialog. Select Fade in and fade out to activate this option. Please note that this feature will reduce performance levels in older computers. In the case of Writing Assistance, it is also possible to set the de-lay time before the dialog window is displayed after you have stopped writing, as well as the deactivation delay time once you begin writing again.

In WordFinder you can choose the appearance of WordFinder’s program window and dialogue windows. You can choose to have the WordFinder appearance, which is the appearance you see in the screenshots in this manual. If you prefer to have the standard Windows appearance instead, you check the Windows standard ap-pearance box. Then WordFinder’s appearance also adjusts to the version of Win-dows that you have. For example, you can have the Vista appearance if you have that version of the operating system.

Use the Colours option to set background colours in the entry window. Searched words will be highlighted in this background colour. Select Reset colours to re-turn to default settings.

© 2009 WordFinder Software Configure WordFinder 28

Page 30: Manual for WordFinder 10 Professional, PC

Entry display The following options are available on this tab.

Compress index in dictionary groups Once you have created dictionary groups, you can choose to display the search re-sults in compressed programmed form or uncompressed form. Compressed form is standard. You activate or deactivate the feature by selecting Display head word only. In compressed form, a headword indexed in several dictionaries is displayed only once, instead of the exact number of times it appears in the various dictionar-ies. Refer to How to use WordFinder to learn how the software interacts with installed or user dictionaries.

Display cross-references If you carry out a search for an irregular verb in WordFinder, the corresponding entry contains a link or cross-reference to the infinitive form. Clicking on this link takes you to a description of the infinitive verb form. Check Automatic search for first cross-reference in entry, if you however would like to include this descrip-tion with an entry when a search is carried out.

The following screen shot shows this feature if this option is not checked:

This gives you access to any dictionaries installed in the network.

Dictionary groups This option allows you to group dictionaries that have the same linguistic base. The Dictionary groups function is an invaluable tool when you work with a large number of dictionaries. By merging those that belong to similar groups, you spend less time alternating between dictionaries, offering a better view of the dictionaries available.

NOTE! It is important that you select dictionaries that have the same basic language struc-ture when creating a group, i.e. the same alphabetical sorting for letters, if grouping is to work effectively.

How searching groups works is defined in How to use WordFinder.

Selecting Dictionary groups opens a dialog window with essential information. Check the Do not display this message again box if you do not want to display this window each time you create a group. Click OK to continue.

The dictionary group dialog window may look as follows:

Create a dictionary group Do as follows to create a dictionary group:

1. Click on Create new group.

2. Enter the name of the group in the Group box. If you would like to create a group with, for example, Swedish-English dictionaries, a suitable group name would be Swe-Eng Dictionary.

3. Click Apply.

Page 38: Manual for WordFinder 10 Professional, PC

4. Choose the dictionaries from the dictionary list to be included in the group by doubleclicking those you require.

or:

4. You can select more than one dictionary at a time by using the Shift and Ctrl keys as used normally in Windows. Click on the upper arrow button when you are finished with your selection.

The selected dictionaries are then transferred to the Dictionary in group field. If you transferred any dictionaries by mistake, they can easily be removed from the Dictionary in group list by either doubleclicking them or by selecting and then clicking on the lower arrow button located between the list fields.

NOTE! If the red warning light by Dictionary’s sorting index incorrect flashes, an un-suitable dictionary combination has been set up, so the dictionary group has to be revised.

5. Use the dictionary sequence arrows to the right of Dictionary sequence to al-ter the order of dictionaries in the group. Select the dictionary to be moved and click on the required arrow to move it up or down the list. The sequence here defines the order in which the dictionaries are searched.

6. Click Apply.

Your dictionary group is now available under the Dictionary|Groups menu. You can define hotkeys for any groups you have created. Refer to Shortcut commands above.

The How to use WordFinder section describes how to carry out a search using a dic-tionary group.

You can now create your own branch-related and/or corporate-specific dic-tionary using WordFinder. The software can easily be applied to the creation of other databases such as address books, telephone directories, product listings, etc. User dictionaries are listed under the Dictionary menu in submenus based on de-fined language combinations.

Create your own dictionary as follows:

1. Select Tools|Dictionary Management|User dictionaries.

A submenu contains the options available to manage your dictionaries.

New dictionary Do as follows to create a new user dictionary.

1. Select Tools|Dictionary Management|User dictionaries|New dictionary from the menu or press F4.

2. Specify the file path to your new dictionary, i.e. define the folder where the dic-tionary is stored. The program suggests the file path where any other dictionar-ies are stored. The file path can also be set by the network administrator.

3. Define the language direction by selecting languages from the menus under From and To.

4. Enter a file name in the File name field. The first four characters in the file name cannot be changed, as these are based on the defined language combina-tion,

template, but changes can be made to the template, to words you have added to the dictionary and any other dictionaries based on the template. Refer to Templates for more details.

12. Press OK to finish creating your new dictionary.

Import dictionaries It is possible to create a customised dictionary in WordFinder, e.g. a specific dic-tionary that includes in-house company terminology or branch-related terminology. Please also refer to Batch-add words on how to import an Excel file. A dictionary can be imported into WordFinder by implementing the following steps: Select Tools|Dictionary Management|User dictionaries|Import dictionary.

These dictionaries have the following format:

• Text in ANSI-format.

• Entries should not be more than a maximum of 40 characters in width.

• The headword must be written on a separate line and enclosed by a @. An empty line should be included before every headword with the exception of the first one.

• Words and phrases that can be pasted by WordFinder into your word proces-sor have to be enclosed by a > and a < character.

An example of what an ANSI file for import looks like: @alls@ >at all<; ingenting ~ >nothing whatever<, >nothing at all<; inget besvär ~ >no trouble whatever<, >no trouble at all<; inte ~ trött >not at all tired<, >not a bit tired< @allseende@ >all seeing<

If you have created a dictionary in a different program, export it from your pro-gram as an ANSI text file. Change its format in an editor or a conversion program so that the file looks like the one above and that the required control codes are used as outlined in Control codes for importing dictionaries into WordFinder below. Import your dictionary into WordFinder.

The following dialog is shown when importing a dictionary:

© 2009 WordFinder Software Dictionary management 40

Page 42: Manual for WordFinder 10 Professional, PC

1. Enter the name and file path of the file to be imported in the From import

file box. You can also define the file path and file by selecting the Open but-ton.

2. In the Import to dictionary field, state the dictionary into which you wish to import the data. If you would like to use one of your own dictionaries, select it from the user dictionary dropdown list. You can also create a new dictionary at this point by selecting the New dictionary option.

3. Start importing by clicking the Start button.

If the dictionary in question was empty prior to importing, it will contain imported data once the import procedure is complete. If the dictionary was not empty previ-ously, the imported data will be merged with the data already stored in the diction-ary.

You can choose from the following options:

Create a template Do as follows to create a new template:

1. Click on New template.

2. Enter a suitable name for your template. Note that when a template-based dic-tionary is exported, the proposed name for the export file is based on the name of the original template. It is therefore important to refrain from using unusual characters in the template name.

3. Click Save template.

The template is now visible in the Template list. Continue by defining a structure for the entry window. You can use any standard text format. Using the formatting toolbar, you can insert entry text fields or pasteable entry text fields, as well as ap-ply format to both text and fields.

WordFinder Easy Reader WordFinder Easy Reader is a separate plug-in that is supplied with WordFinder and is installed when you install the WordFinder software. WordFinder Easy Reader is a great tool when reading web-based content using Internet Explorer. The program translates words by carrying out searches in the dictionaries installed on your computer as you read through the content in your browser. Words are translated immediately when you mouseover text in the browser. The translation is displayed in a tracking window that follows the cursor, as well as in a dialog win-dow that is inserted in a corner of your Internet Explorer.

You can also use the Easy Reader program in other applications such as Microsoft Word. WordFinder Easy Reader, in this case, operates as a dictionary when you se-lect a word in your document and right-click on it. The corresponding translation is then displayed in the WordFinder Easy Reader dialog window.

WordFinder Easy Reader makes use of all the dictionaries installed locally on your computer or those that may accessible in a network. WordFinder Easy Reader can also index any dictionary groups defined in WordFinder.

Starting/activating WordFinder Easy Reader The WordFinder Easy Reader software is also installed when you install Word-Finder. Start WordFinder Easy Reader from the WordFinder Language Solution program group. In Windows XP, select

Search mode - translation

Automatic search Use the mouse cursor when reading text in Internet Explorer by dragging it over the words you read. WordFinder Easy Reader translates the mouseovered words immediately. The translation is displayed in the tracking window that tracks the cursor or in the program window that is inserted in one of the corners in your browser.

User search You can easily carry out a specific search for a translation of a word. To do so, click on the current translated word in the program window. A text box opens in which you can type the word you want to translate. Carry out the search by clicking Enter.

The search text box can also be activated by clicking on the magnifying glass in the toolbar.

Page 65: Manual for WordFinder 10 Professional, PC

Settings tab Window settings: Here you can control the settings that define the program win-dow interface. You can decide if you want to have the window always on top. If you want to use WordFinder Easy Reader with Word, select the correct checkbox.

The next option, Activate automatically (when minimised), modifies how WordFinder Easy reader is activated. By checking this option, WordFinder Easy Reader is loaded whenever the web browser is refreshed. WordFinder Easy Reader can also be started as a minimised icon in the taskbar.

You can also define track window format, either as a smaller compact window dis-playing only translations or as a larger window showing the entire entry. In the lat-ter case, the entire entry for the headword in question is displayed.

Internet Explorer: This option section lets you decide where the Easy Reader program window is inserted in Internet Explorer. To attach the program to Inter-net Explorer by selecting the Attach to Internet Explorer option, the Always on top option has to be unchecked. Both options cannot be selected at the same time. If you choose to attach Easy Reader with Internet Explorer in the settings menu, the program will start automatically every time the browser is started, and it will be inserted in the position as selected in settings.

You can also set the position of the tracking window to show translations either above or below the mouse cursor. If you uncheck the Allow window to track cursor option, translations will only be displayed in the program window, as this closes the tracking window.

Internet Explorer Mouseover: Sets the speed at which translations and corre-sponding search hits are displayed in the tracking window or program window.

Follow the cursor: Define the delay time for the tracking window linked to the cursor.

Reset times: This button allows you to reset times to the default program settings.

Colours and frames: This option box lets you define the schematic interface for WordFinder Easy Reader. You can modify the colour of headwords, the dictionary list and the background of various fields. You can also insert a line under the dic-tionary window or modify the colour scheme used in the tracking window. A frame can also be inserted around the tracking window.
