ECOGAS - INSTALLATION GUIDE

The installation guide for the ECOGAS device is a modular documentation whichdescribes in detail this system from the technical and commercial point of view and it hasbeen studied in order to be suitable for all technicians, even if not practised.

The installation guide is divided in the following paragraphs:- Introduction- Installation Guide- Installation guide for handly computer- System setting- Appendices

The above division, created because of the different subjects, has been made in order tooptimize the use of the Installation Guide so that each chapter is indipendent but, at the sametime, it is part of the same textbook.

We also introduced some definitions, defined in the appendix A: “Dictionary of namesand definitions” so that the reading of the guide will be easier and comprehensible.

1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 GENERAL CHARACTERISTCS

The ECO GAS device is an innovating system for the gas feeding in the automotive field(both LPG and CNG) for explosion engines. The “heart” of the system is constituted by amicroprocessor able to run numerous functions optimizing times, adaptability and efficacy ofevery intervention carried out by the electronic control unit.

During the recent homologation test of the ECO GAS, the results obtained perfectlyshown the high quality of the carburation control system. The experience achieved by “BRCGas Equipments” allowed to create a new product, complete of all the components necessaryfor a good operation of the gas installation. The adaptability and the high technological levelof the programming system make the ECO GAS suitable to numerous functions for theoptimizing of the car operation and for the diagnosis and control of the system directlycarried out by the technician.

Moreover it is a warranty of a high potentiality for future development of the system itself.In order to make easier the technician work, the product and its installation has been

uniformed to all the other BRC systems already commercialized.

1.2 GENERAL INSTALLATION PLAN

The ECO GAS device can be installed on every type of engines (originally feeded bothwith carburettor and electronic injection) converted to gas with a traditional “BRC”installation (both LPG and CNG).

The Electronic Control Unit, with microprocessor, controls the whole gas installationand, through the “STEP” actuator, provides for the regulation in feedback of the fuelquantity in order to obtain an optimized carburation under the point of view of pollution,consumptions and drivibility independently from external conditions (temperature, etc...)and fuel composition.

The handly computer has been projected to “talk” in real time with the electroniccontrol unit permitting a precise control of the installation operation and also an easy andefficacious setting of its parameters.

The picture n. 1 shows the whole installation plan and puts in evidence the followingcomponents:

- the ECO GAS electronic control unit- the change-over switch with level indication- the handly computer- the “STEP” actuator for the gas flow control

- the reducer- the mixer- the oxygen sensorThis plan has the aim of giving a general idea of the whole system.Something could change according to the type of car to convert so that it will be better to

refer to the specific connection plans.

1.3 DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPONENTS

In the picture n. 2 we put in evidence the main components of the system that are:- the electronic control unit- the change-over switch- the “STEP” actuator for the gas flow control- the harness

1.3.1 THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT AND ITS FUNCTIONS

The ECO GAS Ecu is the operating centre of the whole gas installation.Through the harness, studied in order to achieve easily the different parts of the car where

the gas components are installed, thanks to idoneous inlet and outlet stages, sized in order tonot modify and/or damage the normal car operation with petrol, it is able to control the ECOGAS during its operations:

- manual and automatic changeover function with software programmable conditions- gas/petrol changeover and safety car functions (the gas flow is immediately arrested in

case of accidental stop of the engine, with double safety).- selection by software of the petrol feeding type (carburettor or injection)- selection by software of the gas feeding type (LPG or CNG) with different mappings of

operation- gas flow control function and the possibility to correct in real time the mixture title

according to the information of the oxygen sensor and the analysis of the different carconditions while driving (i.e. engine load).

- possibility of changing the different parameters in order to personalize the caroperation according to the different driving conditions.

- selection by software of the different type of used oxygen sensor- oxygen sensor signal emulation function with the possibility of automatic acquisition

of the parameters directly during petrol operation.- function of injectors cutting adaptable to the different types of injection and with the

possibility of an easy connection to the external emulators.- fuel superimposition function and possibility to modify the time by software.- petrol ECU memories function able to directly cancel possible memorized operation

anomalies- “dialogue” function with the handly computer (code 06LB00001103)- level indication with four leds with reserve indication on the change-over switch (for

its operation the ECU has to be connected to one of the three available sensors - see §1.3.3.3)

- diagnosis of the system and of the correct car operation with warnings of the possibleerrors on the change-over switch: the error is memorized by the ECO GAS ECU in the section“Historical errors” which can be consulted with the handly computer.

- ECO GAS system check-up every time the dashboard is off.- selection by software of the setting method of the different parameters and signals

necessary for a correct operation of the installation (automatic, semiautomatic and manualsetting)

1.3.2 THE HARNESS

The ECO GAS kit also contains an idoneous harness to be connected to the ECU byusing an automotive harness with 35 pins.

All the secondary wired-harnesses and connectors directly go to the main one: the cablescolours are the same ones used for the Lambda Gas systems.

Moreover the conductors are divided in different sheaths in order to semplify theinstallation and improve the “look”.

1.3.3 THE CHANGE-OVER SWITCH

This is the interface between the EO GAS system and the user: through it the ECU givesall the necessary instructions to the driver.

At the moment the ECO GAS change-over switch follows the same line of all the otherBRC components (even if it will be possible to add other functions).

Together with the change-over switch an adhesive label is supplied in case the change-overswitch is installed in vertical position (you have only to remove the already sticked one).

1.3.3.1 CHANGEOVER FUNCTIONS FOR INJECTION CARS

The change-over switch (picture 3) has three different positions in order to allow:a) “forced petrol” position

With the change-over switch button turned to the left, the writing “BRC” becomes red, theinjectors are operating, the gas solenoid valves are closed and the system for the gas flowcontrol is disconnected.

The car regularly runs with petrol as the gas installation does not exist.

b) gas/petrol automatic positionWith the change-over switch button in the centre, the car begins to run with petrol then

automatically changes to gas. It is possible both the changeover during aceleration anddeceleration and the threshold for the changeover is adjustable by software (see Handly com-puter user’s guide). While the engine operates with petrol, the writing “BRC” becomes redand starts to blink, then becomes green when the engine operates with gas.

Obviously, during the gas operation, the injectors are disconnected, the externalinjectors emulator runs, the gas solenoid valves are open, the gas flow control actuator isactived together with other components, where installed. This is the recommended positionfor a gas feeded car.

c) “forced gas” positionWith the change-over switch button turned to the right, the writing “BRC” becomes green

and the engine only runs with gas. The system automatically changes to petrol in case the carstart is not successful or in case of accidental stopping. During the primer the writing “BRC”becomes green and starts to blink.

This position has to be considered as an emergency solution to be used only in case ofproblems with the petrol feeding system and paying attention the petrol tank is not empty,avoiding the pumps runs without petrol. It is recommended to have a petrol quantity of 1/3 -1/4 of the tank capacity and to renew it continuosly so that it can not alter.

1.3.3.2 CHANGEOVER FUNCTION FOR CARBURETTOR CARS

The change-over switch has three positions and allows to have four different functions:a) gas operation

With the change-over switch button turned to the right, the writing “BRC” becomes green,the gas solenoid valves are open while the petrol one is closed. When the primer is finished,the writing “BRC” becomes green and starts to blink waiting for the engine starting.

During the gas operation the “safety car” function is always guaranteed (automaticstopping of the gas solenoid valves in case of accidental stop of the engine or for unsuccessfulstarting. The malfunction is shown on the led bar - see § 1.3.3.4)

b) gas/petrol changeoverWith the button in the centre for the changeover from gas to petrol, both the gas and

petrol solenoid valves are open in order to allow the filling up of the carburettor tank.The writing “BRC” becomes orange.

c) petrol operationWith the button turned to the left, the writing “BRC” becomes red, the gas solenoid valves

are closed while the petrol one is open.d) petrol/gas changeover

With the button in the centre for the changeover from petrol to gas, all the solenoid valvesare closed ad the fuel delivery is stopped in order to empty the carburettor.

The writing “BRC” is off.

1.3.3.3 LEVEL GAUGE

Inside the change-over switch there is a level gauge constituted by a led bar with fourgreen leds. The reserve indication is shown by the first led blinking.

Its operation can be obtained by connecting the electronic control unit to one of the threeavailable sensors:

- code 18CE00010046 GNC pressure sensor- code 18CE00010047 LPG level sensor for BRC Multivalve- code 18CE00010048 LPG level sensor for MV 92The level gauge is already adjusted but the indication can be optimized or corrected by

using the software (see handly computer user's guide).

1.3.3.4 FAILURES AND ERRORS INDICATION

The ECO GAS system is able to carry out in real time a diagnosys of its operation.Possible errors or failures are memorized by the Ecu and shown on the change-over switchled bar when they occur: all the leds begin to switch on one by one going first from the left tothe right and viceversa.

It is also possible to “consult” the Ecu in the section “CURRENT AND HISTORICALERRORS” by using the handly computer.

1.3.3.5 ECO GAS SYSTEM CHECK-UP

Everytime the dashboard is switched off, the Ecu makes a check-up of all its parametersand of the “condition” of all the components of the ECO GAS system. This condition of“check-up” is shown by the change-over switch as follows: all the leds begin to switch on, twoleds together, going from the centre to the two ends and viceversa.

(P.S. In case of necessity, it is possible to stop the check-up for starting the car, providingthis does not happen during the “parameters set-up” or when a setting phase is finished).

1.3.4 THE HANDLY COMPUTER

The ECO GAS system is integrated by a programming handly computer (pict. 3.1) sothat it is possible to “talk” to the Ecu and to enter its memories and the central unit.

It is the instruments used by the technician to interact with the whole ECO GAS systemand, with this, he is able to “personalize” the gas installation according to the carcharacterists in the different driving conditions.

Obviously the programming system has been structured in order to show to not skilledtechnicians all the operations to do during installation, adjustment and diagnosis of thesystem.

It is provided with a liquid crystal backlighted display which permits to show all theinformation of the choisen option through the qualification of one of the six available buttons.

1.3.5 GAS FLOW CONTROL ACTUATOR

The control of the fuel quantity sent to the engine is carried out by the “STEP” actuator: itis a step motor normally used in the automotive field to which we add a cilindric shutterwhose stroke creates a variation of the passage section of the gas in the duct.

The adjustment system is checked in real time by the Ecu which verifies the work doneand values both the oxygen sensor answer and the car operation conditions following analready set mapping (it is also possible to manage it by software): reset position with coldoxygen sensor and cut-off, idling, speed, acceleration and deceleration, engine load.

The rapidity of decision of the digital system and its flexibility guarantee an easy andefficacious setting for the constant holding of the correct stoichiometric ratio on every kind ofcar and engine.

The actuator has ben studied for an optimized operation both with CNG and LPG.

1.3.6 REDUCER

The ECO GAS system is suitable for LPG and CNG. Anyway the LPG or CNG reducerhas to be “BRC” ones, according to the current norms which do not allow different pairingsfrom the ones used during the homologation tests.

1.3.7 MIXER

Also for the mixer is the same: it is possible to install only BRC mixers.P.S. The use of the ECO GAS, through the information given to the handly computer,

allows a skilled technician to evaluate possible malfunctions of the feeding mechanical systemand to find out the best position and setting according to the type of car.

1.4 THE ADVANTAGES OF THE ECO GAS SYSTEM

We have already stated that this system with microprocessor and the method for theprogramming are at a very high level. Hereunder we would like to underline some importantcharacteristics:

1) ECO GAS is a system studied and projected by BRC technical staff to obtain a very easyuse both for the technician and the driver.

2) The diagnosis system always checks the correct operation of the whole system.3) The self acquisition system make the setting of the Ecu easier removing the possibility

for the technician to make mistakes (we assure you that the self acquisition will be improvedin the future).

4) The electronic control system is programmed in such a way to be able to adapt itself tothe different driving conditions, improving performance and consumption.

5) The Ecu in and out stages are studied in order to avoid to damage the petrol originalcar system maintaining unchanged the diagnosis and control systems during the driving.

Please follow carefully all the installation plans supplied by BRC Technical Assistance,checking all the setting and connections.

6) The flexibility of the program both of the handly computer and of the Ecu permits tothe skilled technician to personalize the system operation according to every kind ofrequirements.

7) The microprocessor system with programmable memories permits to have greatpossibilities of future developments. BRC technicians are already studying them and areready to evaluate all suggestions coming from our installers in the context of a fullcooperationship which distinguishes BRC commercial policy and that is extremely useful forthe improvement of the components.

P.S.: the ECO GAS system is interchangeable with the I.B. Lambda Gas sytem (seeAppendix "B").

2. INSTALLATION GUIDE

2.1 Preliminar Operations

Before installing the ECO GAS components, as you have to do before converting a car, it isimportant to verify the car petrol operation.

Particularly it is better to verify with care the ignition electric system, the air filter, thecatalytic silencer; check with a multimeter or with BRC devices (Jolly, Diagnostic Box, Polar)the correct operation of the different signals: positive after turning the key, enginerevolutions, oxygen sensor, memories feeding of the petrol Ecu, injectors positive. Verify alsoif the mass potential of the different signals is constant and corresponds to the one of thepoint where you want to connect the mass of the ECO GAS Ecu: the acceptable change couldbe of some 10 mV.

Another important thing is to attentively follow the instructions supplied by BRC and theinstallation plans after having checked the type of car to be converted, the year ofmanufacture, the engine type, the type of injection and ignition and obviously the possibilityof installing a gas system.

These are very simple actions which requires few minutes but will avoid possible futureproblems and dispute with consequent loss of time.

P.S. Do not fix the conductors near the high tension cables of the ignition system.

2.2 Electronic Control Unit Installation

The ECO GAS Ecu has a new cover made of aluminium and plastic material parts, verystrong and with a great tightness, suitable to be directly installed in the engine compartment.

For a correct installation, please follow carefully these instructions:- avoid to place the Ecu near to the exhaust manifold: the radiative heat caused by this

latter might damage the Ecu even if relatively far. It is necessary to put a wall between theexhaust manifold and the Ecu in order to avoid the radiative heat.

- anyway it is necessary to place the Ecu in the engine space but protected by water.Particularly it is necessary to fix it in order to have the sheaths towards the low avoiding thehumidity goes inside the connector, pouring on the sheaths (see picture 4)

The solution of fixing the Ecu inside the car, when possble, is always allowed; in this caseit is necessary to avoid not ventilated places, far from felt, moquettes, etc...

To fix the Ecu, use the idoneous holes and avoid other systems which could deform thebox. Please verify it does not vibrate.

2.3 Electronic Control Unit Connection

The ECO GAS Ecu has to be connected by using the harness supplied by themanufacturer.

All the connections has to be made with well done and insulated soft soldering. Do notwind the cables or use an unreliable connecting terminal in anycase.

The following instructions are general and necessary for a good comprehension of thesystem. For the application on single cars, please refer to specific connection plans.

At one end the harness has a main connector with 35 ways to which all the secundaryconnectors and the different conductors come. The same colours used in the LAMBDA GASI.B. system have been maintained. Moreover the conductors are divided in sheaths in order tomske the installation easier as possible.

(•) P.S. In the following tables we defined the signals coming to the Ecu with "in" and theones coming from the Ecu with "out".

2.3.2 3 WAYS CONNECTOR FOR THE GAS LEVEL TRANSDUCER/PRESSURE SENSOR

It is a white 3 ways connector to which one of the three level transducer is connected (see §1.3.3.3) (Pict. 7).

2.3.3 10 WAYS CONNECTOR FOR CHANGE-OVER SWITCH

It links the Ecu to the change-over switch placed inside the car. To make easier thepassage in the hole, it is recommended to curve the connector at 90° in order to make itparallel to the cables (pict. 8).

2.3.4 5 WAYS DIN CONNECTOR FOR HANDLY COMPUTER

It links the Ecu to the programming handly computer during the setting (see chapter 3)(pict. 9).

When the setting is finished, place the connector towards the low to avoid water in thecontacts; pay attention it does not hamper the operation of possible rolling devices placednear it (eventually it is better to bind it to the other sheaths with a clamp).

2.3.5 6 WAYS MALE + FEMALE CONNECTOR

This connector has an emergency function in case of bad working of the gas installation.On the male there are three idoneous jumpers to be used to reset eventually cut conductorsas indicated in the specific plans:

- oxygen sensor signals (yellow+light blue),- Ecu memories (white+white/orange),- injectors (orange+violet).In this way the original petrol operation of the car is reset.Once this connector is inserted, the car regularly runs with petrol even if the ECO GAS has

been taken away. This device can be particularly useful in order to find possible malfunctionsof the original petrol system, too as it resets everything as if the gas installation is not present.

The corrct use consists in inserting the connector and, according to the case, turn chechange-over switch in the "forced petrol" position or disconnect the main 35 ways connectorfrom the Ecu.

P.S.: an injectors emulator or a disconnector outside the ECO GAS Ecu, if out of order, cannot be by-passed with this system but has to be desassembled and checked.

During the normal operation, the male connector has to be preserved by the car owner andthis latter has to know perfectly the use of this connector, too.

Regarding the female connector, all the recommendations listed in § 2.3.4 are valid.

The connection of the BROWN cable absorbs a very little quantity of current so that anypositive after turning the key can be used. The most important thing is to verify that it is nota point of the electrical installation subject to great loss of tension. For example, in some carsit is not possible to use the ignition coil positive or the injectors one because they are precededby resistances which can low the potential of some volt.

The GREY cable has to be connected to an impulsive signal with a frequency proportionalto the engine rpm. It could be:

- a square wave signal found on the injection or ignition Ecus, if only with a sufficientamplitude. It might be the cable which goes to the engine speed indicator or the connectioncable between the above Ecus and the ignition power module,

- a signal coming from the "negative of the ignition coil"When it is possible, we recommend you to prefer the square wave signal. We advice you

against winding it in coils like an antenna on the high tension cable. In case there are notother solutions (quite impossible), we suggest you to use the plastic reel supplied with theBRAVO Ecu code 06LB00001016 keeping in mind that a correct changeover might not bealways guaranteed.

The ECO GAS Ecu permits to directly stop the operation of the injectors through a relaywith a switch and to deviate the current to the external emulator code 06LB00001054.

This solution is suitable for single-point systems (monoinjection) (pict. 14A) or multipointfull group (more injectors controlled by just one cable) (pict. 14B).

In these cases, cut the cable which connects the monoinjectors (or the injectors) to thepetrol injection Ecu. We obtain two ends: the one towards the injector has to be connected tothe ORANGE cable and the end towards the injection Ecu has to be connected to theVIOLET one.

When it is not necessary to emulate the charge of the injectors (the lights are off and thereare not malfunctions), the VIOLET and ORANGE cable will be used also for sequencialmultipoint system (that is more injectors separately controlled), by interrupting the only posi-tive cable which feeds the injectors (pict. 15A and 15B).

P..S.: Take care to verify the feeding of other devices (such as the idling adjusting screw,...) will not be stopped.

In this case the "4 channels disconnector with harness" code 06LB00001072 or withoutharness code 06LB00001075 might be used, or the "right" and "left" models of the harness(code 06LB50010015 and 06LB50010016), too. For the correct use of these devices, refer tothe instructions supplied with them. For the sequencial multipoint systems which require theemulation of the injectors, use only the BRC "2" - "3" or "4" channels emulators withharness.

In any case, refer to the detailed connection plan of the single car.

2.7 UNION CONNECTION FOR PRESSURE SENSOR

The ECO GAS Ecu has an internal pressure sensor which has the aim of measuring thevacuum inside the induction manifold.

3. HANDLY COMPUTER INSTALLATION GUIDE

3.1 GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

The handly programming computer is the necessary device for the installation and settingof the equipment and allows the technician to "talk" with the ECO GAS Ecu.

It has to be connected to the ISO interface of the control Ecu, through the stereo 5 waysDIN connector and it is equipped with an alphanumeric backlighted display to make easierthe night reading.

The handly computer allows:- the display in real time of the required data (engine revolutions, oxygen sensor, induction

manifold vacuum, step motor position), and the driving conditions (cut-off, pumping)- the possibility of verifying during the various phases that all the already done

connections and the behaviour of the required data are correct.- the "drived" management of the Ecu and gas installation setting- the complete control of the good operation of the system both through the direct

operation test of some components and through the interpretation of the shown data that askilled technician is able to do.

For the correct installation of the handly computer refer to § 2.3.4.

P.S.: BRC handly computer is perfectly compatible with the previous ECO GAS 2000 Ecusand all future programs will be suitable for the "old" ones.

For the technicians which have an "old" version of the handly computer, a suitableconvertion kit is already available in order to adapy it to the ECO GAS made by BRC.

4. SETTING OF THE SYSTEM

This paragraph describes the different pages displayed by the handly computer, theirmeaning, the description of the various options in each page, the results caused by the choicedone, and the suggested options for the best engine and ECO GAS system operation.

The setting procedure is a sequence of operations which has to be done following theindications of the handly computer, at least for the first time (the program foresees theimpossibility of operation outside the only correct and planned sequence). Anyway, accordingto the technician necessity and his knowledge of the system, it is possible to execute thephases again with a different sequence, even because the system signals every wrongoperation and does not accept data that are in contrast with the good operation and efficacyof the control.

The ECO GAS system allows the selection of 3 different settings:

AUTOMATIC: The system automatically acquires the different parameters, checking if theacquirements are really made during the conditions required for the setting. For example, itchecks that an acceleration is done in the correct way; if it is not correct, the acquirement isnot accepted and the operation has to be repeated.

SEMIAUTOMATIC: The system automatically acquires the different parameters but itdoes not check if the the correct conditions occur during the setting: the technician has toconfirm all the operations by pushing the key "Enter" on the handly computer.

MANUAL: It allows to enter directly the values. The ECO GAS system does not carry outany control on these data.

We suggest this option only to skilled technician or when you want to directly modify thevalue of the obtained data, after having completed at least one time the system setting.

Each of the above setting is divided in:- parameters setting;- pressure sensor setting;- oxygen sensor emulator setting (eventual);- oxygen sensor setting;- step motor reset position setting;

PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS:Before begining the setting phase, we suggest to start the car using petrol and to check on

the handly computer display if:- the revolution numbers correspond to the real value,- the pressure changes (it decreases during the acceleration and increases during

deceleration),- the oxygen sensor signal moves from nearly 0 to more than 50: if you obtain an oxygen

sensor signal that is constant, it means the connection is not correct or that the oxygen sensoris damaged or short-circuited.

The system setting has to be carried out after having kept the engine on with petrol forsome minutes until the cooling ventilator operates at least once.

ATTENTION:Each time you insert the key and turn it, the handly computer start again the procedure. If

the engine stops during the setting, the handly computer displays the following page:

in this case it is necessary to:- turn off the dashboard and wait until the change-over switch is off,- insert the key again and switch on the dashboard only, without starting the engine,- enter the setting procedure and start from the point where you stopped before.

4.2 SEMIATOMATIC SETTING

The system autonomously acquires the different parameters but it does not recognize thedriving conditions required during the setting: the technician will have to confirm all theoperations with the key Enter on the handly computer.

This setting is suggested for technicians that already has a knowledge of the ECO GASsystem in order to make the setting shorter; moreover this procedure is necessary for all thecars where the engine speed is controlled by the original Ecu (i.e. cars where the enginereturns to idling very slowly).

Many times the pages and the operations to be effected during the semiautomatic settingare the same of the automatic one: therefore we suggest to refer the paragraphs of theautomatic setting (4.1) for more detailed informations for the common pages.

4.6 SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS

Choosing the "SI" option in the "DIAGNOSI SISTEMA" page described in the introductionof the chapter 4, the errors will be displayed.

These latter are shown on the change-over switch led bar when they occur: all the ledsbegin to switch on one by one going first from the left to the right and viceversa. The errorsare divided in:

- CURRENT, system malfunctions get during the reading; they are canceled when theerror cause is taken away.

- HISTORICAL, system malfunctions get from the installation of the ECO GAS Ecu. Theseerrors are memorised and it is possible to erase them after the reading.

Appendix "A"Dictionary of names and definitions

In this appendix we list some names and definitions which constantly appears during theECO GAS system use.

For the values which are a variable of the system setting and can be directly input by thetechnician with the handly computer, please refer to the manual setting paragraph.

CUT-OFF - Engine condition characterized by a great vacuum value in the inductionmanifold and by a rpm number above the set threshold.Particularly it occurs for a vacuum value between the CUT-OFF INSERTION andDISCONNECTION (§4.3.2).This condition is pointed out in the general system status page displaying the letter"C".

CUT-OFF DISCONNECTION (COM) - Vacuum value inside the induction manifold underwhich the system operates the CUT-OFF disconnection (§4.3.2).

PUMPING DISCONNECTION (POM) - Vacuum value inside the induction manifold abovewhich there is a new pumping and you leave the full load conditions (§4.3.2).

CUT-OFF INSERTION (COH) - Vacuum value inside the induction manifold above whichthe system operates the CUT-OFF insertion (§4.3.2).

PUMPING INSERTION (POH) - Vacuum value inside the induction manifold during whichthe pumping occurs and the system enters the full load conditions (§4.3.2).

LAM MAGRO - Variable value which indicates the oxygen sensor convertion value underwhich the system recognizes the lean mixture during the normal driving conditions (§4.3.4).

LAM RICCO - Variable value which indicates the oxygen sensor convertion value abovewhich the system recognizes the rich mixture during the normal driving conditions (§4.3.4).

LAMBDA MAGRO - Variable parameter which indicates the oxygen sensor convertion valueunder which the system recognizes the lean mixture during the full load conditions (§4.1.1).

PIENO CARICO (Full Load) - Engine condition characterized by a low vacuum value in theinduction manifold and by a rpm number above the set threshold. Particularly it occurs fromthe moment when (accelerating) the vacuum value decreases under the PUMPINGINSERTION threshold and until the vacuum value is again above the PUMPINGDISCONNECTION threshold (decelerating)

POMPATA (PUMPING) - step motor opening (in open loop) and steps numbers set duringthe setting (§4.1.1). This function is effected while accelerating when the vacuum inside theinduction manifold achieves the PUMPING INSERTION threshold. To restore a newpumping, it is necessary that this vacuum increases above the PUMPING DISCONNECTIONthreshold.

STEP MOTOR RESET POSITION - The reset position is the reference position of the stepmotor with cold oxygen sensor to which you return in certain system operating conditions(outside the Lambda control). It is important this value is near to the step motor positionduring the normal driving conditions (§4.3.5).

RICHNESS (RICC%) - With the word "richness" we define the time percentage duringwhich the oxygen sensor signal is rich (above a certain threshold for oxygen sensor with notinverted signal). Through the entry to the variable RICC% it is possible to imput theRICHNESS percentage of the emulated oxygen sensor signal (§4.3.3).

SYSTEM SETUP - Restore of the initial values (set by the manufacturer) of all theparameters and variable values of the system. It involves the loss of the values set until thatmoment.

Appendix "B"Interchangeability with the Lambda Gas I.B. system

The LAMBDA GAS system is born and has been entirely developped by BRC until its lastand definitive version called LAMBDA GAS I.B..

The ECO GAS system, with microprocessor, represents the completion of the lambdacontrol systems range BRC is able to offer to his technicians, range which is unique of itskind.

As they pratically "grow up all together", the two systems have various analogies bothfrom the functional and structural point of view. Many parts of these projects have beenstudied in a parallel way in such a way to create a synergy between this two systems in orderto contain the production costs and to invest more for the quality of the components.

There are also various advantages for the installation:- reduction for the spare parts stock;- continuity of the installation method; it allows to transfer the acquired experience from a

system to another;- system interchangeability.The following table lists the difference for the installation of the two systems:

Appendix "C"Cars with carburettor engines

The ECO GAS Ecu is prearranged for the installation on carburettor cars, too: in this caseit is necessary to select via software, with the handly computer, the different options in theparameters setting.

Obviously it is necessary the car has an oxygen sensor installed.All the potentiality of the system with microprocessor are valid: lambda control functions,

diagnosis and setting, check-up, level indication, changeover and safety car.

INSTALLATION

The connection plans shown in the chapter 2 for the sheath A and B are still valid. Thereare variations for the connections which refer to injection cars own functions and notnecessary. In particular:

The difference immediately verifiable is the two unions for the pressure sensor connectionon the electronic control unit: in fact it is necessary to elaborate a differential pressure signalin order to quantify the turbine effect.

Selecting "TURBO" during parameters setting the Ecu will automatically refer to adifferent mapping for the carburation control, expressly studied to allow an high driving andvery good performance for this type of car.

INSTALLATION

For the reducer installation, please refer to the usual turbo installations, withcompensation on the 2nd stage diaphragm.
