This cross section illustrates the stratal relationships between the two channel system; Waseca sand fluvial bar ssts and McLaren mud rich tidal channels. It is believed the off channel Waseca floodplain/overbank deposits are contemporaneous with the Waseca point bars. The McLaren tidal channel appears to be a young channel system, deposited in an overall mud rich transgressive setting

The McLaren Tidal Channel- the Key Stratigraphic Trap Component

Hydrocarbon contacts in the two pools indicate distinct O/W contacts with a 10m difference. This is controlled by mud filled McLaren cross cutting, mud filled channels. This is a common phenomenon in McLaren analogue producing pools.

The Waseca channel is also an important factor in trap formation. The thick channel sequence forms the ‘structural foundation’ that creates differential compaction in non-channel areas
