Due to state revenue limit formula and decreased state funding for education, the MPSD loses $1,000,000 in revenue annually.

The 2014-15 budget had a $950,000 deficit.

MPSD must remain current programs and services and continually adapt to the needs of all students and our community by offering a wide range of courses, programs and services.

MPSD is labeled “low-spending” for the past 20+ years, MPSD is capped at a funding rate significantly less than 80% of the state’s other districts.

MPSD only used $535,686 of the $1,000,000 in the 2015-16 budget. Why? MPSD promised not to increase the tax rate by more than $.71 and based on the budget, the District was able to meet the educational needs by levying only $.54, thus a tax savings of $464,314. The unused referendum amount will still be available in 2016-17.

MPSD will need the full $1,000,000 for the 2016-17 budget year because the District is expecting the revenue limit to be reduced by over $765,000 from 2015-16 school year.
