Mother’s Day: Sunday 13th May We wish all ‘Mano Mothers’ a happy and memorable Mother’s Day on this coming Sunday. Today many students took the opportunity to shop for this special day via our Mother’s Day Stall. The stall will operate again on Friday 11th May for any students who missed out today.

NAPLAN testing 15th – 17th May Next week our Grade 3 and 5s will be asked to complete four national assessment tests. On Tuesday: Language Conventions and Writing, Wednesday: Reading and Thursday: Numeracy. We wish them well as they do their best to show their capabilities in these important areas of Literacy and Numeracy. Individualised Reports will be created for each student to reflect their achievements, which will be made available in Term 3. The school will also receive an overall report of student achievement which allows us to track learning from Grade 3 (in 2016 NAPLAN) to Grade 5 (this year), compare school scores to previous years and to other schools/state/national averages. I f you wish to seek an exclusion from this testing for your Grade 3 or Grade 5 child, this is required in writing prior to the tests being conducted.

Education Week 21st -25th May Now only a week away, Education Week at Mano promises to be a fabulous celebration of student learning with a range of special activities planned. In particular I remind students to place their order for the Whole School Breakfast being held at 8am on Thursday 24th May (orders and payment due by Thursday 1pm 17th May) and to think about how they might dress up on this date, in line with the theme of ‘Celebrating the

Arts’ (eg. a singer, musician, dancer, actor, painter etc). We hope to see many parents at our Open Afternoon sessions in classrooms on Wednesday 23rd May, lots of Grandparents in the Prep Community on Friday 25th May, and visitors coming to the Open Day tours on Tuesday 22nd May.

School Council Community Co-opted Member Expressions of Interest Our School Council has a composition of 15 members – 9 parents, 5 Department of Education Employees (Teachers) and 1 Community Co-opted Member. The Community Co-opted Member position is currently vacant. We are seeking to fill this vacancy with a person possessing a particular skill set which could assist our school – such as finance, grant and application writing, fundraising, health and wellbeing promotion, sport and recreation. This could be for a fixed period of appointment such as three months. If you feel that you or someone you know could support our School in such a way, please contact me for further discussions. A Community Co-opted Member does not have to be but could be a Mano parent.

Parent Helpers at Mano Carnivale – again we thank you all Without the support of our parents the recent Mano Carnivale would not have been the successful, memorable event that it was. All parent helpers were eligible to win a special prize and the names of all parent helpers were placed in a bag with one lucky name drawn at assembly this past Monday. Congratulations to Elizabeth Pilling on receiving a voucher as this prize – it was awesome that she was at assembly to receive it!

We Are Moving to Compass for Parent Notifications

Before the end of Term 2 2018, we will be transitioning from Skoolbag to Compass for all communication to parents. This includes ab-sence notifications, parents receiving SMS Alerts/Push Notifications of upcoming school events, the school newsletter, general reminders etc. Parents will also be notified of any minor Sick Bay admissions via SMS. The Office will still ensure phone calls are made for all relevant Sick Bay admissions. We hope this transition will make communication with families more effective and reduce the number of printed notes sent home. Last December all families (except students who commenced in 2018) received a unique Compass log-in letter to setup their Compass Profile. Thank you to those families who have logged onto Compass and have started to submit absence notifications. Compass log-in details have been sent home this week to all families who are yet to log-in. If you need assistance logging in to Compass please contact Jacquie or Jessie in the Office.

Manifold Heights PS Week beginning 7th May 2018

Coordinator: Kammie Kaur

Hi Everyone,

It has been another great week of Term 2 and we have enjoyed group games and other activities at OSHC. Max, Caleb, Tom,

Hayden and Cooper built houses with building blocks. Harriet and Scarlett enjoyed pics-pairs. A group of children had the

opportunity to be active outside. Amber and Leah made bracelets with wool. Jacob, Samuel and William played with Lego. Ella

and Maja built houses with Lego. A group of children enjoyed ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Bobs and Statues’. A group of children participated

in group games ‘Red Knee and Four Corners’. The theme of this week is art and craft and children did painting and decorated cards

for Mother's Day celebrations. Hayden, Scarlett and Madeleine did colouring-in. There was a lot of fun. I would like to thank the

children and parents attending OSHC.

If you looking for registration, just log. www.campaustralia.com.au. Just reminding parents if your child is not attending the OSHC

program on any day they are booked, you must let us know via phone or school office as we are to follow correct procedures in

locating children who have not shown up. This will involve calling parents, additional contact with parents, then if not located the

police. So please ensure you communicate if your child is not attending the OSHC program.

Thanks. Kamaljit (Kammie)
