Julia and Jan for
International Officer
2011/12
Hi internationals,
We are Julia and Jan from Germany and jointly run for the position of international officer. We are both
2nd
years reading Natural Sciences and Mathematics respectively. After enjoying Sidney for one and a
half years, we would like to give something back to the community by committing ourselves to the
position of international officer.
What we will do
Fresher’s week
Contact internationals before arrival at Sidney: explaining specifics of
Cambridge culture (Black tie, gown and the university system) and giving advice on
mobile phone contracts and setting up bank accounts
organise social activities before fresher’s week: e.g. watching a movie, going out
for dinner
pick up people from the train/bus station
help internationals during fresher’s week: form filling, acting as advisory contacts
arrange drop-in sessions: we offer first-aid cookies and tea for homesickness!
International Storage room
Improve accessibility of the international storage room, i.e. more time slots to store your
boxes, access on weekends
Swaps
organising college swaps: you want to attend formal at every single college before
graduating, don’t you?
iCUSU formals: we want to advertise the iCUSU formals among Sidney internationals
Why we are the right people for this position
Since we run for a shared position we will have more time for our job than a single
person
Since we have different personalities and study different subjects we can cover a
broad scope of different tasks. We both have experience as successful organisers of
events from our positions as SciSoc publicity officer, Allen Society president and Wilson
society secretary
 We are approachable and enthusiastic
Julia & Jan
