    INTRODUCTION

    BACKGROUND OF THE INDUSTRY:

New innovations in clothing production, manufacture and design came during the Industrial

Revolution - these new wheels, looms, and spinning processes changed clothing manufacture

forever. There were various stages - from a historical perspective - where the textile industry

evolved from being a domestic small-scale industry, to the status of supremacy it currently

holds. The cottage stage was the first stage in its history where textiles were produced on a

    domestic basis.

During the Industrial Revolution, new machines such as spinning wheels and handlooms

came into the picture. Making clothing material quickly became an organized industry - ascompared to the domesticated activity it had been associated with before. A number of new

innovations led to the industrialization of the textile industry in Great Britain. Clothing

manufactured during the Industrial Revolution formed a big part of the exports made by

Great Britain. They accounted for almost 25% of the total exports made at that time, doubling

in the period between 1701 and 1770.

India Textile Industry is one of the leading textile industries in the world. Though waspredominantly unorganized industry even a few years back, but the scenario started changingafter the economic liberalization of Indian economy in 1991. The opening up of economy

gave the much-needed thrust to the Indian textile industry, which has now successfullybecome one of the largest in the world.

India textile industry largely depends upon the textile manufacturing and export. It also playsa major role in the economy of the country. India earns about 27% of its total foreignexchange through textile exports. Further, the textile industry of India also contributes nearly14% of the total industrial production of the country. It also contributes around 3% to theGDP of the country. India textile industry is also the largest in the country in terms ofemployment generation. It not only generates jobs in its own industry, but also opens upscopes for the other ancillary sectors. India textile industry currently generates employmentto more than 35 million people. It is also estimated that, the industry will generate 12 million

new jobs by the year 2010.

India textile industry is one of the leading in the world. Currently it is estimated to be aroundUS$ 52 billion and is also projected to be around US$ 115 billion by the year 2012. Thecurrent domestic market of textile in India is expected to be increased to US$ 60 billion by2012 from the current US$ 34.6 billion. The textile export of the country was aroundUS$ 19.14 billion in 2006-07, which saw a stiff rise to reach US$ 22.13 in 2007-08. Theshare of exports is also expected to increase from 4% to 7% within 2012

DEPARTMENTALIZATIONIt is the basis by which jobs are grouped together. For instance every organization has its

ownspecific way of classifying and grouping work activities. There are five common forms of departmentalization:

Functional Departmentalization- it groups jobs by functions performed. It can be used in

all kinds of organizations; it depends on the goals each of them wants to achieve.

Product Departmentalization. It groups jobs by product line. Each manager is

responsible of an area within the organization depending of his/her specialization

Geographical Departmentalization. It groups jobs on the basis of territory or geography.

Customer Departmentalization. It groups jobs on the basis of common customers.

Process Departmentalization. It groups on the basis of product or customer flow. Mangal

textile follows process departmentalization. It means grouping jobs on the basis of

product or customer flow. In process departmentalization, departments are separated

based on their role in a production process.

Best example of process departmentalization can be seen in a textile mill where we may

have aspinning department, weaving department, dyeing department, printing

department, etc. Here, inside a textile mill, all activities, which are directly or indirectly

related with spinning are grouped together to make a spinning department.

Textile printing is the process of applyingcolourtofabricin definitepatternsor designs. In

properlyprintedfabrics the colour is bonded with thefiber, so as to resistwashingandfriction.

Textile printing is related todyeingbut, whereas in dyeing proper the whole fabric is uniformly

covered with one colour, in printing one or more colours are applied to it in certain parts only,

    and in sharply defined patterns.

In printing, woodenblocks, stencils, engravedplates, rollers, orsilkscreensare used to place

colours on the fabric. Colourants used in printing containdyesthickened to prevent the colourfrom spreading bycapillary attractionbeyond the limits of the pattern or design.

Knitting is a method by whichthread or yarnmay be turned intoclothor other fine crafts.Knitted fabric consists of consecutive rows of loops, called stitches. As each row progresses, a

new loop is pulled through an existing loop. The active stitches are held on a needleuntil

another loop can be passed through them. This process eventually results in a final product,

    often a garment.

As little as 15 years ago digital printing of textiles, compared with paper for the relatively benign officeenvironment, no doubt looked impossible. The demands of the textile application are extreme. Thetraditional valve jet machines are digital and have been around a long time, but they are appropriate

primarily for large-volume, centralized manufacturing. The newer digital printing technologies openthings up for a wide variety of incremental applications. Tremendous progress has been made, but thereare still many challenges.

    MARKETING

    7 ps of Marketing :

Once you've developed your marketing strategy, there is a "Seven P Formula" youshould use to continually evaluate and reevaluate your business activities. Theseseven are: product, price, promotion, place, packaging, positioning and people.

1.ProductTo begin with, develop the habit of looking at your product as though you were anoutside marketing consultant brought in to help your company decide whether or not it's in the right

business at this time. Ask critical questions such as, "Is your currentproduct or service, or mix of products and services, appropriate and suitable forthe market and the customers of today?"

2.PricesThe second P in the formula is price. Develop the habit of continually examining and reexamining the

prices of the products and services you sell to make sure they'restill appropriate to the realities of the current market. Sometimes you need tolower your prices. At other times, it may be appropriate to raise your prices. Many companies have foundthat the profitability of certain products or services doesn't justifythe amount of effort and resources that go into producing them. By raising their

prices, they may lose a percentage of their customers, but the remaining percentage generates a profit onevery sale.

3.PromotionThe third habit in marketing and sales is to think in terms of promotion all the time. Promotion includesall the ways you tell your customers about your products or services and how you then market and sell tothem.

Small changes in the way you promote and sell your products can lead to dramatic changes in yourresults. Even small changes in your advertising can lead immediately to higher sales. Experiencedcopywriters can often increase the response rate from advertising by 500 percent by simply changing theheadline on an advertisement.4. PlaceThe fourth P in the marketing mix is the place where your product or service is actually sold. Develop the

habit of reviewing and reflecting upon the exact location where the customer meets the salesperson.Sometimes a change in place can lead to a rapid increase in sales.

You can sell your product in many different places. Some companies use direct selling, sending theirsalespeople out to personally meet and talk with the prospect. Some sell by telemarketing. Some sellthrough catalogs or mail order. Some sell at trade shows or in retail establishments. Some sell in jointventures with other similar products or services. Some companies use manufacturers' representatives ordistributors. Many companies use a combination of one or more of these methods.

In each case, the entrepreneur must make the right choice about the very best location or place for thecustomer to receive essential buying information on the product or service needed to make a buying

    decision.

  • 7/29/2019 mangal textile

    16/27

    16

    5. PackagingThe fifth element in the marketing mix is the packaging. Develop the habit of standing back and lookingat every visual element in the packaging of your product or service through the eyes of a critical prospect.Remember, people form their first impression about you within the first 30 seconds of seeing you orsome element of your company. Small improvements in the packaging or external appearance of your

product or service can often lead to completely different reactions from your customers.

With regard to the packaging of your company, your product or service, you should think in terms ofeverything that the customer sees from the first moment of contact with your company all the waythrough the purchasing process.

Packaging refers to the way your product or service appears from the outside. Packaging also refers toyour people and how they dress and groom. It refers to your offices, your waiting rooms, your brochures, your correspondence and every single visual element about your company. Everything counts.Everything helps or hurts. Everything affects your customer's confidence about dealing with you.

    6. PositioningThe next P is positioning. You should develop the habit of thinking continually about how you are

positioned in the hearts and minds of your customers. How do people think and talk about you whenyou're not present? How do people think and talk about your company? What positioning do you have inyour market, in terms of the specific words people use when they describe you and your offerings toothers?

In the famous book by Al Reis and Jack Trout, Positioning, the authors point out that how you are seenand thought about by your customers is the critical determinant of your success in a competitivemarketplace. Attribution theory says that most customers think of you in terms of a single attribute, either

positive or negative. Sometimes it's "service." Sometimes it's "excellence." Sometimes it's "qualityengineering," as with Mercedes Benz. Sometimes it's "the ultimate driving machine," as with BMW. Inevery case, how deeply entrenched that attribute is in the minds of your customers and prospectivecustomers determines how readily they'll buy your product or service and how much they'll pay.

    7. PeopleThe final P of the marketing mix is people. Develop the habit of thinking in terms of the people insideand outside of your business who are responsible for every element of your sales and marketing strategyand activities.

It's amazing how many entrepreneurs and businesspeople will work extremely hard to think throughevery element of the marketing strategy and the marketing mix, and then pay little attention to the factthat every single decision and policy has to be carried out by a specific person, in a specific way. Yourability to select, recruit, hire and retain the proper people, with the skills and abilities to do the job youneed to have done, is more important than everything else put together.

In his best-selling book, Good to Great, Jim Collins discovered the most important factor applied by thebest companies was that they first of all "got the right people on the bus, and the wrong people off thebus." Once these companies had hired the right people, the second step was to "get the right people in theright seats on the bus."
