Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and Nepal Climbing Team (NCT) are pleased

to announce the 2nd Ice Climbing Festival in Humde, Manang (1st Feb- 9th Feb 2020).

Nepal Mountaineering Association was established on 1 November 1973 (2030 Kartik 16)

Thursday. It is a non-governmental, non-profit and non-political organization working as a

national alpine association of Nepal to promote mountain tourism, climbing sports, protect

mountain environments and preserve and promote cultural heritage of mountain people. It is

the only national alpine club authorized to issue climbing permits for 27 mountain peaks of

Nepal.

Nepal Climbing Team is group of professional and expert climber dedicated to promote safe

adventure activities, sports in the locality level, state and in the nation. Our resources are

primarily used for preparing novice climbers interested in pursuing active lifestyle. NCT

events are well attended by members of local environmental groups, outdoor organization,

and students.

Last year’s event was an unprecedented success. More than 20 national and international

people, local participants enjoyed adventure in ice climbing, skiing and archery. The purpose

of this ice climbing festival is to establish a stronger outdoor adventure community by

networking amongst mountaineer, government body, college students, friends, local business,

sponsors and tourists. We are coordinating Ice Climbing activities, movies, archery,

awareness program, explore more climbing spot in Manang area, climbing competition, gear

demo and briefing about winter mountaineering. In addition to introducing countless outdoor

enthusiasts to the region, we gladly offer a number of significant commercial advantages to

any organization that provides goods and service to support our event.

ABOUT NEPAL CLIMBING TEAM

Nepal Climbing Team “NCT” is a non-profit organization established by the Climbers of

Nepal with the purpose of promoting adventures sports. We strive to promote the tourism and

tourism sports in this locality, state and in the Nation through Sports like Ice Climbing, Rock

climbing and many more outdoor sports.

Our Vision:

• Training and encouraging athletes in Ice Climbing and Sport Climbing.

• To organize ice climbing and sport climbing competitions of National and

International level.

• Empowering encouraging Nepali women and girls to achieve their dreams in

adventure sport.

• To build artificial ice climbing wall in Manang for training for athletes.

Looking back at Manang Ice Climbing Festival 2019

2019 saw the pilot project of the Manang Ice Climbing Festival. With huge fanfare and media

coverage 20 participants from all across the country and the world headed to Manang.

Exploring more than 15 frozen waterfalls the participant's climbed through five days. The

waterfalls were climbed by both experienced and novice climbers. After 10 days the ice

climbing festival that also included archery, skiing, bonding sessions and team building

activities, the event concluded with everyone returning home safely with an experience of a

life time.

OVERVIEW

ABOUT THE EVENT

The experience of ice climbing in the frozen waterfalls that followed all the way from

Annapurna is beyond any explanation. Humde, Manang is one of those destinations for ice

climbing. This is where mountaineers train to ice climb before summiting. Humde lies at an

elevation of 3200m which is the closest ice climbing destination.

“Manang Ice Climbing Festival 2020” is an Ice Climbing event, organized by Nepal

Climbing Team in coordination with local community and rural municipality of Humde,

Manang. This is one of the very first events to be organized by NCT after its establishment as

a non-profit tourism organization. This event aims to promote awareness regarding the

importance of Ice climbing for tourism development of Nepal. NCT aims to develop Ice

climbing as a part of sports of our nation.

Keeping the motto of Visit Nepal 2020

in mind, we have come forth with this

unique project. Nepal is famous for

Mountaineering, Trekking, World

Heritage Sites and Bio Diversity. But

there are much more in Nepal to

explore than just regular recreational

activities.

We would like to introduce and take

the Ice Climbing Sport further as an

extreme adventure activity in Nepal.

The “Manang Ice Climbing Festival

2020” is an ambitious project of “Nepal

Climbing Team (NCT)” to recognize

Nepal as the major ice climbing hub in

the world.

OBJECTIVES

To offer a life time experience to ice climbing around the world in Visit Nepal Year

2020

Warmer the climate, lesser the ice: save nature for future generation.

Spreading awareness program towards climate change.

To introduce Nepal as a major ice climbing hub in the world.

To make people aware about the benefit of Ice Climbing in tourism Industry.

To encourage people's participation in adventure sports.

To develop Ice Climbing as the part of adventure game.

Ice Climbing is hidden sports in Nepal, this festival will let the people about Ice

Climbing.

Research and promotion of tourism in Manang.

To establish the Ice Climbing destination in Manang and to promote Manang as an

adventure sports destination.

Empower and encourage local women and girls in ice climbing in Manang.

Organizing awareness program locally about importance of wildlife animals.

climbing hub.

Vinayak Jaya Malla (Executive Chief Director) is a successful climber and a

highly qualified and experienced IFMGA certified guide and Instructor; he has

been climbing and expedition-leading professionally since 2009. Over the last

decade he has engaged in continuous professional development, and participated

in various expedition leading courses. He has summited the Mount Everest twice

(8848 m), Manaslu (8163 m), Lhotse (8516 m) and many other thousanders. He

has contributed for various mountaineering, Rock Climbing and ice climbing

activities.

Bishnu Tamang (Board of Director) is a professional Tour Guide certified by

the Nepal Government. He has been in the climbing and tourism scene for over a

decade now. He has contributed in numerous events happening in Nepal. With A

Bachelor's Degree in Tourism from NATHM and currently doing his Masters in

Nepalese History, Culture and Archaeology. Bishnu has always aimed to

establish Nepal as a leading country in Adventure Sports in the world.

Sangam K.C. (Board of Director) is a hardworking athlete who has

represented Nepal in various International climbing competitions. He is a

professional tour and mountaineering guide with a Bachelor's Degree in Travel

and Tourism. He has contributed for the betterment of tourism and the climbing

scene in Nepal for over a Decade now.

Mingma Sherpa (Board of Director) is a professional rock climber, who

has won the National Sport Climbing Championship several times. He is the

person who represented Nepal in International Rock Climbing Scene for the very

first time. Today, Mingma trains young climbers and motivates. He is the

route setter for most of the climbing competitions in Nepal.

Late Dhurba Bista (Board of Director) has been in the mountaineering

and ice climbing since 2011. Holding a Bachelor's Degree in Travel and

Tourism, he has been contributing continuously for the betterment of

mountaineering scene in Nepal.

Rewat Bir Tuladhar (Event Coordinator) is an adventurer and a

traveler. Growing up he trekked in the hills of Darjeeling. As the bug for

adventure and extreme adventure grew he started with MMA and Parkour .

Later moved on to motorcycling, skydiving, skiing and surfing and the likes.

NOTE- With the untimely demise of our Board Member Late Mr. Dhurba Bishta (during

guiding in Everest in last Spring Season) our Festival has gotten even more personal and

dearer to us and we have been striving to make this event an even bigger one as this is what

Dhurba would have wanted. We have also pledged a part of our revenues to Dhurba’s

Family. Dhurba leaves behind his mother, wife and an infant daughter.
