About UsWe believe the world has allowed violence against women to continue for far too long, especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo where sexual violence against women and girls is epidemic. Our programs reflect the basic premise that when women have equity, nations and the world become more secure. UN studies have found that when women have jobs, there is economic growth across all sectors; and if a girl goes to school, even for one year, her earnings increase dramatically over her lifetime and her children are healthier.

Mamafrica Designs aims to connect you to female artisans in the DRC through their fair-trade handmade items, unique fabrics, and the women’s stories of resilience and hope. Each product sold is unique to the website and sold as a limited edition piece. Our fabrics are one of a kind and each piece tells a story. When you buy from Mamafrica Designs, your money is going to help the women we work with build hope in their communities with the ultimate goal of empowering them to stand proud and be independent.

The goal of Mamafrica Designs is that you get to know the woman you are buying from, and then, through purchasing her products, you help her to become self-sufficient, empowered, and able to support her family. In a region where 85% of women are unemployed, we believe that you can help raise hope by purchasing fair-trade products that go beyond the fabric.
