    Federal Volunteer Force(Angkatan Sukarela Persekutuan) forms the Territorial Army Regiment. Thevolunteers has been organized and structured into 5 main elements; Combat element consists of 16 500-series regiments and armored squadrons; Combat Support elements consists of signal, engineer, artilleryand intelligent squadrons, batteries and unit; Service Support elements consists of logistic, ordnance,electrical-mechanical engineer and medical companies and workshops; Specialist element consists ofsignal, engineer, sea port, railway, water work and power generation units; and Reserve Officer TrainingUnit (PALAPES) in all public institute of higher learning. Before the formation of Border Regiment,Regular Force Reserve (Simpanan Angkatan Tetap) consisting of the 300-series mobilized reservist waspart of the Territorial Army and has strength of 5 infantry battalions being tasked with protecting the

    northern border of peninsular Malaysia.

    500-Series Regiments

    The regiment has the same responsibility as the infantry corps and organization-wise each regiment issubordinated to the brigade where it is located. Ideally each regiment consist of 5 battalions, eachbattalion contains 5 companies, there are 4 platoons in a company and 4 sections in a platoon. In realitythe current average strength of a regiment is 3 battalions. The target ratio of reserve to regular army is2:1 for north and south regions while it is 1:1 in the central region of the peninsular Malaysia.

Formerly these battalions was responsible to patrol the northern border of peninsularMalaysia especially along the East-West Highway and various strategic locations throughout the country.The enrollment contract for this reserve force was for 5 years instead of 21 years as in regular force.
