It current strength of 5 infantry battalions being tasked with guarding the national border against all type of incursion, infiltration, smuggling and criminal activities. Currently it is responsible to patrol the northern border of peninsular Malaysia and there is plan to expand this regiment responsibility to cover the national border in East Malaysia with Indonesia in the distant future. All 5 Border Battalions would be managed by Border Brigad e with a Brigad e HQ reporting to 2 Division HQ.
