Motivations:  *  The  world  is  moving  fast  toward  deployment  of  Internet

Protocol  version  6  (IPv6)  *  But  Malaysia  is  remarkably  lagging  behind  its  main  trading

partners  with  respect  to  IPv6  awareness  and  deployment.    *  On  25/11/2011,  the  Cabinet  approved  implementation  schedule  of

IPv6  in  Malaysia:  *  in  dual  stack  mode  by  end  of  2013  *  in  native  mode  by  the  end  of  2015

*  For  this,  public  services  ICT  workers  must  possess  sufficient  skills  and  knowledge  of  the  IPv6  technology.

IPv6  COMMUNITY    PROJECT

Project  Objectives:  This  project  attempts  to  assist  Malaysian  public  sectors  in  building  their  human  capacity  in  IPv6  technology,  specifically  to  produce  500  trained  IPv6  professionals  among  public  services  ICT  personnel,  through  local  development  of  IPv6  training  syllabus,  learning  material  and  certification  program.    Our  Community  Service  to  Malaysian  Public:      IHL-‐to-‐Public  Transfer  of  IPv6  knowledge  and  the  related    IPv6    technologies

Our  Report  Card:    As  of  31  December  2013,  we  have    …  trained  600+  ICT  staff  from  Malaysia’s  Public  Sectors

workforce  (Grade  17  to  JUSA  C),  …  from  more  than  250  public  agencies/

departments/ministries  …  in  more  than  20  training  sessions  …  by  our  highly  motivated  and  patriotic  10+

member  of  IPv6  team!

Page 12: Malaysia IPv6 Update

Our  own  success  story!  *  Universiti  Utara  Malaysia  (UUM)  is  the  first  public

university  in  Malaysia  to  deploy  dual-‐stack  IPv6.  *  Our  first  two  groups  of  trainees  from  UUM  with  the

support  of  IPv6  team  have  managed  to  deploy  IPv6  in  UUM  campus.

IPv6  COMMUNITY    PROJECT

Page 13: Malaysia IPv6 Update

Challenges

*  To  convince  the  government  agencies  of  the  need  to  be  technically  prepared  for  the  transition  to  IPv6

*  To  convince  the  public  sectors  about  the  credibility  of  local  IHL  and  its  instructors.

*  To  attract  sufficient  number  of  participants  to  attend  training  sessions  at  one  time

*  To  accommodate  different  ICT  staff's  background  in  terms  of  skills  and  competencies  in  information  technology
