Malaysia, is situated seven degrees north of the equator in Southeast Asia. It is divided into two distinct parts, Peninsular Malaysia and Eastern Malaysia. The two regions are 650km separated by the South China Sea, combined it’s population is currently around 22.7 million.

CLIMATEMalaysia is usually tropical, humid and sunny all year round with cooler temperatures in the hill resorts. Tropical rain generally falls from September to February. Enjoy temperatures from 22 degrees at night and 32 degrees during the day.

PASSPORT Each person must carry a passport with at least 6 months validity from the date of arrival into Malaysia. Australian passport holders do not require a Visa prior to arrival in Malaysia for stays up to 60 days. Asia Escape Holidays highly recommends to check all visa requirements with the appropriate embassies or consulates before making travel arrangements.

LANGUAGE Most Malaysians speak their mother tongue of Bahasa Malaysia and either Malay, Mandarin, Chinese dialects or Talay as well as English. English is widely understood as it is the language of business and administration.

DRINKING WATERBottled water it is available at local supermarkets and in your hotel.

TRANSPORTMalaysia operates an excellent transport system. Kuala Lumpur has a first rate transport structure that makes it easy to travel amongst the hussle and bustle. No matter where you are in Malaysia there is always transport available to you and taxis are easily accessible, if this is your preferred mode of transportation.

HEALTH Asia Escape Holidays advise you to talk to your doctor prior to departure about recommended vaccinations or medication that you may require. If ill in Malaysia, please seek advice with the hotel you are staying at.

CURRENCY/MONEY CHANGERSThe local currency is Malaysian Ringgit. Money can changed at licensed money changers, banks or hotels. Credit cards are widely accepted in department stores, hotels and restaurants. Some form of identification will be required if cashing in travellers cheques.

HOLIDAYS/SPECIAL DAYSThere are a number of special days/holidays in Malaysia. April is Prophet’s Birthday, in August is National Day and Mid October is Hari Raya Puasa. Surcharges may apply at hotels and for certain flights during these times.

ELECTRICITYMalaysia’s voltage is 220-240 volts. Some hotels will provide adaptors on request but purchasing your own is recommended.

Introducing the beauty of old and modern Kuala Lumpur, this tour firstly takes you to visit the Petronas Twin Towers, then to Karaneka Handicraft Centre, which offers a host of beautiful handicrafts from various states in Malaysia.

You will make a make a photo stop at King’s Royal Palace, followed by a visit to the National Monument, erected in 1966 in memory of soldiers who fought for Malaysia during WWII.

Visit to the National Museum to give you a history of Malaysian heritage. Lastly you will visit Royal Selangor, the world’s largest and foremost producer of pewter.

This tour begins by taking you on a trip to the outskirts of the Ambassador Row, Istana Sharif Ali and Malay Villages. The first stop is at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre where you will discover the heritage and history of the Pewter company.

From here, tour the Pewter Museum to view ancient pewtersmithing tools and artifacts. Then to the Batik Factory to

see how Batik is designed and printed before you visit the Jade Museum. Last stop is at the Batu Caves which showcase a number of interesting caves.

DAY 2 – PORING HOT SPRINGS / KINABALU PARK

Visit Poring Hot Springs at the Southern end of Kinabalu Park. Take a short trek into the forest to the Canopy Walkway which is suspended between trees at the height of 40 meters which offers an excellent chance to observe the wildlife. Return to and overnight at Wildlife Mountain Lodge. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included).

DAY 3 – GOMANTONG CAVE / SUKAU / KINABATANGAN RIVER

A 4 hour drive through the scenic countryside before visiting Gomantong Caves where the bizarre edible bird’s nests are harvested also a home to more than a million bats. Continue the journey to the village of Sukau at the Kinabatangan River where the greatest concentration of wildlife in Malaysia can be found. Staying overnight at Sukau River Lodge. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included).

DAY 4 – KINABATANGAN RIVER

Boat trips along the river to view numerous species of wildlife such as orang-utans, macaques, red and silver leaf monkeys, elephants, hornbills, crocodiles, civet cats, otters and the most famous creature: the proboscis monkeys. Found only in Borneo, the male of this species has a large pendulous nose, fat belly, thick white tail and webbed feet. Staying overnight at Sukau River Lodge. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included).

DAY 5 – LIBARAN ISLAND

Drive 2½ hours to the district of Sandakan before taking an hour boat ride to Libaran Island. Enjoy a glass bottom boat cruise or snorkel at the nearby

marine islands to see colourful corals and fishes of the Sulu Sea. In the afternoon, walk to the nearby village and observe life in a fisherman’s village. Staying overnight at Libaran Island Lodge. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included).

DAY 6 – SELINGAN TURTLE ISLAND

Boat ride to the nearby Selingan Island where the most important turtle breeding Marine Park is found in all of South East Asia. It is a rare experience watching the turtles lumber ashore every night, dig a hole with their flippers and lay around 100 eggs. The rangers will transfer these eggs to a hatchery for incubation for 50-60 days before hatchlings break out of their shells and scramble up through the sand as they make their way to the sea. Staying overnight at Selingan Island Chalet. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included).

DAY 7 – SEPILOK ORANG-UTAN CENTRE / KOTA KINABALU

Boat transfer back to Sandakan mainland and take a short drive to the famous Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Founded in 1964 the Centre helps once captive orang-utans learn to climb and fend for themselves in the wild with the hope that one day they may return to the forest. You will get a close up view of these orang-utans and have the chance to photograph them at close range. A transfer to Sandakan airport flight to Kota Kinabalu. (Breakfast/Lunch included).

All components of the travel arrangements are provided by suppliers which operate under standards laid down by local authorities and that we believe to be reputable. Airlines, hotels and tour operators may impose their own cancellation fees. These details will be advised to you by your travel agent in the event of a booking cancellation. No refunds or amendments can be made once travel has begun. First amendments made prior to payment in full will be free of charge. Any further amendments may incur a fee of $40 per change.
