CELEBRATION OF WOMEN’S DAY: BENGALURU RURAL AND URBAN

Women’s day was celebrated across our Anganwadi Centres in Bangalore Rural and Urban to recognize and celebrate the contribution of women in the lives of our children. The event celebrated the achievements of Anganwadi teachers, helpers, mothers and the community in joining hands with us in transforming the Anganwadi Centres into child friendly learning spaces. The women participated in several fun activities including fashion show and outdoor games, attended awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene facilitated by Multiple Initiatives towards Upliftment (MITU). The women felt very special and shared that it was a great feeling to be recognized.

OUR CHILDREN AT THE OFFICE OF RADIO MIRCHI!

The children from the Makkala Jagriti Learning Centres visited the office of Radio Mirchi to talk about their performance at Makkala Raaga. They were interviewed on their participation in the event and they shared about their dreams and their favourite music and also had a fun time talking to RJs and teaching them to dance! It was indeed a great exposure to the children and has made children more confident and forthcoming to represent themselves.

WORKSHOP FOR SENSITIZATION OF PARENTS

Makkala Jagriti conducted a sensitization workshop for the parents of children, to create awareness regarding the significance of different stages of child development, early literacy and math at home using locally available materials and creating child friendly learning environment at home. Many women who attended the session, shared with the team that the information shared at the workshop was extremely helpful and they would adopt those good practices in upbringing their children

EXCHANGE WITH CHILDREN FROM NETHERLANDS

Children of Valluvarpuram center exchanged a series of letters and videos with children from the Netherlands over two months. The children enjoyed learning about each other's culture and way of living. They learnt to empathise with the lives of others and appreciate the good things about their own.

INAUGURATION OF REFURBISHED ANGANWADI CENTRES AND HUB INAUGURATION OF REFURBISHED ANGANWADI CENTRES AND HUB CENTRE

Makkala Jagriti, in partnership with United Way, Bengaluru has been working towards transforming 40 Anganwadi Centres in Kadugodi, KR Puram and Electronic City into child friendly and attractive spaces that offering good quality pre-school education to children. The intervention has brought about a holistic transformation in the Anganwadi Centres through intensive civil work, painting and mural art and offering quality pre-school education. The Anganwadi Centres were inaugurated in March 2018 with active participation from the community.

In partnership with Save the Children, Makkala Jagriti launched a unique initiative known as a ‘Hub Centre’ which was envisioned on the lines of a model pre-school learning space to create the best learning environment for children. This Hub Centre will cater to children of four Anganwadi Centres in the vicinity and Anganwadi teachers will use the space for conducting pre-school activities and as a resource centre to experiment with different pre-school education methodologies. The Hub Centre was inaugurated with active participation from the members of the community

EXPOSURE VISIT TO CENTRE FOR LEARNING RESOURCES, PUNE

The members of the Early Childhood Care and Education programme along with the members of the Holistic Development Learning Centres visited the Centre for Learning Resources, Pune as a part of their exposure visit to understand the efforts of the organisation in strengthening the Anganwadi Centres in Mulshi to provide the best quality pre-school education to children from marginalized backgrounds. It was an enriching visit, which helped them understand CLR’s interventions and adopt the best practices in our programmes.

INCREASE IN CONNECTION WITH NATURE FOR YOUTH

Students from the Srishti School of Design conducted several activity based sessions for our youth to increase their awareness on their interaction with nature. Through observation, journaling and fun outdoor activities, our youth got to understand their surroundings better. These sessions aimed at sensitizing our youth on their interaction with nature and thus influence their psycho-social well-being

REVIEW MEETING WITH TEACHERS FROM THE TEACHER EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME

Teachers from the government schools in Konankunte, Bengaluru shared their experiences of using the audio-visual teach kits at the review meeting to evaluate the quality of usage of the audio-visual teach kits. They mentioned that the teach kits are very helpful to them for preparation of lesson plans. ‘The videos and images help engage the children better and more children concentrate in the classroom’, said Nandini, one of the teachers at the meeting.

PARENTS MEETINGS IN GADAG AND KOPPAL SCHOOLS

The parents meetings held in Gadag and Koppal saw an overwhelming participation from the mothers and fathers of our children. They participated in several activities with the children and shared that they would be supportive of the dreams and aspirations of their children.

YuvaJagriti programme participated in the event and 12 boys won medals and the overall championship trophy. The YuvaJagriti programme seeks to empower youngsters from marginalized backgrounds by providing them a wide range of opportunities to pursue their passion, find their calling and supports them throughout their journey.

Her parents were moved to see an unseen talent of hers and have agreed to encourage her by sending her to dance classes. She also visited the office of Radio Mirchi to talk about the Makkala Raaga event. She was interviewed on her performance in the event where she shared about her dreams, her favourite music and interacted well with the Radio Jockeys! It is indeed a great exposure for her as she is now much more confident of herself and does not hesitate to aspire higher!
