XPLORE allows you to interrogate the raw data and apply engineering calculations, providing real-time, historic and near future engineering data that’s unavailable via DCS or SCADA systems.

Data is processed by an internal calculation module (a library of standard and customised calculations) or by XPLORE Simulation Manager (XSM), which performs advanced dynamic process simulations using industry-standard packages such as HYSYS, OLGA, PIPESIM, PROSPER, GAP, UniSim, Compas and Multiflash.

Independent of all control systems, plant historians and simulation packages, XPLORE collects existing production and simulation data in real-time. Using industry-standard Object Linking and Embedding for Process Control (OPC) communication protocols, XPLORE can connect to any source making it the one place to store and view all data.

Data sources can include: › Distributed Control System (DCS) or

SCADA systems › Data historians e.g. PI System › System packages e.g. Bently Nevada › Simulations e.g. HYSYS, OLGA › Databases e.g. Laboratory Information

Management System (LIMS) › Manual inputs (where data is not available

via an interface).

XPLOREprocesses

XPLORE is fully customisable and can be deployed on anything from a single piece of equipment to an entire facility.

Our expert engineers talk directly to you to understand your problem, define your goals and manage your risks, creating a version of XPLORE designed specifically to give you the information you need quickly and efficiently.

XPLORE is an app created by Xodus Group for upstream oil and gas operators to collect, process and deliver accurate production and equipment data.

XPLOREdelivers

All calculation results are viewed via the XPLORE visual interface, a collection of customised web pages built using Microsoft ASP.NET technologies.

Once the framework is installed, all you need to access XPLORE over your corporate intranet is a web browser. No downloads, no plug-ins. And upgrades are simultaneous for all users.

You can select from a range of graphics, tags, trends and plots to view a secure, online picture of your operations. Data can be exported into Microsoft Excel for further analysis.

And XPLORE offers more than just data visualisation. By applying Boolean logic to your data, XPLORE can become a powerful diagnostic tool generating alarms, instructions and emails sent directly to operators and engineers.

XPLORE processes raw data to deliver a powerful, near real-time picture of your operations, allowing you to take the right course of action at the right time and meet your operational targets.

Deliveringresults

There are three system modes to choose from…

Real Time / Predictive Mode Real Time mode runs constantly, displaying the latest process data indicators, events and / or trends.

When conditions remain steady, the XPLORE simulation manager takes a snapshot of the real-time data and initiates a predictive run. Extremely useful in pipeline monitoring, the predictive run is faster than real-time and demonstrates how the process will operate in the near future from the current steady state, assuming there have been no input changes.

Historical Mode All historical data is available from XPLORE. Simply define the period of interest to view and trend the data.

What If Mode Initiated by the user, What If mode takes a snapshot of the real-time data and allows one or more parameters to be altered offline to generate hypothetical dynamic studies. This can be particularly useful in production optimisation “what if the gas lift rate is…” scenarios.

Boolean logic can be applied to all measured and calculated data to generate event messages.

Messaging can be directed to the Active Event Log (available to all users) or via e-mail alerts to individuals or groups.

IT ProfessionalsXPLORE expands the capabilities and user-friendliness of existing historian systems by using OPC communication protocols to integrate calculations and simulations. The role-based visualisation is based on standard Windows authentication technologies and access is controlled easily using standard Windows security techniques.

XPLORE is managed almost entirely on the server. It requires only a standard installation of the Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) web browser with no need for any browser plug-ins. Tight security is built-in as all data is stored and backed up on the server alone. Server side management means that software upgrades are instantly available to users, because only the server needs to be upgraded.

Built using Microsoft ASP.NET technologies, XPLORE is best viewed using the IE web browser. This is a true thin client solution with no additional software required at the user end, reducing IT administration costs.

ManagersXPLORE’s customisable web interface allows managers to quickly determine the current performance of any asset by providing clear, accessible visualisation of performance and applying user-definable trend analysis. The system employs a traffic-light system that allows at-a-glance evaluation. By examining their KPIs and longer-term production trends, managers are able to engage their teams and ensure that downward trends are corrected before significant downtime is incurred.

OperatorsXPLORE enables operators to assess the potential causes of a problem quickly and efficiently, even when no physical data is available, by providing additional information based on inferred or ‘soft-sensed’ variables that provide a comprehensive picture of performance.

EngineersXPLORE is a system enhancement that gives engineers immediate access to engineering information. The system is configured to give engineers easy access to the details lurking behind any performance or integrity upset.

XPLORE provides an additional layer of engineering support by allowing speedy access to the engineering knowledge historically built into the logic functionality of the system. Providing the right information at the right time, engineers can take preventive action to minimise disruptions and downtime.

SummaryThis system monitors two parallel, variable speed centrifugal compressors and the associated gas turbine to give users access to powerful operating data not available through the DCS.

In addition to giving the user real-time visualisation of the compressor operating maps which increases their ability to optimise their process, it also translates the Compressor Control Corporation (CCC) anti-surge control lines enabling troubleshooting and a quick reference for spare capacity identification etc.

The turbine monitoring presents key process information and enables calculation of environmental emissions data (NOx, SOx, CO2 etc.). The system will also provide crucial information for the optimisation of a new load sharing control system.

XPLORE monitors the pressure and flow of gas in the The FLAGS (Far North Liquids and Associated Gas System) pipeline network. Future predictions are modelled to assist in the improved management of liquids at the St. Fergus onshore terminal, delivery of carbon dioxide to the Fife Ethylene Plant and hydrogen sulfide tracking for sales gas quality. The set-up of this system required:

› A feasibility study to determine applicability of model

› Development of UniSim / Compas model and user interface

› Integration testing › Installation in Shell’s Amsterdam

data centre › End user training.

XPLORE uses a real-time dynamic OLGA model to monitor the operation of a deepwater subsea pipeline. In addition to the rich functionality provided by XPLORE as standard, the system offers:

› Real-time monitoring through the automation of OLGA

› Virtual metering – well flows are calculated based on manifold pressures and temperatures

› Gas lift optimisation – visual representation of the current gas lift flow versus optimum settings

› Riser flow regime maps – calculation of the current flow regime associated with the riser base and top to aid with slugging prediction.

Client Talisman Location Piper Bravo / Dumbarton, UK North SeaDisciplinary IntegrationSubsea, Process & Facilities, Software DevelopmentSystem ModulesMonitoring, Optimisation, Virtual Metering, Allocation / Compositional TrackingCalculation ModulesPipelineSimulation ApplicationAspen HYSYS DynamicsSystem ModesReal Time, Historical, Predictive, What If

XPLORE is used to monitor the flow of dense phase gas in subsea pipelines from two Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessels (FPSOs) to the receiving platform. A real-time HYSYS model is used to give state-of-the-art system visualisation and to perform compositional tracking of the individual gas components; methane, ethane etc. This information is crucial in the performance of the commercial allocation accountancy process.

XPLORE’s What If functionality allows the user to perform re-allocation runs to correct the figures should there be any errors associated with values collected via Talisman’s telemetry system.

Predictive functionality gives advanced warning of any potential threats to operations on the receiving platform e.g. the gas quality that will be received is predicted to generate excess liquids which could cause a shutdown of the process.

XPLORE creates an environment that allows a proactive approach to the management of the process. This in turn leads to maximised production.
