Use Move.mil tolocate the nearesttransportation office.
You can opt to schedule your move on your own via Move.mil:
• Select the link forfirst time users
• Select your spouse’s branch of service
• Create yourDPS account
• Schedule yourmove online via theDefense PersonalProperty System
Eligible surviving family members can remainin government housing or receive a housingallowance for up to
365 days
You are entitled to the following benefits:
• Storage ofhousehold goods
• Travel allowances
• Per diem
2Take inventoryof yourbelongings.
Include as much informationin your inventory as possible:
Item names and descriptions
ConditionNumber of items (if a set)
Serial numberReceipts or valuePicture (if possible)
Store your inventory
in a safe place,
like the cloud or
a safe deposit box.
3File claimsfor yourtravel.
Find claim-filing informationand forms under theDefense Travel System.
Visit theDefense TravelManagement Office website to find themost recent perdiem rates.
Save yourreceiptsfor lodging,gas and food.
4 File claims for lost or damaged belongings.
9 monthsto file claims that may beeligible for repair or fullreplacement value fromthe Defense Finance and
Accounting Service
75 daysafter the date of
delivery to report lostor damaged items via
the DPS
