How WMTY? can make a difference to the business
It’s one of the ways we can have a voice.
It’s a great way to show that Tesco does listen because
it’s all about:
Reflecting on our behaviours by holding up a mirror to the business
‘shining a light’ on the culture we’re creating and support everyone to improve our working environment
Encouraging teams to then work together to make Tesco a great place to work, and shop

The Big 6

The Big 6

Fans = Colleagues who chose options 9 -10
Critics = Colleagues who chose options 0-6
And is based on an 11 point scale. It’s calculated by subtracting our Critics’ responses (options 0-6) from our Fans’ responses (options 9 and 10)

Data or Insight?
Data or Insight?
Making sense of data…
View the results through multiple lenses
There’s no magic formula There is no right or wrong answer …it’s an interactive process
THINK ABOUT… How you did versus last time How you’ve done versus external results What looks high and what looks low
The danger is making decisions on the data alone.
Sometimes it’s misleading
For Example
Some data shows me that there is a opposite relationship between hair
length and height
THE TALLER PEOPLE ARE, THE SHORTER THEIR HAIR
And sometimes it’s really misleading
So the only way to get to why is by talking to the team
We then thought… men are taller than women and men have shorter hair
So we took gender out of the data
AND THERE WAS NO RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN HAIR AND HEIGHT!
Try it yourself On your tables, take a look at the mock report and talk about what you think the data is telling you

Our part to play
Data is only useful when we understand why and therefore
can begin to see how to improve things
3 different approaches when talking through results
1. How we’re feeling about our results Ask the team what their initial thoughts are after they have read through the results
2. Our strengths and opportunities
These questions are chosen based on overall positivity, comparisons against internal / external averages, and whether they drive our ‘Great Place to Work’ measure. They offer a shortcut to get to key questions – fast.
3. What we’ve said we’d like to change upfront Review the open comments – statistics only paint part of the picture. Use the open comments to hear colleague voices and build a better understanding of the most important topics.

What looks high and what looks low
Always consider team context
The Do’s…
Ask others what they think about the results
Talk to people ask why they feel this way Review what you did last year and what
impact it had
And Don’ts…
× Make assumptions
× Don’t worry if you need to repeat
the cycle - it’s an iterative process
× Start from scratch every year
