Thinking about what might happen
is called making making predictionspredictions.
When you make predictions, you are
like a detective.
You use cluesclues in the story (or in your life
situation) to help you predict.
You also use what you already knowalready know.
We make predictions all the time:
•Who will win the game?•What will be for dinner?•Will I do well on my test?
We can even use predicting outcomes to help us in
school!•I want to do better in math. I know what I’ve been doing isn’t working. If I start ___________, my grades will improve.•I’m having a hard time getting my homework done. I know the late points (or zeroes) are hurting my grade. If I don’t change, I predict…
We also need to make predictions while reading. WHY?
•To become a better reader.•To make reading more fun!
A chart like this can help you make
predictions.
