Principal’s report

Junee North generosity at its best!

On Monday we held a special ‘Footy Day’ fundraiser for

our friend Zach Diggins and his family. Zach is going

through rigorous chemotherapy in Sydney and we

wanted to do something to brighten his day and make

life a little easier for the Diggins family. Our students

and staff turned out in their favourite footy team

colours, and an absolutely amazing donation of cakes

for our stall flooded in! All up we managed to raise

$550! A giant Melbourne Storm card was signed by

every student and staff member just to let know we are

thinking of him. We hope that this goes just a little way

to put a little smile on his face!

Our cake stall was a huge hit thanks to the huge

number of donations

Miss Walters assists Delaney and Emily with their get-

well messages for Zach

Super spellers

Eleven of our students recently sat the University of

NSW Spelling competition. This year there were some

extremely tricky words to tackle. Special

congratulations to Aimee White, Caitlyn Payne & Tahlia

White who achieved Credit awards; and to Will

Holloway who achieved a Distinction award!

Wonderful writers

Seven students also recently competed in the Uni NSW

Writing competition. This year the genre was narrative

writing and there were some interesting stories written!

Well done to Will Holloway, Tahlia White and Jake

Vanzanten who achieved Credit awards; and to Eleanor

Baldock who achieved a Distinction!

Farewell Karen

Sadly we have lost the services of one of our very long-

standing and wonderful Learning Support Officers –

Karen Hemsley. Karen is pursuing another career and

we are sorry to lose her. Our best wishes Karen!

Sports news

PSSA Athletics

Well done to all competitors who competed at Temora

last Friday. Special congratulations to Nicholas

Richards – runner up in the Senior Boys champions;

and to Jaxson Allen who broke the 100m 10 year boys’

record in his heat, then broke his own record in the

finals! We are still waiting to find out which athletes

have made it through to the Riverina carnival.

Trent Barrett

The 3/4 boys Trent Barrett Shield team progressed to

the finals of the competition after a successful carnival

held in Junee on Wednesday. The boys displayed

excellent skills and sportsmanship to win all 3 games

and the final. They played against St Joseph's and won

12 - 8. Secondly they beat Cootamundra Public 1 - 20 -

8 before beating EA Southee 32 - 16. They made their

way to the final where they played against

Cootamundra Public School 2 and won after a very

close game 32 - 20. They now head to Wagga for the

finals on Tuesday September 6th.

Mr Maxwell

Our girls 3/4 League Tag team won all four of their

games at the Trent Barrett Shield to reach the finals.

We won 32-0 against St Josephs, 8-4 against

Cootamundra, 36-12 against Coolamon and 20-4

against Junee. It was an outstanding team effort, with

every one playing their role in our success.

Torah Newman was our player of the day, scoring over

10 tries and saving many others with her defence.

Maggie Hawke was our other dummy half and along

with Mattie Makeham did an awesome job of holding

our wings in defence and running dangerously in

attack. Our first receivers Mya Chisholm and Hannah

Fitzgerald were fantastic with all of their skills, Mya

saved the game against Cootamundra with a tag on

the line. Our super subs Aimee White and Jessica

Eccleston gave us a boost when they came on. Chloe

Masters and Shallan Wright were tremendous without

the ball, working particular hard when they got into

marker, and ran the ball with success too.

Thanks to our very supportive parents and other family

members who cheered the girls on during the day.

Chess Tournament

A fantastic effort by our chess players who competed

in the Riverina Tournament at Sturt School last week.

21 players attended with some excellent results.

Particular congratulations to Brandon Collins, Tristan

Davis and Tyler Heir who we believe came in equal 3rd

place. Well done everyone!

Showing their respect

Thank you to our four captains and the Junee North

students and their parents who represented our school

yesterday at The Vietnam Veteran’s memorial service.

Your behaviour was beautiful as you displayed great

respect for the occasion.
