    Introduction

    1he Lake Lugano House 32rusino Arsi4io' 5wit4erland6 pro"ect was born

out of my motivation to e7plore the new possibilities enabled by

    5ketch8p ()%* and 9$ay for 5ketch8: (.). ;t is a personal interpretative

study of a house' designed by JM Architecture on the shore of Lake

    Lugano' 5wit4erland.

My goal with this pro"ect was to study dusk scenes with articial interior

and e7terior lightning' and took close to two weeks to complete. ; also

attempted to achieve a photo realistic look using the builtin depth of

eld feature in 9$ay for 5ketch8:. 1here was a focus on crisp and

contrastrich images achieved thanks to the cinematography color

grading plugin used during :hotoshop post production.

1he pro"ect also includes an image with cloudy sky and gold interior. 1he

tones seen here were mostly achieved using :hotoshop.

First of all' ; would like to thank $onen for the opportunity of write this

article. ;t>s a great honor and pleasure to be showcased here on the

    blog.

1his pro"ect has its origin back three years ago. ; was surng the web'

searching for references about the use of HD$i lighting and ; found a

pro"ect that caught my attention right away. ;t was the Lake Lugano

    House &d recreation by James :ickfordand ; said to myself that one day ;

will attempt remaking this house and achieving the same kind of look in

    -?.

After many commissioned pro"ects for clients' ; decide that it was time to

make a personal pro"ect. A pro"ect in which ; can e7plore many thingsthat ;>ve learned over the years. ?etting the dusk look @ feel was

    something ; was always fascinated about since ; got started with Arch9;

and achieving that mood where interior illumination and ambient

illumination are combined and in balance was a goal for me during this

    personal pro"ect.

/nce ; nally got started' it was delayed due the amount of work ; had

and ; was unable to complete. 2ut' after the longawaited B,bit

5ketch8: ()%* came out' ; knew that was a great time to resume this

pro"ect and test the new capabilities.

    Why SketchUP?

    2ecause ; love it# 5ketch8: is a powerful tool that is often

underestimated' and let me show you the real power of this ama4ing

    tool.

    Like ; said before' the pro"ect beginnings dates back to last year' when ;

started modelling with a raw -AD drawing that ; made from J:?>s of the

original drawings. After a lot of tests ; found the correct way of modelling

    this.

    Selecting the Project

    Chy this house

    !asy#

First time laying my eyes on it the architecture seduced me. 1he

simplicity of the architectural resolution is so clean and comple7 at the

same time. ;t was a challenge to give it detail and to keep it clean. 1he

curved glass is one of the elements that ; thought was important to

resolve well along with the surroundings and e7terior design. 1he gravel

and grass combination was a great challenge in 5ketch8:.

1he prevailing white color and the attention to detail makes this pro"ecta real challenge.

1he process started gathering as much information as possible' starting

with the house drawings and photos.

Interior Modeling (SketchUp view, plan view)

1he interior modelling was relative simple given that the architecture

    itself it>s a lot of the pro"ect.

    Exterior Modeling

  • 7/23/2019 Making of Lake Lugano House

    15/58

1he e7terior modelling was achieved by the referencing photos of the

original house' with emphasis on the vegetation and gravel.
