“Making Godly Decisions”Acts 1:21-26

“’So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out

among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was

taken up from us—one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection.’ And they put forward

two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also called Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed and said, ‘You, Lord, who

know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen to take

the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned

aside to go to his own place.’ And they

cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with

the eleven apostles.”

Five Biblical Principles for Making Godly Decisions

Principle 1

Seek to glorify God in all things.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father

who is in heaven.”

(Matthew 5:16)

Principle 2

Pray for God’s clear guidance

and direction.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he

will make straight your paths.”

(Proverbs 3:5-6)

Principle 3

Weigh every decision against God’s Word.

“All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for

correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good

work.”

(2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Principle 4

Consider the rewards and the consequences.

“For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count

the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?”

(Luke 14:28)

Principle 5

Place every decision in God’s hands.

“And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered

with the eleven apostles.”

(Acts 1:26)
