What is a Flying Collections Assistant? The Flying Collections Assistant supports the Museum Development Officers to provide advice and training to museums across the West Midlands. The role provides free assistance to museums working to improve standards in collections care and achieve Accreditation. What is Making Collections Count? Making Collections Count is part of the 2012-2015 museum development programme. You can choose from a range of collections care projects to work on with the Flying Collections Assistant. A small amount of programme support funding is available for each project. The project will help you to: ? Raise standards in collections care ? Implement recommendations for improvements in collections care through programme support funding ? Develop plans for continuous improvement in collections care ? Work towards achieving or maintaining the Accreditation Standard What does it involve? The Flying Collections Assistant will spend approximately 3 days working with your museum on your chosen project. Each project begins with a Benchmarks in Collections Care assessment. This toolkit assesses your collections care activities and helps you to prioritise simple, cost-effective improvements. What is a Flying Collections Assistant?

What happens next?

You will be contacted by the Flying

Collections Assistant to discuss the project

in more detail and to arrange an

introductory visit. This initial visit will be

used to talk about your museum, collections

and aims for the project and to conduct a

Benchmarks in Collections Care assessment.
