Yr. 9 Exams

Firstly, you need to be aware of the importance of the exams you sat this week.

The outcomes and results from these exams could have an influence on your future choices at this early stage, for example, they will help determine how many Bacc groups the school can offer when you are in Yr10.

In February you will be asked to choose the subjects that you will study in Years 10 and 11

Objectives:

You will need to have a good idea about the types of jobs or careers that are available to you.

You will need to understand the range of qualifications that you can study and which you will need for your chosen area.

You will need to consider what you might do when you finish Year 11 and the impact that this will have on any choices you make now

Your Choices

In February you will need to choose the subjects that you wish to study at KS4

This process is called the ‘Options Process’

You will be able to choose from a range of subjects but you need to make your choices carefully.

Today you will start to think about what you might do when you leave school.

Your teacher will give you a pack! Firstly you need to think more carefully about the

sort of person you are. What interests do you have? What skills do you have? What jobs do you think that you would enjoy? What would you dislike? Complete pages 1-4 of your booklet. Check what you have written with a friend - do

they agree with it?

What is the E-Bacc?

It is a suite of qualifications that the government believe that you need to access certain courses post-16 and post-18 and that you need to gain entry to a Russell Group University (one of the top universities).

The qualifications include: Maths, English, 2 Sciences, MFL and either History or Geography.

Some of you will automatically be put into these subjects. Others can opt for them.

Qualifications

So now you know what the different qualifications are.

Qualifications are your ‘currency’ when you leave school. What does this mean?

Do you know what careers are available to you?

Do you know what qualifications you will need for those jobs?

Complete the next 2 questions in your pack.

Today you will:

Be finding out about different pathways you can take at 16 and at 18

Be finding out about a specific job/career area. You will learn about what you can do, how much

you can earn and what qualifications you will need to do that job.

You will find out about yourself. What are you likely to achieve in KS4?

You will find out more about ‘the world of work’ You will have an insight into what life is like at

university

You will be given a time table for the day you will spend about 25 minutes in each session and then move onto the next

In the last session you will start to think about what options you may want to take next year.
