One Way to Solve the Problem

It is now generally accepted that vehicles are a major source of pollution in cities. You are to suggest ONE way to solve the problem.

One Way to Solve Pollution from Vehicles Cities are not as clean as they were 10 years ago,

which has become a serious problem deserving our great concern. One important source of air pollution, generally believed, is vehicles, which emit a large amount of waste gases into the air. To solve the problem, many and varied proposals have been presented, like limiting the number of vehicles, and using smokeless fuel. My advice is that electricity replacing fuel should be an effective way to solve pollution from vehicles.

Electricity contributes to the solution to vehicle pollution for two reasons. The first reason is that electricity is a clean power. Unlike fuel containing toxics, electricity will not emit any such waste gases. Many electricity-powered bicycles have appeared, which have made our cities cleaner. The second reason is that electricity may make the air protection sustainable. In the long run, electricity is more easily available than fuel. Compared with fuel exploration, which depends on the limited reservoir of crude oil in the sea or on the land, electricity can be generated widely from more cleaner sources such as wind, water and sunlight. With the development of technology of transforming these various source of energy to electricity, I believe electricity will certainly be a way to replace fuel as driving power.

From the above evidence, we can easily see the prospect electricity may bring us in solving the problem of vehicle pollution. We are expecting a cleaner world.

The Public Transportation System--the Answer to the Problem of Urban Air Pollution

Below, vehicles are snaking; above, palls (阴暗的笼罩物) looming (隐现) . Over bridge is the spot to appreciate the maxim “man is his worst enemy” second to none. I, feigning (假装) admiring the landscape, am actually choking in the sinister feast of poisons. However, we urban residents' destiny is not sealed yet and there are remedial means. One way to attack this problem is to develop a more efficient and clean public transportation.

Firstly, the public transportation system greatly reduces the demands for private vehicles. People buy private cars to facilitate traveling, but what if there is a more economical and convenient alternative? The fact is provided we develop an integrated and efficient network where the buses, subways infiltrate every corner and crook of the city and function punctually, most of the potential car buyers would refrain to save the trouble of maintenance, parking, gasoline and insurance. Fewer cars means less exhaust given off, therefore the problem can be greatly soothed.

Secondly, public transportation promotes green energy. Environmentally-friendly energy is renewable, efficient and clean, but also expensive compared to conventional fossil fuels. The cost and requirement for compatible hardware-the special engine, igniter etc.- has been its major bottlenecks. But in this case, with policy-oriented subsidies these monetary and technological problems can be solved through technological investment and improvement. May it be powered by electricity, natural gas, biofules or solar energy in the years to come; we’ll surely see more blue skies.

Surely enough, the solution to the air problem requires long-term concerted efforts, but the public transportation system can and should play a leading role. Besides, full civil awareness and participation is also essential.
