Be prepared to expand your mind.[Amazing feats of intellectual daring required.]

Factor this: Stevenson students who have completed AP Calculus (BC) take on multivariable calculus, a course level most college students never reach.

Explore recent history: Collaborate on an online forum examining topics like the anti-war music of the Vietnam era and the history of social media.

Test your skills: Pre-engineering and Robotics students take on challenges like designing energy-efficient homes, electric guitars, and underwater robots. They even take their innovations to regional and national competitions.

Seek out adventures in new lands: Immerseyourself in a new culture.Spend a semester, year, or summer living in a foreign land through one of our12 study abroad programs.

Write your heart out: One alumnus launched his musical career in English class, with his rap version of Macbeth. You might find your muse writing for Tusitala, our student newspaper, or Vailima, the literary magazine.

“Academics comes first but it’s really important to be involved in sports and clubs. I’m in the Math Club, I play the trumpet — and football. The opportunities are endless.”

— Nick, junior

Love language? You could become fluent in Spanish, French, Latin, Japanese, or Mandarin Chinese.

“I work really hard, but it’s so interesting and worth it. My teachers teach in a way that we can still enjoy what we’re learning even though it’s tough.”

— Kate, senior

Begin your Stevenson story now.Visitcampus and experience the spirit of Stevenson for yourself. There’s no better place to learn and live than nestled in the renowned community of Pebble Beach. Once you step onto campus, we think you’ll agree.

Then take the most important step:Apply! Go tostevensonschool.org/admission/pebblebeach.

Be sure to make time to explore. The Pacific Ocean is just a short walk from campus (you can hear the waves — and the seals). And the towns of Pacific Grove, Monterey, and Carmel are just minutes away.

Our short(ened) story.

History & Character Stevenson is the Monterey Peninsula’s only PK — 12 independent, non-sectarian, co-ed school. The Pebble Beach campus (Grades 9-12) was founded in 1952; the Carmel campus (Pre-Kindergarten — Grade 8) was acquired in 1988. Named after storyteller and adventurer Robert Louis Stevenson, the school embraces his spirit with an environment that values challenge, creativity, curiosity, independence, respect, responsibility, and self-expression.

Motto Suaviter in modo, fortiter in re. (Gentle in manner, strong in deed.)

StudentsStevenson’s Pebble Beach campus is home to 520 students (55% resident and 45% day students, and an equal number of boys and girls) from 20 countries and 16 states.

FacultyOur faculty are committed to developing both the mind and character of students. Nearly 24/7, they are advisors, tutors, mentors, and coaches. More than two-thirds hold advanced degrees, and all stay current in their fields via advanced study, professional conferences, and course design work.

CampusNearly 60 acres of academic and laboratory spaces, residence halls, dining hall, dance studio, gymnasium, art/ceramics studios, playing fields (including football), tennis courts, newly renovated pool, 400+ seat performing arts center, and radio station KSPB (the largest student-run radio station west of the Mississippi). At the heart of it all: our 30,000 sq.-ft. student center and amphitheater.

Residential LifeSeven residence halls feature common rooms connecting the boys’ and girls’ wings so that social time is spent together — studying or coming together for an impromptu ice cream party, karaoke competition, or a dance-off. More than 40 faculty members and their families live on campus — creating a community of support and companionship.

Outdoor Education Think mountaineering, an extensive ropes course, and outdoor leadership, as well as after-school activities like sea kayaking and rock climbing.

Monthly backpacking, climbing, or day hiking trips take advantage of our proximity to Big Sur, the Ventana Wilderness and Monterey Bay, as well as other state and national parks. The Sophomore Wilderness Expedition, or “Expo,” is the highlight of the program, during which students spend 11 days trekking and exploring the great outdoors.

DiversityStevenson is a safe, respectful place where differences are celebrated, ideas are shared, and what makes us unique is more important than what makes us the same. We value diversity of race, culture, language, gender, age, disability, religion, and orientation — just as we do ideas, opinions, and viewpoints. We help students prepare for life through the development of a strong sense of personal identity.

MissionStevenson, a selective school for college-bound boarding and day students, commits to three aims:

To prepare students for success in college and beyond

To foster their passion for learning and achievement

To help them shape a joyful life

Therefore, we maintain:

A faculty and staff of gifted, principled, attentive adults

A lively curriculum — innovative in method, scholarly in content, and global in scope

An exceptional range of academic, athletic, and artistic choices for students to explore, both independently and with friends

A respectful, welcoming community, grounded in ethical and spiritual values

A serene, comfortable campus along the magnificent forested coastline of the Monterey Peninsula

SustainabilityEnvironmental stewardship is a Stevenson core value. Residence halls are equipped with filtered-water stations, and the dining hall composts 100% of its food waste with the recently acquired “Rocket” composter (one of only four in the U.S.). Students sow and reap from the community organic garden, and recycling is encouraged throughout the campus. Our newest residence hall, Barrows, is LEED gold certified. And we just completed the Johnson House, our first passive faculty townhouse.

College PlacementOur seven college advisors work one-on-one with students to help them find the right college. Each year more than 70 colleges and universities visit campus, plus we offer two college tours that take students to colleges and universities from Southern California to the East Coast.

Global Village Stevenson’s student body reflects our connectedness to the larger global community. Students graduate from Stevenson comfortable with cultures, religions, races, and ideologies that are different from their own. Upon graduation, Stevenson students join a network of more than 6,700 alumni, representing all 50 U.S. states and more than 55 countries.
