Includes any dwelling that has been constructed for the purposes of display that, at the time of entry, has not been approved by the local authority or developer as a display home.

Includes one unit of a duplex, triplex, unit development or group development (divide the overall contract price by the number of units to determine price category).

RESIDENTIAL ALTERATIONS AND ADDITIONSIncludes extensions, alterations, renovations and restoration of an existing dwelling.

The category covers those buildings recognised as Classes 5-10 by the Building Code of Australia and only includes Class 2-4 residential buildings that are not covered by our residential categories.MULTI RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENTSIncludes a development on a single allotment (may be strata-titled) with three or more grouped dwellings (Class 1a buildings as defined by the Building Code of Australia). This category does not include apartment buildings.Includes Class 2 residential apartments and Class 3 housing for seniors, as defined by the Building Code of Australia.BEST CIVIL ENGINEERING WORKSIncludes roads, railways, bridges, tunnels, car parks and utility infrastructure. On site judging will take place between 13 - 17 July 2015. Where possible, entrants will receive a minimum one week’s notice of the time and date. Changes to inspection times cannot be guaranteed.

PHOTOGRAPHYPhotographs must be submitted with all entries. Images provided will be used in the audiovisual presentation and media, material which does not meet the below criteria will not be accepted.

For whole project entries by Builders, please provide:

ª Five (5) landscape colour images showing different INTERNAL aspects of the completed project.

ª Four (4) landscape colour images showing different EXTERNAL aspects of the completed project.

ª If possible, please also provide three (3) colour images showing aspects of the project DURING construction.

ª Alterations & Additions - include four (4) relevant “before” images.

ª

For separate Trade Award entries by Subcontractor/Tradesperson, please provide:

ª Five (5) landscape colour images showing all aspects of the completed job being entered.

ª If possible, please also provide three (3) colour images showing aspects of the job DURING construction.

All entries to be supplied on one disc. Ensure separate folders for each entry. Each photo is to be labeled with building address and area, ie: 2 Boulder Rd-Kitchen, 2 Boulder Rd-Bedroom etc.

Photos must have a minimum resolution of 300dpi and a minimum image size of 297mm x 210mm in .jpg or .tif format, and be landscape orientation. Photos must be no larger than 5mb each.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSPlease be aware that the emphasis of judging for entries is based on the onsite inspection by the judge/s. In addition, the following information must accompany each entry:

The following items must be attached together, but NOT stapled or bound:

ª A fully completed entry form for each project, including signed declarations and entry fee.

ª A copy of the current street directory that highlights the property location to the nearest cross road.

ª A maximum 60 word description of the project to be supplied on disc (as well as hard-copy) in a word format that ADDRESSES EACH JUDGING CRITERIA for each entry, focusing on the aspects of construction, NOT DESIGN. Note: Documentation on disc should be filed titled as ‘Category/Builder(or tradesperson)/ Address of Project (or job)’.

ª A list of subcontractors/tradespeople engaged on the project.

ª For whole Projects entered by Builder: plans (reduced to A4) - including elevation and floor plans.

ª For Display Homes: Advertising Brochure and Letter of Authority from Local Authority or Developer.

EXCELLENCE IN CONCRETE FINISHINGRecognises quality of workmanship and finishing of surfaces including construction joints and difficulty of area/site..

EXCELLENCE IN BRICK/BLOCK PAVINGRecognises site preparation, alignment of paving, consistency of joints, finish of edges and overall difficulty of the project.

EXCELLENCE IN STEELRecognises the innovative use of cold formed steel, sheet metal or cladding in structural or visual elements. Also includes sheds and patios.

2015 BEST COUNTRY HOMEEntrants are judged from the best of CONTRACT and DISPLAY HOMES as selected by our judging panel. Joint winners may be awarded. The winner/s of this Award will compete in the statewide 2016 Master Builders-Bankwest Housing Excellence Awards for the title of ‘Best Regional Home’. If successful the winner will then compete for the title of ‘Bankwest Top WA Home’.

EXCELLENCE IN ALTERNATIVE WALL FINISHINGSRecognises innovative use of alternative wall finishes and/or multiple finishes. Includes internal and external finishes, such as feature walls, wall paper, stone cladding, render, etc.

EXCELLENCE IN CARPENTRY (INTERNAL/EXTERNAL)Recognises quality of workmanship in ballustrading, door margins, jointing of moldings, finishing to hinges, latches, strikers, skills and returned scotias, shelving and general workmanship.

EXCELLENCE IN CEILINGSRecognises workmanship in visibility of joints/nails/screws, plane of plaster board, cornice joints and fixing including alignment, and squareness of bulkheads. Includes timber lining, glosswood etc.

EXCELLENCE IN FLOOR TREATMENTSRecognises workmanship involved in the finish and consistency of finish, visibility of joints or cracks to surface, plumbness and alignment around fittings and walls, for floor treatments other than tiling. Includes polished concrete, timber flooring etc.

EXCELLENCE IN FLOOR AND WALL TILINGRecognises workmanship that includes setouts, margins, scribing of tiles and waste cuts, steps, jollies, grouting including sealants around wall and floor tile junctions. Includes kitchen, bathroom and general area floors.

EXCELLENCE IN PAINTINGRecognises workmanship including general finish, preparation work, coverage of paint to door

tops and bottoms, frames, sills, moldings and consistency of finish. Must be a Registered Painter.

EXCELLENCE IN PLASTERBOARD LININGSRecognises workmanship in visability of joints/nail/screws, flushing, cornice joints and squareness of bulkheads.

TRADE AWARDS

APPRENTICE OF THE YEARRecognises building and construction industry apprentices who have demonstrated commitment to their training. Applicants will be assessed on their overall achievement in studies and on-the-job training. Please refer to separate entry form for details.BANKWEST BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE - BUILDEREntrants need to demonstrate fair trading principles and how a customer service culture is promoted within their organisation. Client feedback will also be considered. Nomination is open to Master Builders members only. Please refer to separate entry form for details. WATER WISEImplementation of water efficiency in construction, considering water pressure regulation, grey or black water systems, water harvesting, water fixtures (including taps, showers, baths, toilets, spas, pools and any appliances), and any outside landscaping or irrigation done. In a one (1) page document address the criteria and at least 3 target areas as per Water Corporation Guidelines. Attach any relevant supporting documentation. MOST AFFORDABLE FAMILY HOMERecognises the best value home a typical consumer can build at this time relative to the square metre rate.

MOST LIVEABLE BUILDING/HOMEThis award showcases builders that have included features into their construction to make the project more liveable. This award considers maximum accessibility for occupants and/or visitors and the adaptability of the project to accommodate a range of needs.REGIONAL MEMBER OF THE YEARThis award is presented for outstanding commitment and contribution to the Master Builders Goldfields-Esperance Region, over and above the usual, during 2014/2015. The winner of this award is automatically entered into the running for Top Regional Member Award for WA of 2015. Entry is not needed for this award, but nominations directed to the Events Manager will be accepted up until the 9th June 2015.JOHN TRUMAN AWARDThis award recognises consistent high quality of work throughout all projects. All scores for each project entered per builder are averaged out. A minimum of four entries must be submitted to be eligible for this award.

SPECIAL AWARDS

MAJOR AWARDS2015 BEST COMMERCIAL/ INDUSTRIAL PROJECT

Entrants are judged from the best COMMERCIAL or INDUSTRIAL builds as selected by our judging panel. Joint winners may be awarded. The winner/s of this award will compete in the statewide 2016 Master Builders-Bankwest Excellence in Construction Awards for the title of ‘Best Regional Project’. If successful the winner will then compete for the title of ‘Bankwest Best Project.’

All entries submitted by a Builder for a Project Category, includes entry into any/all Trade Awards, as per nominated on the entry form. Subcontractors/Tradespersons are now welcome to also enter their work for judging into the Trade Awards, independently of the Builder, if the project has not already been entered via a Project Category. Entry requirements will still need to be met for Subcontractor/Tradespersons entries, and a separate entry fee will apply.

SPECIALIST AWARDSBEST APPOINTED BATHROOMRecognises workmanship that complies with AS3740 for water drainage along with setouts, margins, scribing of tiles and waste cuts, the squareness of showers, bath risers, alignment of hobs, steps, jollies, grouting including sealants around baths and wall and floor tile junctions, also includes finishing of surfaces, fixtures and fittings.

BEST APPOINTED KITCHENRecognises quality of workmanship involved in the successful execution of bench joints, door/drawer alignment, ease of draw operation, internal quality of fixing, edging, colour consistency, fixing of appliances/sinks, plumbness of cupboards and alignment of handles, and also includes finishing of surfaces, fixtures and fittings.

EXCELLENCE IN RECYCLINGRecognises builders who actively participate in recycling materials on site in order to divert waste from landfill.

EXCELLENCE IN BUILDING PRACTICERecognises a Registered Builder who has achieved the highest construction excellence across all projects entered in this year’s Goldfields-Esperance Building Excellence Awards. The builder must have entered a minimum of 2 projects and achieved a high standard in construction and supervision, including site managements, office administration, proficient and competent work outcomes.

EXCELLENCE IN ENERGY EFFICIENCYRecognises building design that features beyond 6 star requirements including lighting and energy management systems that reduce the building’s carbon footprint.

No additional fee is payable and all entries are eligible. For all sponsors awards address the criteria in a one (1) page document and include with your entry. Attach any relevant supporting documentation.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY1. Project Award and Special Award categories (excluding Apprentice of the Year and Regional Member of the Year) are

open to all registered builders/building companies only, and must operate in the Goldfields-Esperance region.

2. Best Customer Service Award is open to Master Builders Association Building members only.

3. Subcontractors and /or Tradepersons who enter a Trade/Specialist Award independently of a Builder, must hold individual Master Builders Subcontractor membership during the Judging period.

4. Entries must have achieved practical completion on or before 15th May 2015 prior to judging commencing. Entries that do not achieve this time frame will be disqualified and all fees are forfeited.

5. Projects that have been previously judged in the Master Builders Goldfields-Esperance awards program cannot be re-entered.

6. All applicable sections of the entry form must be completed and the required documentation provided by the closing date (including payment).

7. Nominated projects that are withdrawn after the close of entries and entries that are not accompanied by the completed and required documentation will forfeit all associated fees.

8. If the information given on the entry from varies extensively from the entry inspected, in specification or value, the judges reserve the right to disqualify or re-categorise the entry without consultation with the builder.

9. If there is only one entry in a category, judges reserve the right to re-categorise the entry.

10. Should a minimum standard of excellence not be reached in any category, the judges reserve the right to re-categorise the entry or decline to present a category award.

11. Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence or review will be entered into by Master Builders.

12. Owner’s consent must be given for entry in the Awards for all entries (display homes excepted). Entries without a signed declaration will not be accepted. Where the property is tenanted, the owner is responsible for compliance with access requirements. Where the property has been built as the builder’s residence or investment property, this should be declared as it may impact on the price category allocation.

13. Any material supplied with the entry may be reproduced in media releases, publications, websites and other promotional material at the discretion of the Master Builders Association. The entrant indemnifies Master Builders against any claims in respect of copyright. Master Builders and associated media accept no responsibility for incorrect details, spelling or other incorrect information stated in the entry form.

14. Each builder will be notified in writing of the judging time and date for each project. It is the builder’s responsibility to confirm with the owners and obtain access for the judges. In the instance of not being able to obtain access, the entry will be automatically disqualified and the entry fee forfeited.

15. The builder must submit evidence of the final contract sum (including variations) for each entry inclusive of GST.

16. Award winners will NOT be disclosed until the announcement at the awards presentation on 29 August 2015.

17. The entrant may use success in the Awards for promotional purposes but agrees to adhere to high ethical standards in that promotion. Advertising and promotional activities must not be misleading or deceptive or likely to mislead or deceive consumers about the nature of the Award, nor represent themselves as a Master Builder award winner when they have not been the registered builder of that nominated award.

Without limiting this requirement, the registered builder agrees to be bound by the following: Pre-Awards promotion:

ª Until the Awards are officially announced at the Awards presentation on the 29 August 2015, the registered builder will not promote any unofficial or speculative success. However, entrants will be able to promote their finalist status prior to the presentation of the Awards on receipt of the finalist logo from Master Builders.

Correct use of logo for Winning & Finalist Entries: ª In display homes categories, signage must be restricted exclusively to the judged project.

Use of the Master Builders Bankwest Building Excellence Awards Logo (both Winners & Finalists) when in use across all forms of media presented to the general consumer must abide by the following guidelines:

ª In any promotion the exact award category and year of the award must be stated. ª Text setting out all requested detail must be a minimum of 100mm in height. ª Use of the logo must not be changed in any way, unless prior permission has been sought otherwise.

If the entrant breaches these requirements governing promotion, Master Builders may: ª Revoke the entrant’s award. ª Refuse the entrant entry in future awards. ª Bring possible breaches of the Trade Practices Act and the Fair Trading Act to the attention of the Australian Competition

and Consumer commission and the Department of Commerce. *For further explanation and examples please refer to the Logo Usage Guidelines for 2015.18. Display home entries must:

ª Be accompanied by the current price list of all inclusions for the home to full construction as displayed. ª Describe all optional specification items displayed in the home. ª State the as-displayed construction cost i.e.: do not include the cost of furniture, landscaping or any other items

that are not part of the building fabric. ª Include a letter or similar from the developer or local authority acknowledging that the dwelling is approved

for use as a designated display.19. Entrants must notify the Master Builders Association and withdraw any entries submitted for the 2015 Building

Excellence Awards if the business/company is placed into voluntary administration or receivership. This undertaking is binding up until the awards night ceremony on 29 August 2015. Master Builders advises that an award will be withdrawn if the business has been placed in administration and the Master Builders Association has not been notified.

20. The Master Builders Association can remove a nomination for any reason that may affect the reputation of or cause embarrassment to the Association or the building awards.
