The Encyclopedia of Creativity, Invention, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (CI2E)is a four-volume electronic and print reference that will uniquely cover the broadspectrum of topics relating to the process of creativity and innovation, from a widevariety of perspectives (e.g., economics, management, psychology, anthropology, policy,technology, education, the arts) and modes (individual, organization, industry, nation,region). The project is scheduled to complete bythe end of 2012, and will be comprised of some 300 topical entries, definitions ofkey terms and concepts, and 12-20 “keynote” or review essays, from a global array ofresearchers, business executives, policymakers, and artists, illuminating the many facets ofcreativity and innovation, and highlighting their relationships to such universal conceptsas knowledge management, economic opportunity, and sustainability. The Editors are looking to generate some 75 definitions/entries of approximately2,000-4,000 words apiece plus 3-5 longer (10-20 pp) essays for each section (Creativity,Invention, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship). The presentation style of the entries isinformational/educational; the entries should describe, define, synthesize, and review atopic, rather than showcase original theoretical or empirical research findings. Entriesmay featureelectronic supplementary materials, such as audio-visual presentations, and may beupdated after initial publication, to reflect the most current information and insights. In the 1990s, optical technology and photonics industry developed fast, but furtherprogress became difficult due to a fundamental limit of light known as the diffractionlimit. This limit could be overcome using the novel technology of nano-optics ornanophotonics in which the size of the electromagnetic field is decreased down to thenanoscale and is used as a carrier for signal transmission, processing, and fabrication. Sucha decrease beyond the diffraction limit is possible by using optical near-fields. The truenature of nano-optics and nanophotonics involves not only their abilities to meet theabove requirements but also their abilities to realize qualitative innovations in photonicdevices, fabrication techniques, energy conversion and information processing systems.The objective of this work is to review the innovations of optical science and technologyby nano-optics and nanophotonics. While in conventional optical science and technology,light and matter are discussed separately, in nano-optics and nanophotonics, light andmatter have to be regarded as being coupled to each other, and the energy flow betweennanoparticles is bidirectional. This means that nano-optics and nanophotonics have to beregarded as a technology fusing optical fields and matter.This unique work reviews and covers the most recent topics of nano-optics, applicationsto device operations, fabrication techniques, energy conversion, information processing,architectures and algorithms.
