After moving to California, Nigel Jones wanted to expose people to Jamaican culture through excellent tasting, locally sourced food. With Main Street Launch (then OBDC)'s help, Kingston 11 grew from a pop-up to a brick and mortar at 2270 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland. Cafe SantanaAfter 13 years of

roasting coffee at home, for neighbors, and at the Jack London

Square Farmers Market, Richard Santana decided

to open his own cafe. He initially used credit cards to finance construction.

His loan with Main Street Launch (then OBDC),

allowed him to pay down those cards and hire four

employees to staff the cafe. At Cafe Santana, it's all about the coffee. Their small batch roasting allows

customers to order and leave with a warm bag in

the same visit.

Kenny's Heart & Soul

In 2014, Kenny Stuckey, an Army veteran, decided he

wanted to launch a food truck. Now Kenny's Heart

& Soul is the only soul food truck in the Bay Area,

serving hundreds of custom-ers each week. "Kenny's

Heart & Soul is love on wheels. My dad's recipes

inspire us and our grounded, homespun approach is what our customers connect to,"

says Kenny.

"At the time, we got guidance from Main Street

Launch (then OBDC), and that was invaluable. The money let me complete

my vision, and the support made it possible for us to

start."

The idea for Noble Brewer began in September 2013 when owner Claude Burns and his Navy buddy discussed creating a homebrew competition. Now, Noble Brewer is the world's first online beer club to feature homebrewers.

"We launched the business on a good foundation partially because our loan from Veteran Launch (an affiliate of Main Street Launch) allowed us to plan for the future," says Claude.
