Mining: In 2002, mining and the production of construction materials ranked first and third among Hungary's industries. Hungary produced modest amounts of fossil fuels and industrial minerals, cement and coal being the dominant components of industrial minerals and mineral fuels. The country relied heavily on imported mineral raw materials. The GDP grew by 5.5% in 2000, while the value of output by the mining and processing sector declined by 10%.

Hungary agriculture: plays a major role in the economy of the country as 85% of the county is suitable for agricultural activities. The main factors responsible for the growth of Hungary's agriculture are fertile lands, availability of water and a favorable climate. Hungary has the highest amount of flowing water per resident. Hungary is also the major exporter of agricultural goods and food items and these earn a substantial amount of foreign exchange for the country. Hungarian agricultural fields occupy two-thirds of the total land area.

Only seven countries have won more Summer Olympic gold medals than Hungary. At the all time total medal count for Olympic Games, Hungary reaches the 9th ranking out of 211 participating nations, with a total of 465 medals.

Hungary has remarkable football history, having won three Olympic titles, finishing runners-up in the 1938 and 1954 FIFA World Cups, and third in the 1964 UEFA European Football Championship. Hungary revolutionized the sport in the 1950s, dominating international football with the remarkable Golden Team which included legends like Ferenc Puskás, top goalscorer of the 20th century, whom FIFA dedicated its newest award, the Puskás Award. The side of that era has the all-time highest Football Elo Ranking in the world, with 2166, and one of the longest undefeated runs in football history, remaining unbeaten in 31 games, spanning over more than 4 years and including matches such as the Match of the Century

Sailing Sailing is the most popular water sport on Lake Balaton after

swimming in Hungary. The competitions and races appeal mostly to skilled

competitors although the broad expanse of water is ideal for pleasure sailing as well.

The number of landing stages and marinas is moorings increasing year on year with in-expensive available along

the entire shore line.

Hungary and Real Madrid legend Ferenc Puskas has died at the age of 79.

Puskas, who was in hospital for six years with Alzheimer's disease, died in Budapest at 0600 GMT on Friday after suffering from a fever and pneumonia.

Puskas led Hungary's golden team of the early 1950s, before taking Spanish citizenship and becoming part of Real Madrid's all-conquering team.

Puskas scored 83 goals in 84 games for Hungary from 1945 to 1956 and later played for Spain in the 1962 World Cup
