These include high expectations for all students; ongoing collaboration among teachers to improve practice; targeted use of data to pinpoint challenges and monitor progress; continual intervention for struggling students; and mastery of content knowledge and pedagogical practices. We are proud of this honor and thank the CBEE for recognizing us again this year!

They sang one of the songs from Disney's Alice in Wonderland Jr. at “Rock the Oaks”, which supported our community and the kids of Oak Grove. Proceeds from “Rock the Oaks” event benefitted the Performing Arts and Autism Programs of Oak Grove Center. The students did a great job and had a lot of fun! Adopt-a-Classroom Thank you to the Bork Family for adopting Mrs. Harbour’s classroom. We appreciate your support of this class and our school!

Mrs. McLain Chosen as District Teacher of the Year Last week, we celebrated the announcement of Mrs. McLain as one of three district Teachers of the Year. She was the LJ Mails Teacher of the Year for 2012 – 2013, and she went through a process that included a classroom observation and panel interview in order to earn this district accolade. We are proud of this honor and thank Mrs. McLain for representing our school so well! Science Fair Winners We congratulate this year’s Science Fair winners! The process of developing a question of inquiry, forming a hypothesis, and conducting a formal experiment with concluding thoughts is challenging, but important. Announcements

TK/Kinder Registration Transitional Kindergarten will again be in place next year for students who do not make the cut-off for Kindergarten. Students must be five years old by 9/1/14 to be eligible for Kindergarten. Students with birthdays from 9/2/09 to 12/2/09 will be eligible for the TK class(es) which will be held in the morning. Our district is moving to an online registration system for this upcoming school year. You may call our office to be put on an email list and we will be emailing everyone on the list as soon as the system is live to register. Please check the district website for updates. If you are not an in-boundary LJM student, you will be required to turn in a transfer request and have that approved prior to registering for TK/Kindergarten. It is imperative that you move forward with that process right away to ensure your space. Please note that our Early Bird and Late Bird programs will continue next year and students will be placed in morning or afternoon classes based on age, with younger students in the morning. Exceptions will be made for students with child care needs. No one will be assigned Early Bird or Late Bird until we are secure in our numbers. Notification will likely occur in June. Immunization Update Effective January 1, 2014, parents who want to exempt their child from one or more required immunizations because of their personal beliefs must provide to the school:

A letter or affidavit requesting an exemption that states that the required immunization(s) are contrary to their beliefs AND A statement signed and dated by a health care practitioner and parent indicating that the practitioner has provided, and the parent has received, information about the benefits and risks of immunizations and the risks of vaccine-preventable diseases.

Celebrating Happiness…

Thank you to parent Maria Bailey and our new Library Tech, Mrs. Wallace,

for bringing a little happiness to our campus this week. In honor of

International Day of Happiness, we asked to students, staff, and parents to

share what makes them happy. We all enjoyed reading the declarations of

happiness, as much as writing them. Here are a few favorites:

I am happy because…

I have a great family and friends. It’s almost Spring Break. I’m alive. I love this school. I get to get a goldfish. I’m here at school with my best pals. I’m me. My dad is home. I have minecraft. My sister is finally home from the hospital. I have everything I need. My cousin was just born. I get to help the world. My mom gives me sweets. I passed out of Fast Math. I am able to do the Alice in Wonderland play. Life is awesome. I am a Monarch! We wish you a very HAPPY and safe Spring Break! Feel free to spread and celebrate the happiness!!!!

Please Support Our Procedures for Arrival and Pickup

Please be aware of our new procedures for 2014. Please review these with your child and emphasize the importance of meeting these new expectations:

Students waiting for their rides after school need to wait behind the yellow line and be seated until their ride arrives. Students should not be in the planters, and they should not be engaged in tag or chase. This is a big change for our students, but it will result in a safer and more orderly environment.

Parents, as you drive through the car loop, please be aware of our new, yellow numbered spaces. Please pull up to the yellow line to enable us to maximize our drop-off space.

We have started and will continue to enforce an 8:20 start time for students. Our front door will be closing promptly at 8:20 and all students who arrive after this time will be asked to sign in and get a tardy pass. Please adjust your morning routine to ensure that your child arrives on campus by 8:20. If your family continues to find your selves getting here right at the bell, leave ten minutes early or come at 8:00 AM. This will give your child time to play on the playground, and you will beat the worst of the traffic.

We know that these new rules will require some changes, but our goal is, as always, to create a safe and efficient campus. We truly appreciate your support in making some small changes that we feel will be of benefit to all! And, a reminder, please watch your speed at all times in the parking lot and anywhere in the school zone. It is essential that we model HEART in all ways for our children and do everything we can to keep all students safe!!!
