The weekend kicked off with a SLAMBUCA PARTY on the Friday evening and our premises here at Ferry Nab, were packed to the rafters with competitors enjoying the drinks supplied

by James Wright of Halewood International and the super canapés and SLAMBUCA’s (red Sambuca!) supplied by SLAM UK.

19th/20th /21st July 2013

The racing for real started at 11am on the Saturday morning with the North Sails Trophy Race. The windward / leeward course was set and the first fleet to get away were the mid-sized boats.

The Fleet

21’s a Plenty

Next away were the big boats combined with Sports boats. A diverse fleet with a beneteau 25, two First 30’s and two - oceanis 40’s. Then a horde of First 21’s, all vying to work their way through the fleets in front of them. david watkins and his team sailed the First 260 “diamond edge” really well to come in 1st overall and claim the North Sails Trophy.

race two was sponsored by those lovely people from ob Sailing Tuition & Charter. Neil & yvonne Crowder provide race Committee duties for

the weekend. They both give up valuable ob Sailing time, to help out with this event and we really appreciate their contribution, along with that of Lyn Gooch, a stalwart of the committee boat and multiple beneteau owner! This race was a triumph for long time beneteau regatta competitor, rod bulloughs and his team on the beneteau 25 “ridiculous”, this boat was the first new beneteau that Maiden Marine ever sold; 16 years ago, so we were really delighted to award rod the super ob Sailing trophy.

Racing over, the competitors returned ashore to apply after sun to their slightly pink faces; such a lovely change to have sunshine and breeze for this regatta and not a sacrifice to the weather gods in sight!! Saturday night we were all off to the super windermere Hydro Hotel for a fabulous buffet and entertainment from the “New Tricks band”. A really great evening was had by all. The buffet spread was amazing; a huge thanks to Ken and his team at the Hydro and Tony rothwell’s band were fantastic! Nice to see so many people dancing the night away!

Sunday dawned a little less windy, with another easterly breeze continuing to make the course challenging, for the competitors and race officers alike!

Navigators & General have, as usual, been hugely supportive to this regatta, they sponsored the third race. It was the bigger boats which dominated the Sunday racing with Tim & Jo Jones and their oceanis 311 Phoenix collecting the Navigators & General Silver Salver for race 3, with david watkins’ F260 “diamond edge” in second and david, Vicki & Jamie wilson in 3rd with their oceanis 343 “Killara”.

boats.com – the world’s most popular marine web site, sponsored the last race of the weekend and it was once again Tim & Jo Jones who triumphed, to take the lovely boats.com trophy to add to their N&G silver salver. david watkins repeated his second place and this time it was david & Fiona Priestly with their F25.7 who “Fast Forwarded” into third!

back to Maiden Marine for a late bbQ lunch on the slipway, with yet more Pimms and Tsingtao beer, then the prize giving ceremony. In addition to the major event sponsors SLAM clothing UK, we should mention in particular Navigators & General, boats.com, yachtworld.com, North Sails, Harken, dubarry, optimum Time & Halewood International, who have all been extremely generous with prizes, as have many of our chandlery suppliers, So a BIG Thanks to all our sponsors, without whom this event would be very dull!

Overall Fleet Results

There is such great camaraderie amongst this Beneteau fleet, chuck in a weekend chock full of sunshine and some breeze and it is amazing to see how much fun everyone has!

The quality of the racing in the fleet improves every year. The competitors (and sponsors) are all so enthusiastic about the event, both ashore and afloat, they really should all get “Spirit of the Event” awards, we are proud that this makes our Beneteau Cup Regatta special!
