Governor for developing SMVDCoN ascentre of excellence in nursing education

KAKRYAL, Feb 24: Thelamp lighting and oath takingceremony of the 1st batch of B.Sc. Nursing students of ShriMata Vaishno Devi College ofNursing (SMVDCoN), Kakryal,was held here today.
Governor N. N. Vohra,Chairman of the Shri MataVaishno Devi Shrine Board, wasthe chief guest.
Usha Vohra, First Lady; Dr.S. S. Bloeria, Dr. Ashok Bhan,Shri H. L. Maini and Maj. Gen.(Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma,Board Members; Prof. SanjeevJain, Vice Chancellor, Shri MataVaishno Devi University and Dr.M. K. Bhandari, Commissioner,Health and Medical Educationwere present on the occasion.
Speaking at the function, theGovernor observed that after theestablishment of the Shri MataVaishno Devi Gurukul, ShriMata Vaishno Devi Universityand Shri Mata Vaishno DeviNarayana SuperspecialityHospital, Kakryal, the establish-ment of the Nursing College isyet another significant contribu-tion of the Shrine Board towardsthe development of Katra and itsadjoining area.
Lauding the satisfactoryfunctioning of the NursingCollege, the Governor under-scored the crucial need for allstakeholders increasing theirefforts on a sustained basis todevelop this institution as a frontrank institution in nursing andresearch. He stressed on theFaculty and the students of theCollege to continuously updatetheir knowledge and make themaximum possible use of theLibrary and the Laboratory andother facilities to advance theircareers.
Referring to the lamp light-ing and oath taking ceremony,the Governor observed that this
is an important occasion forevery nursing student particular-ly as it marks a commitment ofthe nurse to adhere to the highestprofessional values and stan-dards. He further observed thatthe attachment of this collegewith the prestigious Shri MataVaishno Devi NarayanaSuperspeciality Hospital is aprivilege for this institution.
The Governor asked the CEOof the Shrine Board, A.K Sahu,to ensure that the School ofArchitecture and Planning, NewDelhi, timely finalize the MasterPlan of the area adjoining theSuperspeciality Hospital so thatan autonomous complex for theCollege of Nursing could beestablished very early, to be fol-lowed by the establishment ofthe proposed Medical College.He directed CEO to ensure thatthe under construction additionalblock of Nurses Hostel was com-pleted well before the admissionof the 2nd batch of students tothe College.
The Governor released thefirst issue of 'Dhatri', the quar-terly Newsletter of theSMVDCoN, which was broughtout to mark the occasion of thelamp lighting and oath takingceremony of the 1st batch of thestudents of this College.
In his welcome address, Maj.Gen. (Retd) Shiv KumarSharma, Member of the ShrineBoard and Chairman of the
Governing Body of SMVDCoN,gave details of the achievementsof the college in academics andco-curricular activities in thepast seven months of its func-tioning. He said that the classesfor the second Semester com-menced last month and theprocess for the admission of the2nd batch of B.Sc. NursingStudents (Session 2017-18)would commence in April 2017.
The lamp lighting and oathtaking ceremony of the Collegewas attended by members of theGoverning Body of the NursingCollege which included ChiefExecutive Officer of the ShrineBoard and Dr. V. Verma, Dean,Shri Mata Vaishno DeviUniversity. Dr. M. K. Kumar,Additional CEO of the Boardalso attended.
Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principalof the Nursing College, admin-istered the oath to the studentsand presented a vote of thanks.
Among those present on theoccasion were Dr. (Brig.) JAMMU, Feb 24: DirectorGeneral of Police (DGP), Dr. S.P. Vaid today visited GulshanGround and took review ofarrangements of 28th PolicePublic Mela being held onFebruary 26.
Dr. Vaid, while inspecting thevenue, discussed about the spaceallotted to different stall holdersfor displaying their products forthe sale to the public. He wastold that more than 51 stalls wereestablished by different units ofthe organization, who havereached here with their products.Besides police units, some otherdepartments and organizationsare establishing their stalls at thevenue, which include PrisonsDepartment and BALGRANCharitable Home. RBI is alsoestablishing a stall at the venuefor creating awareness amongthe visitors about investments.
DGP asked the members ofManagement Committees toensure quality of products, beingdisplayed for sale, on reasonablerates to the customers. He saidthat rate list should be displayedat all stalls for convenience ofthe public.
He was informed thatTechnical Education Department
is also conducting a vocationaltraining stall at the venue, de-addiction and Jan Dhan Yojanastalls would also be part of theMela. Besides, some entertain-ment programmes, like folkdance, stage shows, tambola andchildren competitions have alsobeen included in the daylongevent.
DGP discussed police ban-dubast, security and trafficarrangements put in place for themega event. He was told that acomprehensive traffic plan hasbeen finalized and parking slotshave been identified on variouspoints outside the venue. TheDGP was informed that strictsecurity arrangements have beenput in place at the venue toensure safety of visitors.
He expressed his satisfactionover the arrangements made bythe management and stressed forclose coordination among thedifferent committees to make theevent a success. He disclosedthat the event would be inaugu-rated at 10.30 a.m. and raffledraw for 8969 prizes would beheld at the venue at 4 p.m. in thepresence of public.
Earlier, AIG (Welfare), Dr.Haseeb Mughal, who wasaccompanying the DGP apprisedabout the various aspect of theMela and the arrangements madefor smooth conduct of the megaevent.

JAMMU, Feb 24: Policeworked out the theft case ofMannapuram Gold LoanCompany with the arrest of twopersons including AssistantBranch Head of the companyalong with stolen gold orna-ments worth over Rs 15.174
crore.This was disclosed by
Inspector General of Police(IGP) Jammu Dr SDS Jamwalwhile interacting with mediapersons, here today.
Giving details of the case,IGP said that on February 20,Head of Mannapuram GoldLoan Company namely PankajChib, son of Suram Singh, aresident of Roop Nagar Enclavelodged a complaint with policepost Bhatindi stating that someunidentified persons bargedinto the company’s branch atMalik Market and decampedwith gold ornaments worthcrores and cas.
Acting over the complaint, acase under relevant Sectionswas registered at Trikuta Nagarpolice station and investigationstarted.
“During the course of inves-tigation, police picked upAssistant Branch Head SunilKumar and during questioninghe broke down and confessed to
commit the theft along with histwo associates including formeremployee of the bank. On hisdisclosure, police conductedraid in Punjab and arrested theformer employee of the compa-ny, who has been identified asSangram Singh”, Jamwalinformed.
During further investiga-
tion, the accused disclosed thathow they planned and hackedconspiracy at Punjab to committheft in the company’s branch atMalik Market along with theirone more associate, who wasknown to Sangram Singh, IGPsaid, after coming from Punjab,the trio commit theft with thehelp of duplicate keys, whichSangram had made, when hewas working in the company.
Police recovered the stolen10.230 kilograms gold worthRs 15,174,455 on the disclosureof the arrested accused, IGPsaid, adding that hunt is goingon to arrest their associate, whois still at large.

JAMMU, Feb 24: Like otherparts of the country, MahaShivratri was celebrated acrossJammu and Kashmir with reli-gious fervour and enthusiasm.
The auspicious occasion,which is celebrated to markmythological marriage of LordShiva with Goddess Parvati, wit-nessed prayers in temples withdevotees offering water onShivlingam, taking out religiousprocessions and organizing ofLangars etc.
Since the wee hours today,there was heavy rush of devoteesin all the prominent Shiv temples.
People from different agegroups, including children, youngand elders, thronged the Shivtemples for paying obeisance andoffering water mixed with milkon the holy Shivlingam. Thedevotees especially offered Baeland Bael Patri (Golden Apple andits leaves) to Lord Shiva whilechanting 'Om Namah Shivaya'.All the Shiv temples were welldecorated for the occasion.Several devotees also observedfast.
In Jammu, huge rush was wit-nessed at Ranbireshwar Temple,Peer Kho near Tawi and AapShambhu at Roop Nagar, whichwere specially decorated for theoccasion. Through out the day,
devotees kept visiting these tem-ples to seek divine blessings ofLord Shiva.
The devotees were seen wait-ing in queues for their turn toreach near the Shivlingam forpaying obeisance and offeringwater with flowers.
To facilitate the devotees, theadministration had also madeelaborate arrangements besidesensuring adequate securityaround the temples to ensurepeaceful conduct of religious cel-ebration. Rajouri, Doda, Shiv Khori inReasi, Udhampur and Kathua etc,also said that Maha Shivratri wit-nessed heavy rush of devotees inthe historic Shiv temples amidstreligious fervour and enthusiasm.
At Shiv Khori, the annualMaha Shivratri festival was cele-brated with religious fervor andenthusiasm. The event began withhistoric live telecast of Aarti fol-lowed by cultural programmes atRansoo. District DevelopmentCommissioner Reasi, RavinderKumar was also present on theoccasion along with others. Overone lakh devotees have visited theholy cave so far and the Yatra wasgoing on smoothly on the secondday of mela.
Along the route and at thebase camp Ransoo, severalLangars and Bhandaras were alsoarranged for pilgrims by ShivKhori Mandlis. The other impor-tant events for the festival includ-
ed cultural panorama, Tandavdance organized by InformationDepartment, Bhajans by ChamanLehri Group, Kud by KapoorSingh and Party from Bakkal,Lambi Bhaak by local people ofRansoo and adjoining areas. Over
28 different departmental stallswere also established for provid-ing awareness to the people.Historic Mahadev temple inReasi also witnessed heavy rushof devotees on the day.
Mahashivratri festival wasalso held at historic KameshwarShiv Temple in Akhnoor whereDeputy Chief Minister Dr NirmalSingh, Minister for Forests andEcology, Choudhary Lal Singh,Minister for Industries andCommerce, Chander ParkashGanga, Vice Chairman KissanWelfare Board D S Chib,Legislators, Sat Sharma, RajivSharma and Dr Krishan Lal,Mahant Rameshwar Dass, promi-nent citizens of the area and sen-ior officers of various depart-ments were also present and paidtheir obeisance.
Reports from Bhaderwah inDoda said that devotees throngedthe historical Gupt Ganga Templesince early in the morning wheremain function in connection withMaha Shivratri was organized.Special arrangements were madein all the Shiv temples of Dodadistrict, particularly ancient Gupt-Ganga temple near Jai RoadBhaderwah and Shiv templeLingah Gatha, where heavy rushof devotees was witnessedthroughout the day.
A "Jaagran" was also beingobserved in Gupt Ganga Temple,where a large number of devoteesfrom the area sung devotionalsongs in praise of Lord Shiva.

historic Balkeshwar Shiv templein Billawar, Panjtirthi temple,Mahanalla and Airma templeswitnessed rush of devotees of onthe occasion of Maha Shivratri.All these religious places werewell decorated for the special
occasion and the temple doorswere kept open since 3 a.m tofacilitate the devotees and controlthe rush.
In Udhampur, DistrictAdministration organized one dayannual Mahashivratri cum ruralawareness fair in collaborationwith Destitute and HandicappedWelfare Association (DAHWA)and Mela Committee Khoon inthe premises of Khooneshwar AapShambhu Temple, KhoonMajalta. MLA Ramnagar, RanbirSingh Pathania was the chiefguest on the occasion. ChairmanDAHWA, S S Sumbria threwlight on the historical and reli-gious importance of the temple,having its connection with thePandvas and the famous lakes ofMansar and Surinsar. Various cul-tural programmes were alsoorganized by InformationDepartment and JK Academy ofArt Culture and Languages. Later,a Bhandara was also organized onthe occasion.
In Kishtwar, Maha Shivratrifestival witnessed huge rush ofdevotees at Gori Shankar MandirSarkoot and other temples whereBhandaras were also organized. Inrural areas, people prepared`Tilluru', a traditional dish of dis-trict Kishtwar, which was distrib-uted among own relatives, nearsand dears.
Historic temples ofUttervahini and Purmandal inSamba district also witnessedhuge rush of devotees on the occa-sion of Maha Shivratri.
People protest against opening of bar, block road for 3 hrs

MENDHAR, Feb 24: Thepeople from Mendhar townand some adjoining villageslike Darana, Kalaban and Aritoday held protest demonstra-tion against the opening ofliquor bar and restaurant in thetown here and blockedMendhar-Jammu road for aboutthree hours.
A large number of people ofthe town and also from theadjoining villages, led byImam of a local Masjid, MuftiHaq Nawaz, assembled at mainchowk Mendhar at around10.15 am and started protestdemonstration. They blockedMendhar -Jammu road by rais-ing barricades and startedprotest dharna shouting slogansagainst local Administrationand District Administration,Poonch and the police.
The people alleged that abar and restaurant has beenopened in violation of standingnorms. Despite the directionsfrom the Deputy CommissionerPoonch few months back, it hasagain been made operationalwith the support of localadministration/ police. Thepeople alleged that it has beenallowed to operate adjoining areligious place and a school.
The movement of vehicleswas disrupted for about three
hours and a massive traffic jamwas created in the town. SHOMendhar rushed to the site butthe people refused to lift dharnafrom the road. They continuedtheir strong protest demonstra-tion.
Later, SDM Mendhar,Rahul Yadav and SDPOShahid Nahiem reached thespot and they talked to the agi-tating people. The peopledemanded that DC shouldcome himself to give assuranceand then they will lift dharnabecause his order is being vio-lated here. After the direct talkof the Imam with the DC onphone from the dharna sitethrough SDM, the people thenlifted dharna. The DC assuredthat by March 7, the operationof the bar and restaurant willbe stopped.
The SDPO when contactedsaid that the case is pending inthe High Court and they areoperating on the court direc-tive. The Police has no role intoit. The owner has been givenlicense by the State ExciseDepartment and he is payinglicense fee to the Govt. Thematter has to be decided at thehigher level, the SDPO added.

Gani Lone, Minister for SocialWelfare, ARI & Trainings andScience & Technology, calledon Governor N.N. Vohra at theRaj Bhavan.
Lone informed theGovernor about several issuesrelating to the execution of var-ious State and Central Schemeswhich are being executed by thedepartments and agencies underhis charge. He also acquaintedthe Governor about the progressachieved in respect of severalinitiatives which were taken byhim after taking over his presentresponsibilities.
Governor urged Lone to per-sonally review the implementa-tion of each of the State andCentral Schemes in the entiresocial welfare sector and alsotake urgent steps to review StateActs and Rules dealing withalleviating the lot of personswith disabilities, particularly formaking them more user friendly.
Governor also advised Loneto take time-bound steps toensure that the provisions ofCentral Disability Act, 2016 areadopted in toto as a new StateAct or incorporated in the exist-ing State Act so that the personswith disabilities are provided allrequired support and facilitieswithout any delay.
The Governor recalled thathe had already advised ChiefMinister Mehbooba Mufti inthis regard and hoped that thismatter will receive urgent atten-tion. Further, as suggested byLone the Governor hadaddressed the Union Ministerfor Social Justice &Empowerment, Thaawar ChandGehlot, and requested his earlyhelp in regard to certain pendingmatter.

JAMMU, Feb 24: In a raredistinction for Jammu andKashmir cadre IAS officer , ChiefElection Commissioner (CEC) ofIndia, Dr Naseem Zaidi haspicked Chief Electoral Officer(CEO), Jammu and KashmirShantmanu to represent him onWorld Conference of CECs of allthe countries, being held atGeorgia on February 27 and 28.
Shantmanu along with AndhraPradesh Chief Electoral OfficerBhanwar Lal will represent theCEC at the annual WorldConference of CECs at Georgia asDr Naseem Zaidi was unable toattend the conference in view ofongoing Uttar Pradesh Assemblyelections, which has been a tough
challenge for the ElectionCommission of India.
While Andhra Pradesh CEOBhanwar Lal is the senior mostCEO in the country, Shantmanuhas been picked up for his effi-ciency and dedication in the work.
There are a total of 36 ChiefElectoral Officers in the countryand, of them, only two have beenpicked up on the basis of their vastexperience and knowledge to rep-resent the CEC at the global con-ference, sources said.
Shantmanu has left for NewDelhi and would depart forGeorgia tomorrow.
The World Conference ofCECs would debate the electoralreforms and other major electionrelated issues during the two-dayconference at Georgia.

JAMMU, Feb 24: Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs(FCS&CA) Department booked 26 traders and recovered Rs23,000 fine from the defaulters.
As per official spokesman, on the occasion of MahaShivratri, a special squad headed by Joginder Singh, AssistantDirector (Enforcement) FCS&CA along with Inspector RamanKumar, Naresh Gupta and Yogesh Kumar visisted Janipur,Bantalab, Muthi, Barnai, Paloura, Toph Sherkhania, Talab Tilloand Canal Road areas and checked 11 establishments includingvegetable shops, meat shops, sweat shops, general stores, restau-rants and dhabas, etc.
During checking, the team booked 26 traders under variousacts viz EC Act 1956, J&K Display of Price and Stocks ofScheduled Essential Commodities Order, 1990, LPG (Regulationof supply and distribution) Order 200 and a fine of Rs 23,000 wasrealized on spot from the defaulters.
