DANELLE BOHANE

Kate has had her fair share of experimenting in different disciplines but a creative future seemed set in stone from an early age. Her indefatigable artistic talent continued to surface and when she returned to New Zealand after years travelling, she bought her first computer. Producing her own wedding invitation led to the opening of her business, Ruby & Willow Design Studio. Building on the immense success of her Magnolia Rouge blog, Kate as the editor in chief of {MAG}rouge is the key to the uncompromising aesthetic and inspiration of the magazine.

editor in chief &art director

After gaining qualifications in History Jasmine took up an IT career, though she never forgot her youthful dreams of winning amateur photo competitions. Finally she understood her true calling: photography and art. Having always had a combined passion for photography with her dear friend Hannah, from their days in the art room at high school, they founded Sutherland Kovach Studio, and the rest is history! Their mission is to create a beautiful sweet world through their images. Jasmine is also crazy about her small daughter and the domestic arts.

CARMEN & INGOPHOTOGRAPHY

Hannah’s interest in photography dates back to her childhood when at an early age she became obsessed with discovering how the 3D world could be transferred to paper through a magic box. After completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Elam she worked in the BBC’s Picture Publicity Dept and on the set of Harry Potter 6 in the photography department. In 2008 she returned home and joined forces with her one of her oldest, dearest and most visionary friends Jasmine, in the successful enterprise of Sutherland Kovach Studio.

picture editor & photographer

Judit started her adult life as an economist and marketer in her home country of Hungary. After marrying and having two beautiful girls, she travelled the world, finally stopping at the farthest corner of it in a place called New Zealand. It was here where she finally realized that her best recipe for success would be her culinary skills, sweet tooth, art and craft and marketing talent, and went on to form her business, Artisan Cakes. She still delights clients worldwide, this time not with her incisive ad campaigns but delicious treats from her cake kitchen.

Luke&NicolaCOATESVILLE | AUCKLAND

PHOTOGRAPHY BY DANELLE BOHANE

After adding Luke to her facebook friends in error (thinking he was another Luke!) and discovering how cute he was, Nicola had to figure out a reason that she would need to meet with him, so after a bit of research she came up with a legitimate idea and basically the rest is history.

Skip forward four years and Luke had come up with an elaborate plan for the proposal. A relaxing spa treatment was followed by Nicola being kidnapped by Luke's friends in disguise as masked hoodlums! This eventually led to a beach where Nicola followed signs to a beautifully decorated cove, complete with flowers, champagne and bunting strung up - that he'd impressively made himself. After the big question was asked, and she had excitedly said yes, all their friends and family popped out from nearby bushes to celebrate with them.

After a ceremony in the city, Luke & Nicola headed out to the Coatesville for their reception. Under the most perfect blue skies on a bitterly cold day this southern winter, they snuck into the forest for their photos just as the sun began to set.

Page 7: {MAG}rouge Mini Issue 1
Page 8: {MAG}rouge Mini Issue 1

"The main thing we focused on, was the experience for our guests. Creating an environment that was social, celebratory and fun. Luke and I both pride ourselves on doing things a little differently, but also, we wanted to put people at the centre of the entire day."

"We decided to keep the

ceremony short & sweet

and make the reception the best party we could possibly conjure."

The couple chose to have a stand-up cocktail party for their

reception, with food and drink on hand throughout the night.

Special tabled areas were set up for families, and chairs were brought out for everyone during

the speeches.

As a designer it was important for Luke that the ‘branding’ of

everything was purposeful and flowed from start to finish. From

their wedding stationery right through to the sweet pea seeds

they gave to their guests.

"We loved the idea of a whimsical winter wedding - low light, cool temperatures, and the raft of winter foods we could choose. And also, it meant I could have a long sleeved dress... I'd always wanted something classic with a difference and knew winter was the perfect season to work this dress I loved."

Luke & Nicola put so much into making thewedding their own. Starting with Luke making all the furniture himself, from the trestle tables to the bench seats and coffee tables. Hours were spent sourcing the right products, and ensuring it was truly a reflection of them as a couple. Having creative control over the venue certainly helped them achieve this. With the blank canvas it presented them they could decorate it as they pleased, from start to finish.

"We decided what was most important to us and that was the people. It was a communal celebration. Everyone had such a fun time, and we got to speak to people throughout the entire night, not stuck behind a bridal table."

argot and Brian were working at different offices of the same company in New Zealand, when by chance they were both offered secondments to the Amsterdam office at the same time.

Although they hadn't seen each other for a year, Brian tracked down Margot's apartment and was standing on the footpath outside as soon as she arrived in Amsterdam. Seven years and two Dutch born children later they're still there, and after a surprise proposal in the Canary Island, it was in Holland they decided to get married.

Sharing a love of good food and wine, it was important to the couple that this was a big feature on the day. Any suggestion of a buffet would have had Margot putting her foot down! Putting their faith in their caterers, they wanted to treat their guests to something special and with delicacies on the menu such as fois gras 'on the rocks' and slow cooked lamb, it would seem they did just that.

For eighteen months prior, Margot and Brian spent many an hour on DIY projects for the wedding day, ensuring it was a personal experience for their guests who had travelled from all over the world. This included making every guest a boutonniere or a wrist corsage, bow ties for the groom, best-man, and their son who acted as ring bearer. Each guest received a personalized letter telling them how much they meant to the couple.

met for the very first time at her sister’s wedding in San Miguel, California. Even though her sister had warned Steve to stay away from Jane, the moment they met “they were instantly glued at the hip”! Sometimes sisters don`t always know best!

With Amsterdam being a haven for all things antique, they spent many an hour fossicking through vintage goodies and collecting fun things for their guests to do whilst they were having their photos taken. This all helped to add to the vintage garden party look they had asked their guests to dress for.

The DressMargot fell in love with Delphine Manivet's designs after perusing countless wedding blogs for inspiration. So it was to Paris where she ditched Brian and the kids to head to the Delphine Manivet boutique and chose the dress of her dreams. She originally had no intentions of wearing a veil but after a horrified reaction from her Gran upon learning this, it became a last minute addition.

It took a bit of work on Brian's part to get Margot to agree to a ceremony. She had been all for eloping, but with the difficult decision of whether to get married in New Zealand or The Netherlands in front of them, it was finding their venue that sealed the deal.

After jokingly telling Brian it was De Librije or nothing, it was a stroke of luck to then find out that they could hold the ceremony at De Kassen van Eef - one of their vegetable suppliers which was perfect! As a working glasshouse, it was rustic and messy but full of the most amazing produce to help set the perfect scene.

At the end of the day we decided that we wanted to be surrounded by our closest friends and family so it was really special to us to have our most loved of loved in one place at one time!

Jane & Jon spent a lot of time giving their attention to all the parts that would come together to make up their special day and truly put their stamp on it. Once the venue was found, the theme was born and it all came together from there. As musicians, naturally music played a big part and they ensured there would be lots of good music and plenty of dancing which made for a 'fuuuunn wedding' as Jane described it.

The couple came up with a theme of 'HummingWolf' based on the symbolism of the humming bird and the wolf and incorporated it into everything they did. The logo they designed was woven throughout the details of the day, even down to recording a duet album called HummingWolf which they gave to each of their guests. They then performed the title track from the album at the reception and plan to record a new album every year on their anniversary.

Page 63: {MAG}rouge Mini Issue 1

The couple chose Beloftebos as their venue; with it's magnificent grove of majestic oak trees it offered both beautiful daytime surroundings as well as a dramatic evening ambiance, with lights throughout the trees making for a magical feeling. It offered them a place to have a beautiful, moving ceremony and then move onto a wild and fun evening with plenty of dancing - all without having to transport guests between locations.
