History

magman is a company that is singularly focused on the English language education industry and it’s derivations.

The principals of magman have a combined teaching experience of twenty years; ten years in Australia and latterly, ten years in China. Not only as teachers, the principals have been and still are core curriculum developers for a variety of educational purposes.

In it’s decade of teaching in China, magman has firmly positioned itself as a leader in English tuition in the Upper Middle and Affluent socio-economic strata’s of Chinese society.

Often called upon as television guests to provide insight into a variety of educational topics; also, magman is associated with some of China’s preeminent magazines as English language consultants.

magman has been called upon to give a variety of presentations to large groups in universities and corporations on a variety of educational and culture related issues.

English Language Tutor

magman’s core business is the provision of the highest possible quality of English language tuition. Ninety-seven percent of magman’s students remain as students, many for several years; those that leave do so because they have been accepted in a foreign school or have received a career-promotion that requires them leaving the city magman teaches in, Guangzhou.

magman instructs in all areas of the English language; specifically, speaking, reading, listening and writing; all encapsulated in a methodology that teaches the student to think in English. We make no allowance for the fact that the student is Asian (Chinese) when teaching, other than in the areas of vocabulary development; we apply the same teaching techniques as would be experienced in a western school. magman places great importance on writing, believing that the way a person writes is the way they think and is therefore the way they speak.

magman recognizes that confidence lays at the heart, and is the foundation, for improvement in any field; particularly in the mastery of a foreign language like English. The greater the success, the greater the confidence; the magman approach to teaching allows each student to rapidly enjoy success; their confidence increases as does their enjoyment and enthusiasm for the language and learning in general.

Character Development

Interdependent with the English language tuition is an ingredient of personal character development. Politeness, decision making, courage in the face of mistakes, filial respect, diligence and gregariousness are some of the traits that magman instills in it’s students, adult and child alike.

The modern Chinese education system does not imbue it’s students with any form of personal development; likewise, modern Chinese parents are generally caught up in the pursuit of wealth so that they have little time to instill vital life-skills in their children that will set the child apart in later life.

magman takes a holistic responsibility to it’s teaching role believing that education should target not only academic ingredients but also those intangible attributes that differentiate the educated and cultured from others not so fortunate.

This is primarily an oral course that will introduce Western cultural elements and how foreigners think about the topics you will study; also, you will learn what to say in specific situations. The work book is bilingual.

The student will be introduced to the concept, and be taught how to translate thoughts into words. You will explore high level pronunciation skills, learn how to structure sentences and learn effective communicative grammar among many other important English ingredients.

High advanced is the classification of this course; wherein, the student is exposed to, discusses and writes about sixteen different countries; a student successfully completing this course will have an equivalent English language skill as a Native English Speaker.

This course is designed for those young students that have little more than a basic level of English. The end result of this program is to rapidly empower the student with communication skills to a level that he/she cancomfortably communicate in a manner that will, equally as rapidly, witness an increase in English confidence. Ingredients of the level include the application of basic English communicative grammar, reading and comprehension and vocabulary.

Intermediate in level, the student is introduced to a more difficult level of vocabulary and grammar enveloped in topics that they need to be conversant in; particularly the cultures and history of some foreign cultures and individuals of note. On completition of this program the student is able to converse, read, comprehend and write at a level that would allow them to easily communicate with most Native English Speakers on a broad range of intermediate topics.

An interesting course with a lot of new English adventures confronts the student.

The topics, vocabulary and demands placed on the student envelopes them in a High Advanced English environment. Topics to be mastered are contemporary, historic, and essential if one is to converse with Native English Speakers adults at a level that is to impress. Only students that are of an advanced level, highly motivated and goal-orientated are qualified to undertake this book. The vocabulary is equitable to high-level Native Speaking, as is the writing and conversational skills.

What happens if a student can not get to a class?

In the case of a multi-student class, there are no make-up classes or refunds for an individual student who misses a class.
