Project Perspective
Training
Project Perspective – Creating a project / version
A new project is created by selecting a process mode and alloy type
Training
Project Perspective – “right mouse button” functions
Training
Geometry Perspective – Geometry Import
Separate and Export CAD file into formats supported by MAGMA5
Training
Geometry Perspective – Geometry Separation before Import
Separate and Export CAD file into formats supported by MAGMA5
CAD name Material assign
Training
Geometry Perspective – Material Selection
Select material and click on to add it to the “material list”.
Training
Geometry Perspective – Material Assignment
Select volume and drag & drop it on the respective material or drag & drop the material on the respective volume.
Each material ID can be named individually. Double-click: Material ID becomes editable.

Training
Mesh Perspective
Training
Mesh Perspective – Number of Elements
Option A:Mesh generation based on the number of elements
Training
Mesh Perspective – Minimal Wall Thickness
Option B:Enter the minimal wall thickness.
The software tries to automatically generate walls with 2-3 mesh elements.
Training
Mesh Perspective – Single Parameter Set
Option C:Single Parameter Set
Generate a mesh for the entire geometry based on parameters that can be defined here.
(MS4.4: wall thickness) sets the minimal step size to browse the geometry in the first step of the mesh generation process.
This is the number of subdivisions into which an area, that is found after the first mesh generation step, is to be subdivided.
Defines the smallest allowed thickness of the thinnest mesh layer.
Specifies the maximum size ratio neighboring elements are allowed to have.
Specifies the maximum aspect ratio all elements are allowed to have.
Training
Mesh Perspective – Multiple Parameter Sets
Option D:Different parameter sets for different areas / materials
Use the “right mouse button” or the “drag & drop” method to add a material to a parameter set.
Use to create another parameter set.
Use to delete a parameter set.
Use to rename a parameter set.
Training
Mesh Perspective – Mesh Quality
Mesh Quality Check
The result “Mesh Quality” shows where and how many elements have not been ideally meshed.
Many elements that are positioned diagonally across from each other (edge-edge, yellow) can lead to inaccuracies in the simulation.
A single layer of elements inside the part can be critical.
Training
Definition Perspective – Casting Process
Training
Definition Perspective – Material Definitions
Open the different definition areas with a double-click or with the right mouse button.
Double-click on an input window to open the database.
Double-click or OK selects a material.
Double-click on a parameter to edit it.
See: File / Open Database
Double-click selected dataset to view / edit
Training
Definition Perspective – Material Definitions
Right mouse click on the column header and select “column dialog” to show additional parameters.
For HTC
Training
Definition Perspective – HTC Definitions
All typical material matches are predefined by MAGMASOFT via the “Automatic HTC Template” function. These can be edited individually. You can also create your own template, which you can use for your future projects.
See: File / Open Automatic HTC Template Definition
Precise error description
This symbol shows that something isn't right here. The simulation can still be started.
This symbol shows that something is missing or incorrect. The simulation cannot be started.
Training
Definition Perspective – Casting Process Definition
For each process step you can open a dialog with a double click in the navigator, header or in the process diagram.
Training
Definition Perspective – Pouring Time or Pressure Curve
Select pouring using Pouring Time orPressure Curve
Input the value here
Training
Definition Perspective – Solidification & Cooling Definition
Define when to stop Solidification simulation.Select either Temperature of selected material or Time only
Training
Definition Perspective – Solidification & Cooling Definition
Define when to Shake Out from Sand after cooling simulation
You can define the point in time
Alternatively you can use the temperature of a material or a temperature at a thermocouple as a reference for the Shake Out event.
Training
Definition Perspective – Result Definitions
Some additional results can be ordered.
These results can also be defined for a result sequence.(5%, 10%, 15% ...)
Create or remove additional conditions using the right mouse button. (see next page)
Double-click to edit conditions.(see next page)
Typical results are automatically ordered for the different process steps.
Training
Definition Perspective – Result Definitions, Store the Result
Defining a result sequence within the same interval.
Creating a list of results for any points in percentage or time.
Defining temperature conditions for which results will be calculated / stored on disc.
Training
Definition Perspective – Result Definitions
In Result Preparation, you can determine for which results you want to create a Cache result.
Training
Definition Perspective – Simulation Settings
Additional functions can be switched on/off in “Simulation Settings. Some are also automatically activated by the program when certain functions have been defined in the corresponding dialogs.
Attention! The “prepare results” function can only be switched on/off in “Simulation Settings”!
Training
Simulation Control Perspective
Controlling and influencing a running simulation
Switch to see the online information during a simulation run.
Switch to the online curves during a simulation run.
Halt the display of online information.
Only show error messages of the online information.

Training
Result Perspective – Selecting Results
Step 3:Select the result from the list and double-click on it or drag & drop it into the result window.
Step 2:Double-click or use the + symbol to open the result tree.
Step 1:In the “Materials” tab select all materials for which you want to display results.
Step 4:
Use to move to the next entry
or to move to the previous entry in the list.
Training
