Day 1: welcome to Lapland! Transfer (abt. 1h) in a private minibus to your rustic accommodation, located in the town of Korpikylä, a rural settlement on the shore of the Tornio River, 35 km north of Haparanda. During your holiday you will live in the Hulkoffgården farm, run by the lovely couple Pia and Kurt Hulkoff. The complex includes a typical restaurant, placed in the former granary, which has been mentioned in the White Guide (Sweden’s equivalent of the Michelin guide) for several years straight. The menu is based on local ingredients, chiefly the organic beef that is grown with love in the farm itself! Lodging is in double rooms within the villa (single usage available for a supplement). The charming house, located 100m away from the restaurant, has been renovated recently, and is decorated with taste. Toilets and showers are usually shared with at least another room. One of the rooms has once hosted His Majesty the King of Sweden during one of his hunting tours – the King’s room, which has its own toilet, is available for a supplement. A welcome dinner will be served in the restaurant. During the dinner, our leaders will explain you the tour schedule, and will be available to answer any queries and questions you may have. Depending on conditions, we may be able to start our first aurora observation session.

Day2: huskies.After breakfast, ourprofessional photographic guidewill hold aworkshoponnorthern lightsphotography (approx.1h),with theaimofpreparingyou for takingpictures inthisveryspecialpartoftheworld.We’llalsotryonyourarcticgear(overalls,boots,gloves,etc.),whichyouwillbeabletousethroughoutthejourney.
Onceready,we’lldepartforahusky safari, a fantastic experience amidst silence and nature!Transfer(approx.1h)tothehuskyfarm,ownedbyalovelylocalladycalledUlla.Thedogswillhowlandbarkwhenyouarrive–thisisnotmenacing,butratherasignthattheywanttostartthe safari – this is what they are born for! After a short explanation of the basic ridingtechniques and safety instructions, we will start our journey through the frozen forest. Thesafari will go through about 10-20 km of untouched landscape, deep in the wilderness ofLapland(lengthdependsonsnowandiceconditions).Aftertheexcitingride,wegatherinthekota(typicalLappishtepee)whereyouwillenjoycoffeeorhotjuice,andwillhearhow winter life is in theNorthernmost area of Europe,withlotsofstoriesaboutthefascinatingoriginsofhuskydogsandUlla’slifeasamusher.Pleasenotethereisnooptionforlunchinthelocation–wewillprovideyouwithsomesnacks.WelatervisittheKemiSnowcastle,which is rebuilteveryyear inadifferentstyle.Thecastle includesabarandrestaurant,a chapel,a smallhotel (check thebeautifulwedding suite)andsomeother roomsdecoratedwithstunningicesculptures.WewilllatertakeawalkneartheoldportofKemi,ahistory-richarea.Your typical dinner is served in the HaparandaStadshotell, a charme hotel built in the year 1900,andrecentlybroughtbacktotheoriginalsplendorbycareful restoration. The restaurant is renowned foritsuseoflocal,freshingredients.

Day3: snowmobileand fishermen.Afteraheartybreakfast, in themorningwewill rideonasnowmobileinthesurroundingsoftheresortwhereyoustay.Afterashortsafetybriefing,werideinaconvoyforapproximately2-3h,dependingonconditions.TheridestartsonthefrozenTornio river, continues through the untouched forest and ends in the ancientKukkolaforsenfishing village, located just across the river, about 10minutes away (on foot) from the resortwhereyouarestaying.The village is perfectly preserved and stillinhabited by the families that have lived herethroughout history. We will visit the open-airmuseum,learnhowthingswerelikeinthisareain theold times,anddiscoverhowtechnologychanged thewayof life. In theoldestwoodenhut,datingbacktothe18thcentury,youwilltryyourskillsatmakingtraditionalLappishbread,whichyoucanthentasteonthespot!Youwillalso taste the strong local coffee, made ininfusionontheopenfire.

Later on, a gourmet dinner made with local products will be served in the village’srestaurant.ReturntoKukkolankoskionasledgeforpossibleauroraobservation.Day 4: landscapes, Arctic Circle and reindeer. After breakfast, it’s time for an exciting dayexploringthebestthattheTornioRiverValleyhastooffer.WewillfirsttransfertoAavasaksa,a321-metre tall hillwhich offersmagnificent views on thewilderness of Lapland, aswell as atouchofhistory,havingbeenthefirsttouristicresortinLaplandalreadyinthe19thcentury.WethentransfertotheborderbetweenFinlandandSweden,wherewecanvisita localsouvenirworkshop.Hereyoucanpurchaseyourownmemories,choosingfromthebeautifulselectionofcarefullyhand-madeobjectsthatareondisplay.Mika, theshopowner,willbehappytogiveyousuggestions.WelatertransfertotheArcticCirclemonument, locatedinthevillageofJuoksenki.Here,thesun never sets on Midsummer day, and never rises on Midwinter day! Intheevening,you’llexperiencetheancientshamanculture,datingbackcenturies.Gatheringaround the fire, the shamanwill read themessages from the energy that springs from yourbody,whileplayingtraditionalpercussiondrums.Theexperienceisexcitingandreflexiveatthesametime–agreatwaytogetbackintouchwithyourinnerself.Wethenvisitanauthenticlocalfarm!Hereyou’llspeaktotheownersKurtandPia,andgettoknowthevariousreindeerthattheyholdwithpride. You will have the chance to meet these wonderful animals,whoseexistencehasmadelifeinLaplandpossible.Youwillbeabletofeedtheanimals,andtryaquickrideonasledge–agreat feelingofhowpeopleoncemovedaroundintheArctic!Tryridingonasledge(it’shardtostayonboard–reindeeraresofast!)and watch the animals move naturally across the snowy field. Theherder will explain you about their life, and the behaviour of theanimalsinthevariousseasons.
