Magica Preview: Party Directions + 1st page of Script The kids will arrive in costume for their part and knowing it’s a play, but that’s it. Before the party, you need to decide on your party space, and have the stage area “set-up”, have the lighting and curtain materials available, have the “Tower” and “Drawbridge” cut out of boxes, have the Witches Cauldron and the Magic Talisman on hand, the Sorceress’ staff, your Dungeon, and your food ready. I’m sure you’ll want your video recorder or camera on hand. If you choose to include the prop making in your party, have your supplies ready. If you opt to include the make-up and hair dressing, have that ready as well. Click here to navigate to the instructions for these components so you can make your choices. Click on Return at the end to return here and continue. Your party will have 5 to 7 segments, depending if you include the optional pieces: On Arrival, hand out scripts and let the children read through them. (15-20 minutes)- you may read it to them if you like. The OPTIONAL “Prop creation”- making Princess hats, witches wands, and creating a backdrop. (1/2 hour to 45 minutes for Prop making) The children then work together on the needed “dialogue” which is highlighted in each child’s script packet. Provide pencils (with erasers). (15-20 minutes) Rehearsal- go through it probably twice so they know what to do and say. (45 minutes) OPTIONAL: Make-up, and hair dressing (20 minutes) Performance (15 minutes) Cake and Ice Cream (20 minutes) Everything above included, your total time would be just shy of 2 hours on the short end, with no prop making or makeup/hair, and 3 hours, 15 minutes on the long end. Knock off 40 minutes for the time the “audience” should arrive. If you haven’t already, click here to go to the instructions for the various components so you can choose what to include. With these decisions made, you’re ready to print your invitations- the “Invitation” file. Go To the 1 st page of the Script

1st page of Script There are 11 scripts included in the party package- one for each player and one for you, the Narrator (the intro at the beginning) and for you to whisper out line cues, if needed. Each has that players’ part highlighted, and is 14 pages long. You’ll also note the empty spaces under DIALOGUE: this is for the kids to write in what they want to say- and it’s large because kids this age tend to write big. Go to the next page for the Cover and p1 of the Script.

Script for

Princess Katie

You are the Fairytale Players, and tonight you will be presenting

“Saving Magica”

You’ve each been given a script. Read through it- your part is highlighted. You will see sections labeled “DIALOGUE”- based on the action(s) described, write your dialogue. Do this with the other actors involved in that section of Dialogue. KEEP IT SIMPLE so you can remember your lines and actions. Go through the whole script and pencil in all your lines for each DIALOGUE section.

Then, it’s time for rehearsal.

HAVE FUN!!!!

Princess Annie Princess Katie

and Princess Elizabeth with the help of the Good Queen’s Fairy Godmother, have always been able to stay in power and rule Magica fairly and justly. But this year, they are very worried about what will happen. Act 1 Scene 1

The Good Queen and her Princesses are sitting around, talking and worrying. DIALOGUE: While they talk, the witches SNEAK in and steal Princess Annie One of the witches puts a spell on the Princess and she becomes a zombie- she does whatever they tell her and she can’t fight back. Magica Party DIRECTORY

These are the EXACT directions included in the party package itself. All files marked in grey are not included here but are in the actual party

package.

Everything you need for you party is here. Get a cup of coffee and it will take you about 1½ hours to print out your invitations and the scripts for the kids. Once you’ve got your invitation responses, it’s time to assign parts to the kids- use your best judgment of their personalities in assigning the parts relative to the amount of “acting” each part requires. The “Heroine” of the play is Princess Elizabeth (you can change these names), so you’ll probably want that part to go to the Birthday girl. Princess Annie is perfect for a little sister (minimum 6 yrs. old) if you’ve got one, or it can be one of the older guests. She will spend a good portion of the party in Jail, where she can pretend to try to escape her bonds and otherwise ham it up a bit. Read through the script to help you decide on assigning the other parts. If you come up short a kid or two- invite others to get to the 10. If you can’t get the 10, eliminate 1 witch and then 1 Princess- the kids can work around this even though they are included in the script. Then, mail out the “Costume Postcards” advising each child to come in costume appropriate to their assigned part. You’ll print the script, one for each child plus one for you, the Director”, and the name tags so the kids can remember who is who as they get started. You even get to choose and edit in the names of the 3 Princesses! A “Playbook” party favor is included for your use in the Premium Package. It follows on the theme of the party, is a snap to make, and the best part is it encourages creativity and literacy. Way better than a baggie full of candy. The party schedule goes as follows: When they arrive, the kids first read through their scripts. If you’re having them do props, this is the time- encourage them to be thinking about their parts and their lines as they work. When the props are complete, have them sit and create/write-in their dialogue- they can tell what to say from the script, they just decide how they want to say it. Encourage them to work with the other “actors” in the scenes where they have dialogue when creating it. When the lines are complete, you’ll take them through 2 or 3 rehearsals, depending how the time is going vis a vis the planned parent arrival for the performance. If you’ve chosen to include the make-up and hair, do it after their rehearsals. When the parents have arrived- draft a few for lighting, curtain and camera duty. Then, it’s SHOW TIME!! Followed by cake and ice cream for everyone. Although the kids basically do all the work for this party themselves, there is some set-up and pre-planning required on your part. Read the Party Directions to get a handle on this. The next page is a directory of the files you’ll be using, and the printing format info.
