Magic moments in
Year 3
Our first trip to Hampstead
Heath in October was to learn
about rocks and soils – the Heath
has an abundance of different
soils: London Clay, Bagshot Sands
and Claygate Beds to name a few.
We were able to investigate a few
of the soil types ourselves.
In December we visited The
Natural History Museum to
consolidate our work on dinosaurs.
We toured the various galleries
and completed a ‘dino scene
investigation’ workshop where we
acted as Archaeologists to
uncover fossils!

Year 3
International week was held in
January. It was a celebration of
African drumming and acting,
cultural stories we learnt and
shared with our friends and
culminated with an afternoon of
sampling delicious food from
around the world.
In December we had our annual
French breakfast!
The children had to order their
items in French from Madame
Willoughby.
The children enjoyed croissants,
pain au chocolate and madeleines.

Year 3
February brought us a wonderful
Chinese New Year workshop.
The children learnt how to perform
traditional Chinese dances with fans
and umbrellas. They finished with a
class Dragon dance!
Our trip to the British Museum in
January consolidated our work on the
Egyptians.
We visited the Egyptian galleries and
looked at life in ancient Egypt. We
learnt about the embalming process
and were able to view some real
artefacts that had been put in tombs.
Also on display was ‘Ginger’ a real
mummified body that had been buried
in a shallow grave.

Some other activities we’ve done so
far this year:
To get into the spirit of things we held
an Egyptian Day in the class in April!
Everyone looked fabulous! We had
Pharaohs’, Queens and even Howard
Carter (Mrs Afford!).
The children prepared food to
authentic Egyptian recipes and it was
delicious.
