magic including The Merlin award (the equivalent to the Oscar in magic), The Golden Lion Award, and many more. But the big-gest award he has received is the FISM award (the equivalent to the Olympics in magic). Rocco is the only American to have won twice at FISM. His most recent FISM win was first place in originality. Rocco was lecturing in Charlottesville while I was still in high school and it was my first lecture on magic I ever attended. I was in awe to say the least. He performed and taught card tricks, coin tricks, silk tricks, newspaper tricks, and much more and he did it all as if it was just off the cuff. I did not realize that my first lecture way back then would change my life the way it has. Rocco is still today one of my absolute favorites in magic. He truly is a master magician in every aspect. Natalie & I were able to hang out with him recently at the MAES convention and after he realized how serious I am about magic he invited us up to his home for 3 days to study with him and work on some new routines. Check him out on youtube.com, just search Rocco Silano to see his award winning act and more. More on this story later in this months issue

Magic News / Siegfried & Roy In Hall of Fame

Celebrate National Magic week!

Siegfried & Roy were inducted into Las Vegas’ Hall of Fame located in the University of Nevada this month. This was according to the Las Vegas Re-view-Journal. Choosing Siegfried and Roy was a no-brainer, says Jeff Koep, dean of the college of fine arts.

“They helped put the modern Vegas on the map,” Koep says. “They’re excellent illusionists and there are very few people in the world who don’t know who they are.”

Congratulations guys, it’s about time!

83rd Anniversary of Houdini’s Passing

Entertainment News/ Tiger escapes, oops!

Party Magic News / Party Magic is open & available 365 days

On October 31st 1926 the world lost a magician and entertainment superstar when Harry Houdini passed. This year will mark 83 years since his passing, and still today Houdini is a household name. Even in death he was able to get publicity with the way he died and with what happened to his magic. Some people think he died from a ruptured appendix, some think he was poisoned, but no one knows for sure since a autopsy was never done. His wishes with his collection of magic were for everything to go to his brother Theo and then burned after he was done using them to protect the secrets, but the majority ended up in a museum which burned to the ground many years later. More on Houdini in next month’s issue...

Back in July 2009 a tiger was found in a backyard in a Las Vegas neighborhood. The owners eventu-ally cornered it and took it back to its cage. The owner's are part of a magic show that tour the world and they say the escape was one big accident. At more than 400 pounds, Picasso the white tiger, is a part of the magic show for the Fercos Brother's Untamed Illusions. "He's probably the best tiger in the world," said Tony Fercos. "I am really concerned about all the kids in the neighborhood." said a neighbor. But Fercos says it was all just an accident. He says he was walking the tiger as part it's recovery from a recent surgery. "He saw the rabbit jumping and he started to run after the rabbit. I fell and I lost the leash," he said. Fercos says he will have to continue walking Picasso regularly as part of the tiger's recovery, but he is assuring neighbors it will only happen behind the gates of his home.

With a tiger that big, who’s walking who…..

Did you know that all of our entertainers are available 365 days a year? Natalie and I are used to working most holidays. It is a given that on Labor day, Memorial day, 4th of July, Easter, Presidents Day, and New Years Eve we will be booked. This year we have also booked shows for Thanksgiving day, Christmas Eve and multiple shows on Halloween. So please remember the next time you have a party or event call Party Magic “We want your next event to be Magical” whether it is a holiday or not.

Our trip with Rocco started off with Natalie & I dr iving 6 hours to Wayne, New Jersey. We checked into our hotel and called Rocco and let him know we were in town. Rocco told us the first lesson would take place at his studio. When we met him there we were surprised by how big this place was. The studio was divided into offices, a studio room that Rocco uses to film his rehearsals, a tech room which had more equipment in it than I have seen in public television stations, a manufacturing room where the d-lights are made, and a sales office.

I knew I was taking lessons and studying with Rocco but Natalie & I were both surprised when he offered to teach Natalie as well. He gave us several practice routines to work on back at our hotel and several props to work with. He kept reiter-ating the importance of timing and misdirection over and over & gave us practice routines that focused on just that. Af-ter class we went over to his home and he let us borrow some videos to study including a video of him performing on a tv show in China. His home was amazing and he said he decorated it himself. It was very cool; it looked like a resort straight out of Italy.

On day two we showed up at his studio and we showed him what we worked on. He was very pleased that we did so well, but I think he was most impressed with Natalie because he thought she was just the assistant and she was doing the tricks as well, or better than I was. I think that really caught him off guard. He then showed us more routines and went over more advance sleight of hand moves and after hours of practice at the studio we went back to the hotel to continue prac-ticing. Natalie had a bit of trouble with a routine and would not go to bed until she got it right; I had to beg her to go to bed at 2:00 am. The next day we performed our routines for Rocco and we both did great.

On day three we went over everything we learned so far and we started to work with cards. Rocco taught Natalie some really nice card fanning moves and I worked on a card production. Needless to say, Natalie did great and I ended up with my arm taped up and a pen attached to my wrist to keep it from twisting in a weird way while I produced cards.

After class Rocco took us out to a local restaurant and we had a really great meal. We got to talk about his travels all over the world and a lot more. At the end of the meal he invited us up again to visit next year, which we plan on doing.

Thanks Rocco, we will make you proud!

Supplies you will need: A deck of cards The Effect: You show 4 jokers and you place each one in a different location in the deck saying the jokers were in the bank on different floors. When the cops came looking they got away because they were also part time magicians; they disappeared and reappeared on the roof and the got away in a heli-copter. Secret: As you’re showing the four jokers face up you secretly have 4 indifferent cards underneath them. As you place the jokers back on top of the pack the indifferent cards are now the top 4 cards that end up going into different places in the pack. To end the trick, just turn over the top 4 cards.

Jim Pace's "The Web" will out-impact any other effect you own.

For those that want to go for the jugular and take no prisoners, the Web gets a more visceral reaction than any card effect ever created! In fact, there are some people you simply should not do this effect for because

it starts out so innocently, yet ends with such a startling reaction!

The effect: this makes 'em jump up and scream! Four blank cards are counted onto the spectator's palm up hand. Then pictures of spider webs appear and disappear from the faces of the cards. To conclude, the spec-tator is asked to wave his hands over the cards. As he does, he discovers a large, realistic spider on the back of his hand. The spider is undetect-able, and you are way ahead! At the right time, in the right place, this

receives an unprecedented response! Only $13.00
