All of us are aware that water shortage is one of the severe problems. There is an increasing demand for water due to the global warming effect and the need to provide food to the increasing world population. To achieve better results with less environmental resources the use of precision agriculture is being deployed in all agricultures branches. Mesh network systems is a part of it. Today, mesh network systems derive power from batteries that r hazard materials and has to be replaced quite often

What is Mesh Networking for Agriculture?

Mesh network is a configuration of units that are spread in the field with relatively small distances between them. Each unit includes sensors to detect several parameters a transceiver which sends and receives the data from the sensors and to the central base once in a while. And a battery. The whole system needs to be sealed against humidity animals and other possible damages. So the replacement of a battery is not always possible or is very expensive.

Alternative energy is one of the advanced solutions, like solar power, RF, vibration or thermal energy. Solar energy is known to provide much higher power compared to other alternative energy sources . But , when addressing solar power, the solution requires the use of a solar panel in addition to several power management components Currently, such components are large, introduce reliability risks, and consume a large amount of power in order to operate.
