Audience and conventions

Page 2: Magazines

• The target audience changes for many magazines. A magazine, has to change its appearance, font, text everything to appeal to one audience, whether that be an age audience or a type of fan of something such as different types of music. From pop magazines to rock magazines the whole audience and the way the magazine appeals to that audience changes the whole convention and everything that connects to create a magazine.

• If you appeal to your target audience your going to sell plenty more magazines to that ages range instead of trying to please all in one magazine.

Pop magazine

• Smash hits has been a major selling magazine for many years, it has appealed to younger years,

My magazine compares with this style of magazine because of many things, such as font and choice of colour schemes.

The audience which is made obviously clear from the magazine, Is for girls. We can also tell this from the colours used. And the choice of artist on the front

On the front is a pop icon, a strong female who people recognize.

At the side is a choice on “man candy” to appeal to teenage girls.

The usual conventions I have mentioned before are changed, the bar code rests at the bottom and the information from the front cover in the middle.

Rock magazine

• This magazine is set out completely different from the usual magazine set. There are 3 characters involved in the main picture and the information is laid from the side then going into the middle. The information that would usually rest at the bottom is at the top.

• The colour choice and look generally appeals more masculine.

“indie” magazine• Other than any other magazine

I have followed this convention more,

• Title at the top hand corner• Information down the left

hand side• Bold masculine fonts• Information lying at the

bottom• And a main photo of the main

featured band or artist.• They have kept with the

colour scheme also. NME magazine is generally hard to put a gender audience to it, it appeals more masculine but is proved wrong by its audience numbers.
