What bands are you currently listening to?

• A very broad question, with so many different types of music out there, this was probably going to be the most difficult question to analyse due to the variety of answers.

• The range went from old school classics like Bon Jovi, Motorhead, Metallica, and Rolling Stones to the modern day titans such as Lady Gaga and The Killers.

• The main genre’s of music featured were Rock and Pop/R&B, but Metal was revised a couple of times in people’s answers.

What music websites do you regularly visit?

• The most common websites used in the survey that I produced were both YouTube and iTunes. Very few mentioned the likes of NME or an actual group such as SlipKnot or otherwise.

From the results on this chart, you can clearly see that nobody has answered the question when it comes to spending between £7.00-£10.00+ on music magazine’s per month.A small percentage claimed that they spend between £3.50 and £7.00 per month on music magazines where the rest (the rather large looking pac-man) at the bottom symbolises that the majority spend less than £3.50 or nothing at all on music magazines per month.

• In this question, more people admitted to prefer going to smaller local gigs i.e. Waterfront than large music festivals.

• Some did claim to see specific artists such as Lil’ Wayne and music festivals such as places like Reading and Nottingham.

How much you spend on physical or download music per month?

Series1

As we can see from this column chart (in 3-D!), the highest column is the Between £0.00 and £5.00 category. Which states that people are either spending as little as £5.00 a month on downloadable music or nothing at all.

Very little people have answered in the other categories but it is interesting that more people are willing to spend £20.00+ a month on music per month that those who spend £10.00-£20.00.

I Don't Watch MusicVideos

As you can see from this wonderful doh/doughnut chart, more people are inclined to watch music videos on both TV and Internet, favouring both. A couple of people did mention that they don’t watch music videos – this could be because of working commitments or just not being interested.

What music television shows/channels do you watch?

• Throughout the survey people have admitted to have watched music videos etc. But where?

• Most people confirmed to watch the likes of MTV and VH1 as well as other channels such as The Box!

What do you look for in a music magazine?

• More people said that the main thing they look for in a music magazine is the freebies they offer! (Borat agrees).

• Others did agree that star interviews and the latest information on the hottest new music was more appealing however.

• Although some did say they didn’t buy magazines.

Page 11: Magazine Survey Analysis

My Thoughts!

• I was surprised to see how many people that took this survey did not buy music magazines at all. Some don’t even spend money on music – they are more likely to rather file share and illegally download their music rather than buy a physical copy of the song such as a CD etc.

• Those that do buy music magazines are more than likely to purchase the magazine if it comes with a free CD or any other freebie offer.

My Music Magazine Theory

• After taking this survey I now realise how in-depth I am going to have to go in terms of research etc. when it comes to creating a successful music magazine.

• People are attracted to two particular things – free music and free gifts. So maybe my magazine would feature a free CD and maybe some internet links inside (licensed and paid for by the magazine) which would allow you to go online and download some of the latest music. Whether it be singles or a full album. If not free then maybe for a small and acceptable fee.
