What sort of magazines do they publish?

Bauer publishes a wide variety of magazines ranging from sports based magazines such as “Golf Illustrated” to hobbies such as “Bird Watching” and music magazines such as “Kerrang!”.

Do they publish in any other types of media?

As well as publishing in magazines, Bauer also publish in other types of media such as the radio station, “Radioaire” and television stations such as “Kerrang!” and “Q”.

Why choose Bauer?

As Bauer publishes in many different types of media, publishing my magazine with Bauer would be a good idea as they would be able to advertise my magazine in other magazines that they currently publish as well as on the different television channels that they own. This would result in a greater public awareness of my magazine which would result in more magazines being bought.

What sort of magazines do they publish?

Much like Bauer, IPC Media publishes a wide variety of magazines. Due to the topics that the magazines cover, it can be assumed that the magazines are aimed at a more upper class audience. Examples of this would include, equestrian magazines such as “Horse and Hound” and women's weeklies such as “Woman’s Own”

Do they publish in any other types of media?

As well as publishing in a variety of magazines, IPC Media also publish on various websites. An example of this would be NME. IPC Media publish both the NME magazine as well as the NME website.

Why choose IPC Media?

Much like Bauer, IPC Media publishes in other types of media than magazines. This means that they will be able to increase public awareness of my magazine. IPC Media is also a Time Warner Company which means that it is likely they have quite a lot of money which could be used for possible app development for my magazine.

What sort of magazines do they publish?

Future PLC publish a wide variety of magazines including many specialist magazines such as “Guitarist”, “Linux Format”, “Official Xbox Magazine” and “PC Gamer”. Many of their magazines could be seen as targeting the male gender as most of the topics covered are stereotypically associated with men more than women.

Do they publish in any other types of media?

Future PLC publish a variety of websites as well as many different types of magazines. Examples of this would be “Cycling Plus” magazine and the website “cyclingnews.com”

Why choose Bauer?

Much like the other two publishers, Future PLC publishes in many different types of media. This would be of a large benefit to my magazine as through advertising, the public awareness of my magazine would largely increase. Also, as Future PLC publishes magazines that cover a wide range of topics, it is likely that I would be able to reach a broader audience with the advertisement of my magazine.

Total Readers – Kerrang!

• The red line represents the readership of Kerrang!• The blue line represents the amount of magazines in circulation.• In three of the months, the amount of magazines that were in circulation exceeded

the Kerrang! Readership.• In five of the months, the readership of the magazine was larger than the amount of

magazines in circulation.

Gender Statistics – Kerrang!

• The gender statistics show that Kerrang! has a fairly equal gender ratio of 45.3% for females and 54.7% for men.

• Whilst Kerrang! features rock music mainly which is generally a stereotypically male genre, they also include the sub genres of it such as emo and thrash etc. which could explain why Kerrang! has such an even gender split as they cover all aspects of rock.

Page 7: Magazine Publisher Analysis

Age Range – Kerrang!

• The largest age range that reads Kerrang! is ages 15-24 with 56.1% of the readership. Kerrang! Also has a median age of 19 years old.

• This table shows that the likelihood that someone will read Kerrang! decreases as their age increases.

Total Readers - NME

• The red line represents the readership of NME.• The blue line represents the amount of magazines in circulation.• In most of the months, the readership of NME exceeded the amount of magazines in

circulation..• In only one month, the amount of magazines in circulation exceeded the readership of

the magazine.

Page 9: Magazine Publisher Analysis

Gender Statistics - NME

• The gender statistics show that NME readers are largely of the male gender with a ratio of 74% males to 26% females.

• This is likely due to the rock genre that is covered in NME as it is typically seen as a male genre.

Page 10: Magazine Publisher Analysis

Age Range - NME

• The median age of NME readers is shown to be 23 years old. This is likely to be connected with the fact that 42% of the readers of NME are students as that is the likely age of a student in university etc.

Page 11: Magazine Publisher Analysis

Total Readers - Q

• The red line represents the readership of Q.• The blue line represents the amount of magazines in circulation.• In many of the months, the readership of Q exceeds the amount of magazines in

circulation. This could be due to customers sharing the magazine that they purchased with other people, resulting in this trend.

• In only two sections of the graph, the amount of magazines in circulation exceeded the amount of readership.

Page 12: Magazine Publisher Analysis

Gender Statistics- Q

• Much like NME, Q has a large split between the gender of their readers with 68.3% of the readers being male and only 31.7% of the readers gender being female.

• This could be due to the fact that Q is generally seen as featuring bands that are mostly associated with rock and roll. As rock and roll is stereotypically more associated with masculinity, more men may be likely to purchase the magazine than women.

Page 13: Magazine Publisher Analysis

Age Range - Q

• The age range of the readers of Q is shown to be between 15-24 and 25-34.• This also shows that as the readers age increases, the probability that they will read

Q will decrease. This could be due to the genres of music that are covered such as rock and roll which tends to be targeted at a younger audience.
