TITLE

• ‘Folk Punk’ • The magazine needs will have a

sharp focus, in order to have a sharp focus it will be titled after the genre so then people know exactly what to expect.

Page 3: Magazine planning 1

FREQUENCY OF PUBLISHING

• Once a month, based on the fact that 28% of people were willing to buy a music magazine which is considerable amount percentage and so a realistic frequency. Too frequently wasn’t desirable.

Page 4: Magazine planning 1

COVER PRICE

• The results show that the magazine could be flexible on price, with many people willing to pay over £2. However, the magazine will be sold at £2.50 because a 30% majority were only willing to pay up to £2 and so the magazine could increase in price by 50p to try and push the customer a little bit, but not too much where they will find it too expensive. The price could possibly rise up over £2 because of the fact that so many people would have paid over it. If the magazine was popular then that is when the price would rise.

GENRE

• Folk Punk, based on the fact that it is a niche market and is on the rise at the moment with such bands as Mumford and Sons and the Dropkick Murphy’s. I also have someone who I can interview who played in a band that played this genre. Moreover, there is personal knowledge in the folk and punk genres.

EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL IMAGES, ARTICLES, FEATURES, REGULARS

• Every month, there will be a features section in the middle dedicating a few pages to the main band featured in this month’s edition. The feature band will have to be a more well-known band to the genre, because the feature is what is going to attract people to the magazine and what the reader is going to want to know about. There will be few regulars in the magazine as well.

EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL IMAGES, ARTICLES, FEATURES, REGULARS

• For example, there will be a music advice section which will give the reader top tips about how to succeed in the industry. Another, is that there will be a day in the life section, where a band member or a solo artist will do a diary of what they do on a certain day and this person will change every month, depending on who we have. There will also have an editor’s section where he will discuss a different musical topic every month. The interviews in the articles will be written in a story form, where the story tells the interview within it. That way the audience can have a more sophisticated read.

EXAMPLE OF A COPYIn January 1987 The Whisky Priests appeared on one of the very last editions of the now legendary music programme 'The Tube'. Later that year their debut single 'The Colliery' was released. The band's first serious line-up recorded two 12" EP's in 1988, independently released on Gary & Glenn's own newly-formed Whippet Records label, serving a hard-touring apprenticeship which took them all over the UK. This was the foundation for the bands future success."They deserve to be heard by millions." B-Side, USA.The highly rated band created a strong fan base across Europe, who would follow them around for a 19 year career. The Whisky Priests have earned their reputation on their ability to write lyrics for all to relate to, and with their ability to produce a fantastic live show, their legacy still lives on today."Live the band is in great form: energetic, full of atmosphere and inspired." Oor Pop Encyclopedia, the Netherlands.Rumours are that The Whisky Priests could reform for one final tour but only time will tell.

COSTUMES IN THE MAGAZINE

The actors will all be dressed in their casual every day clothes, as the magazine aims to appeal to the every day average person and so the characters will reflect a normal lifestyle that they lead outside of the music world.

Page 18: Magazine planning 1

PROPS IN THE MAGAZINE

The props in the magazine will reflect the target audience, so for example, there will be images of iconic British things and of outdoor things. As well as these will be things that will subconsciously attract my target audience to the magazine.Other props will be musical instruments so for example Glenn will have his accordion because the magazine will also want to be heavily musical related because this is what my magazine is and so it has to reflect that through the props and the imagery.

LOCATIONS IN THE MAGAZINE

For the front cover picture there will be a picture of Glenn Miller in a musical environment, perhaps with instruments around him as if he is playing at that very moment. So a musical room might be an option. For the other actors in the contents page, they will be in a location that will fit their everyday lifestyle. So, someone might be sat on a bench in a park and another in a library-somewhere which is a natural place for someone to be.For the double page spread, the main picture will also be in a natural location because it matches the clean and natural feel of the magazine.

Page 20: Magazine planning 1

SETS IN THE MAGAZINE

The magazine will not have any sets in the magazine because if we create a set, it will go against the natural feel which the magazine portrays. Moreover, it is likely it is possible for it all to be shot in location and the only way it wouldn’t be shot on location is if a location is not available.

LIGHTING IN THE MAGAZINE

I want my lighting to be natural lighting. Although, I want the pictures to be more dark than light because a light picture would contrast too much with the dark colours of my magazine.

MISSION STATEMENT

The lighting will be natural lighting. Although, the pictures will be more dark than light, because a light picture would contrast too much with the dark colours of the magazine.
