French and Indian War Land Bounty Certificates'(continued from Vol. 38, No.2)

Altlwugh George Washingron accumulated a number of land patents based on land

warrants for French and Indian War service, both for his service and because he purchased

warrants from other participants, no bounty warrant information is found in his name in

these files. Nor are there any bounty warrants listed in his name in the abstracts of the

Kentucky warrants. I However, he is referenced as the commander of the regiment in a

number of descriptions of service both in the Virginia bounty warrants abstracted here and

in the abstracts of the Kentucky warrantS. Altlwugh no reference to Washingron receiving

land is found in these records, the Executive Journals of the Council record a number of

petitions by Washingwn regarding land which he felt was promised by Governor Dinwiddie

in his proclamation of 19 February 1754.2 These petitions list the names of some of the

officers and soldiers of the First Virginia Regiment and slwu/d be consulted by anyone

searching for individuals wlw served in the French and Indian War.
