EDITORIAL PROFILES

PAUL MERRILL EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Paul Merrill is Australia’s Editor of the Year, taking out the top award at the 2016 Australian Magazine Awards for leading Take 5 to one of its best years yet. He’s been editor of UK magazine Chat and founded ZOO in Britain, then launched ZOO here. Since then he has edited Ralph, FHM, NW and New Woman before joining Take5 as Editor-in-Chief in 2013.Paul has led the magazine to great success, achieving the highest market share growth of any weekly magazine and drastically expanding the brand’s output. He has given Take5 a total revamp, making it brighter, bolder and more interactive, with every section given a fresh new look. Paul has also spearheaded a range of hugely-successful community initiatives, from Take 5’s award-winning Brave Kids awards to anti-domestic violence campaigns.

KATE KIRSTEN DEPUTY EDITOR

Kate Kirsten is proud to have been Take5’s Deputy Editor for the past 13 years and has worked in real-life journalism for much of her 24-year career. She got her break as a cadet reporter at The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph newspapers in Sydney. Since then, her experience has ranged from national media at The Australian newspaper to local papers, plus working online and TV at news.com.au and Channel 10, then to magazines, first at Pacific Magazines as Senior Editor of That’s Life, then joining Bauer in 2005. As Deputy Editor, Kate uses her unique insight into what drives everyday Australians to bring campaigns and competitions to life, making them interactive and engaging and delivering strong results for the brand and its clients.

JANINE DONOVAN FASHION & BEAUTY EDITOR

Janine Donovan has been a fashion expert on some of Australia’s highest-selling magazines for more than 20 years. As Take5’s Fashion and Beauty Editor, she’s the trusted expert readers turn to for advice on everything from looking great for less to taking years off their appearance with the right haircare, skincare and make-up. In Take5’s uniquely interactive style, readers nominate and then vote for the new face of the magazine. TAKE5 BAKE AND DECORATE COMPETITION
